I was a kid in the early '70s and flew Zennikkuu Fokker F27s and Toa Domestic Airlines NAMC YS-11s with those RR Darts, ah memories 😊👍

There a few airplanes with these Dart engines, but this one looks like a YS-11. Even has a large rear cargo door. But the YS came with a 16.5 ft prop. Huge. Nice video.

While the RR Dart engines make their distinctive jet whine, the props themselves make a sound of their own. In taxiing, the props make your basic "box fan" sound. In takeoff and inflight, the props buzz like the wings of a bumblebee.

Seen a Dash 8 Q 200 take off, the box fan noise was fantastic, the engine was PW 120 made in Canada

NAMC YS-11 Used Rolls Royce Dart 542-10K with 2100 hp the model is first civil airplane later Second World War designed by Hiro Horisoki ( Mitsubishi A6M Zero, Mitsubishi J2M3 and others models) the NAMC YS-11 is produced for the Japan Air Force and others customers (1962-1974) manufactured 182 airplanes

@@whitewing681 grew up in 80's while there were many Viscounts and F27s around, and this RR Dart's whistling sound is my most favourite... Just wonder why they couldn't make the RR Spey/Tay sound as good as this one.... LOL

they are both compressors so they will sound the same. Although if the Mad Max film is correct, he is using a roots-type blower, which is quite different, and much of the noise will come from the gears and the blower lobes. There will be a whistling noise of the air sucking through the pipes. What should sound most similar to a turbine engine like this or a jet is a turbocharger, because those are functionally almost identical. But yes, anything that involves fast rotating parts, air being moved and mechanical noise will make somewhat similar sounds.

やっぱりYSはどの角度から見ても格好いいしエンジンの音も良い👍マニアの間ではダートサウンドって言うんですよ。イギリスの有名なメーカーロールスロイス社のエンジンでダート10Kと言うエンジンです。今はもうほとんど退役してしまっているため飛ぶことさえないし生でダートサウンドも聴くことは出来ません。でも僕は2回も乗ることが出来ましたよ。最後に乗ったのは日本エアーコミューターのYSでした。
