Five or six years ago, I read this chapter and I felt God put on my heart to plug my name in (“by faith, Joe…”) and it was so clear to me what faith would help me thru and what the outcome would be. Thus far, the outcome has yet to pass. All I can say is that I’m the only one who seems to understand this faith I have. And to doubt God on this one would be to doubt the clearest I’ve ever heard him speak to my heart. I journaled all of it. If this wasn’t him, then I’m afraid I have no choice but to lose my faith altogether, as his Word says he knows my thoughts and has never swayed my striving towards this , nor sent someone into my life as a divine pivot or mentor to that end.

Unpopular but accurate pondering here: Pastor Tim points out that no person mentioned in this chapter of Hebrews used faith and didn’t come out successfully on the other side. Well, yes, IN THIS LIST . The reality is that there were likely thousands, if not millions over this wide expanse of time who used faith and died anyway. Some horribly so, considering the violence that persists in the OT. It’s not a sexy point, but it’s a fact: faith does not work in every situation as it cannot undo God’s will (save for one or two occurrences in the Bible). Does acknowledging this make me less of a Christian? No. I still have faith, albeit I admit it’s dwindling some.
Actually, I’m going to amend this response to highlight verse 13 in Hebrews 11. “…These all died in faith, although they had not received the things that were promised. But they saw them from a distance, greeted them, and confessed that they were foreigners and temporary residents on the earth.” Hebrews 11:13 CSB
