None of us is actively looking for more to do, but I want to talk to you about breakfast on this most celebratory of morning. What you need is a breakfast you can get ready, for the most part, before you go to bed on Christmas Eve, and that makes you greet the day - and your guests - the next morning with a genuine smile on your face.
I’m inordinately fond of a strata (the title referring to the layers), which is really a cheesy, eggy bake with bread at the heart of it. There’s something so deliciously festive about it: the dark green of the spinach, the red of the jarred roasted peppers, the milky white of the mozzarella.

Yes! She's my favorite. So many things she's made over the years are familiar, just different. I love trying her version. She really sold me on her pigs in a blanket! The cheesy scone dough instead of biscuits really made them shine.

I made this today and it was wonderful! It was really easy to assemble the night before! I had a bit of leftover bok choy so I used that in place of spinach. I also threw in some chopped up rosemary and just a tiny bit of diced, cooked pancetta.
This will become a Christmas Day tradition for me. As my parents and I were opening presents, we could smell the aroma of it cooking in the oven and it was amazing.
The end result was delicious! I did give it a few seconds under the broiler to give it a bit more colour at the end. But what a wonderful breakfast on Christmas Day! Thank you.

I have smoked salmon with horseradish mixed into a tub of soured cream! And Jumbo prawns with more soured cream, mixed into real mayonnaise and horseradish!😋👌

What if you put some of those Cosmo sausages into the strata? Like there would be any left over.
I just saw a bio of Juliette Greco, so my Mom was not the only one shaping her look from French singers. My mom saw DALIDA go blonde and got hers done the same shade. Greco’s gift with an eye pencil is noteworthy. Nigella’s mom got the same fringe (bangs) and gave it to both her daughters.

Problem with frozen spinch is that it's never stemmed. I hate a mouthful of spinach stems. That's I use fresh, stem it, and wilt it myself.

Christmas breakfast starts with 2 cups of tea & some toast. It's important not to fill up too early and leave room for Christmas lunch. Pastries, smoked salmon etc is for the days that follow
Ah! This is the thing Sarah Jessica Parker makes in The Family Stone (very strange christmas film with unlikable people, a stacked cast but for some reason since I first saw it a few years ago I have to watch it every christmas) but after nigella I really want to make it now! Yum!
