Survivor Mike recently found a goat path in Forsaken Airfield that lets you up onto the shelf right next to the entrance from Transfer Pass, basically cutting the trip to the hangar in half, and completely avoiding any wolf spawns. He shows it starting at the 59:30 mark of the 13th episode in his recent "Calm Playthrough" series. I've tested it myself about a dozen times, and I didn't get a single sprain, it's really easy.
It's not really a Survivor mike thing - it's been a really popular Goat for awhile. It's good for it to get more exposure though since it's really handy
@@christopherjohnston6343 He used a different path from the other one I've seen. The goat I've seen before is more difficult and you're much more likely to get a sprain or fall too far if you fail it. If you actually go to his video and watch, you'll see.
Honestly he didnt "found" it, it was long time before on the "steam"-maps before he did it. some of you forget that streamers try to "tension" the moments while they streaming.
@@teddiecrash8216 The "steam" maps show a different "goat" path than the one that he "found". I didn't forget "anything", you just aren't very "observant".
He may have found that one, but I've seen similar routes long ago and that's definitely not the best way up. There's a much simpler route just using the log right where you normally come down when going the other way. Just hop to the ledge and you're up.
My favorite goat and most used one is in FM. Climbing from the blind up to Marsh Ridge and over into MT is always a winner, even after you put up the rope.
My first Goat was actually the Broken Railroad landslide during Wintermute episode 2. I happened on the right steps to get onto the landslide when I first approached it and just assumed that was the intended way to go. I didn't actually realize there was a lower area to go until I think a sidequest or mapping led me down there later. Learned the summit goat from Zak's video on the gold mine to summit loop and will never go back. Though I have nearly died from attempting it on Stalker because I was waaaaaayyyyy too heavy and gotten stuck in a blizzard. With the cougar addition, another great goat for me now is leaving the Gold mine. Instead of taking the final rope climb down, you can goat along the cliff and if you manage to stay high enough you can get on some flat snowy ledges and even get to a big rock with multiple ledges around it that has good view left and right from the rope climb to Stone shelf cave (i.e. the entire cougar patrol area). This is a great spot to snipe the cougar and if you fall, you can goat up the big rock in the middle of that area. Used to be a good goat to snipe the stone guardian moose pre-wildlife refresh. Need to take bandages because I've yet to do it without some sprained wrists.
I do think goating was intended just because of the weight issue. The trade off is the fact you can/will snap your glass ankles and wrists. It is a matter of weighing the trade off of injury versus dropping valuable supplies to go down a rope
You know little, let me fix that for you. There is a roll on a sprain chance in a fixed period of time once the sprain risk symbol appears (the red symbol symbolizing a slope). If you master usage of resting spots on your goat trails, you will get either none or very little of sprains. Crampons lower the roll chance for a sprain, being burdened with loot ups it. The more you know.
To avoid the sprains you can use the 10 sec method and try find the flat spot every 10 sec. In the way you can easily get down from the Timber summit without any sprains.
DUDE. I was literally just there. Like, i was at the fishing hut and went to that anglers cabin cuz i couldn't get up the mountain. This video got my ass up there ASAP, with only sprains onstead of wasted time. You are awesome. Now i wont get frickin LOST. Hahaha
If you mean from Deer Clearing up that gradual ridge then across the rocks, yes, it's much better. I just recorded it for you in case you want to check it out, Dunn.
Interesting. I started Ash Canyon using the goat route, but now I prefer going Angler's to Broad falls (to avoid the rope climb from Respite). I love how there are so many different ways to survive in TLD, and everyone develops their own strategies. The AC goat did save me from timberwolves on a windy day early game (no weapons)though!
Goating up to the lighthouse will be a game changer! I always get attacked by wolves when trying to get back to the lighthouse after gathering fish from beach combing. Thank you!!
The first Goat I ever did in TLD was in Episode 1 of winter mute. Spoilers but in order to get out of the Town you were in you have to climb down a rope. I went nope and goated down instead skipping like half of episode 1 due to a glitch. I never Replayed Episode 1 for 3 more years and I that is when i figured out what went wrong LOL. The funny this is I find Goating easier on Keyboard then controller but that might be because I'm so used to it now that I've mastered it. I never get the goat in Broken Rail Road right when going up. I always mess up.
@@christopherjohnston6343 I'm a speed run and I find controller to not be as precise as I want it to be. The biggest advantage to keyboard if you hit the W key once you move forward one step but if you hit the S key once you also take a step back. Do it fast enough and you can cling to the wall really well. The biggest secret to Goating is the angle. So long as the ground is on you left or right I find you can't fall that easily. You can do this with either Controller or Mouse and Keyboard very easily. Most people suggest Controller is because you can walk slower by barely pressing up on the stick. I however have a very heavy hand and as a result I find controller to be extremely difficult to use for goating and prefer the keyboard because so long as I'm holding the S key the odds of me falling are less. If I fall while still holding the S key it means I would have fallen regardless.
@@Avatarfan10000 Yeah I think Cats might have commented that she prefers controller? I've tried both and I feel like controller was slightly easier for certain movements
Tea jiggling stops your teas boiling dry. You place cups of tea around a fire to warm them up. After putting them down, you use the right mouse button to pick them up, move them a little, then put them down again. It's definitely an exploit but the idea that your tea would boil dry after sitting a few feet away from a fire is just silly and shouldn't be in the game in the first place imo! EDIT to say: I suppose the idea of placing tea near a fire to bring it back to a boil is also silly... Ah well.
I use the landslide one in BRR a lot, myself, but it does sacrifice a bit of potential loot in the valley. Yeah, I mean, sure, you won't get eaten by wolves, but it is what it is.
What do people have against jiggling teas? I mean, it's not like tea is actually going to burn or even boil away very quickly if you put it next to a fire in real life.
Fully expecting the final GOAT to be Kimiota, after the "twist" in the Jerks video :) Also 19:30 Aaaaaaah look where you're going lol. No idea how this "stare painfully up and at the wall while moving" habit got started amongst players but it's entirely unnecessary(and often actively harmful) for goating :D
Does anyone know if there is a standard, commonly-used safe goat down into Forsaken Airfield? I mean, technically the goat I did last time I was there was a safe goat because Astrid didn't die, but I was very tense the whole time. (I had not intended to goat there -- I had gone to the edge to look to see if it looked goatable, and I thought that the tiny drop down was small enough that Astrid could walk back up again. I was wrong. Maybe the ability to goat is the game's way of compensating use for the fact that Will and Astrid apparently can't pick their feet up more than 6 inches off the ground.)
Right at the entrance to FA(from transfer pass) you can goat up to the high ground(using the tree or another route) and take the Hinterland-intended shortcut that's up there but in reverse to get back to the airfield. This does involve running across one gap in the opposite of the intended direction but it's fine. I don't have a video to point you to but if you can find any of the winning runs from various community tournaments that involve going to FA at the end, they should have it. (Tournaments I know of were called "Great Bear Connoisseur" and "Breakfast in FA" I think?)
@bethanyweber3989 yeah it is possible to stuff up and fall down the gap. Try wiggling your way around the RHS as the LHS is danger. You can also skip the Shimi by using the terrain. In the LHS leading up to the gap - there's basically a ramp
Being mostly a pilgrim, I do not see goating an exploit. Mostly what you can goat is actually climbable, would it be real. When i do the ash canyon wall run i usually look where I’m going but rubbing your face on the wall works too
Broken Railroad is the first Goat I learned on my own :)
