I played quads on this! I've been looking for this video. It was November of 2001. Jeff Queen is the snare in the center and only about half the line was actually Cadets guys. There were some Crossmen guys, people from other corps (I marched Glassmen), and just some college friends. Jeff Queen pretty much led it and wrote the licks though we all pitched it. The whole thing was put together in a couple hours.
I watched this episode at the time, right after "that day" in September. Powerful drums!! What a performance!! I have been looking for this for years!! (I forgot it was a "top ten" list haha) I will be watching this over, and over!!
sam signorelli my band director is huge friends with the guy, he comes and plays for us every year at our school, our director is even a member in his band
Funny that Cadets are playing on YAMAHA *and* they have a cymbal line. (Cadets had a cymbal line for the last time in 1992, which they still marched Pearl.)
Heyitsbacon Gosh... there can’t be anything I hate more than people who have 0 sense of time/musicality. Like, how hard can it be to clap to a drumline of 20+ drummers?...
@@simplyvibinn5417 The Cadets snare line was more known for tight sticking in the traditional sense with hands close to the drum head. A main rival, the Blue Devils from Concord, CA had a high sticking style commonly called "monkey drumming." John Stone ^^^ offered the suggestion that by exaggerating the high sticking that the Cadets were making fun of the Blue Devils snare line. @sam signorelli (Blue Devils veteran soprano bugle and true expert on all things drum and bugle corps), did I get the explanation close to correct?
similar to The Raging Pepper's question, there wouldn't be a reaction, because they would all be cleaning up the mess in their pants. trust me, saw the show 7 times, needed new pants after every one.
ikarooz I think people are just annoyed because dci never gets ANY press, so when it does, people want it to really convey what the marching arts is all about, and what makes us so passionate about it, and this was a pretty watered down and rushed. But I agree, to most people, this was probably pretty dope.
Have you ever played in a TV studio? Polished hard floor, glass and steel walls, open steel beam ceilings, massively long but shallow rooms. You may as well be playing inside an underground cavern. Impossible to hear anything - because you hear everything that was ever played in the last 10 seconds. Horrific sound live.

Oh shit, thats cool

Adam I was bass 3 and from Crossmen :)

@@tkvids1377 I just thought about this again. That was a fun afternoon.
Prolly more dci fans here than Dave letterman fans
Was always kinda bummed that Dave never mentioned Al Chez -- the trumpet player in his band -- is a Cadet alum (aged out in 1982)
I met Al Chez, he's a cool dude.
sam signorelli my band director is huge friends with the guy, he comes and plays for us every year at our school, our director is even a member in his band
I know the mans a god! Helped out with the crossmen leads for the past few years. Awesome dude and totally kick ass.
Al Chez was a consultant for the brass line in the drum corps I used to march with "back in the day" He's an awesome guy!
I only wish he stayed one more year for that W.
Probably the first time any Cadets has marched with a left foot stepoff since 1984.

neilyvanneily I'd guess it's just the pit members playing cymbals like they do for parades these days.
neilyvanneily the best drills of drum corps I'd like to see the best drum corps drill
Cadets marched Yamaha for the first time that year and still use Zildjian cymbals.
wonder how the crowd wouldve reacted w/ Crown Brass in there
they wouldn't have. Kinda hard to make a facial expression when your face has been melted off.
MAKE IT BIG MORE BRASS
Can’t react if you’re dead
Deaf
The crowd would have melted.
Some people on these comments need to lighten up....... it's a talk show not FINALS NIGHT!!!!!
Trying to keep the band in time as the line walks away haha. That must have been hell.
The clapping couldn't have helped
Heyitsbacon Gosh... there can’t be anything I hate more than people who have 0 sense of time/musicality. Like, how hard can it be to clap to a drumline of 20+ drummers?...
My goodness time was coming from three different places at the end...(shivers)
3:10 clearly poking fun at the devils
Someone explain this to me please
Incon yeah I don’t get it either
Vibin there playing the devils thang

@sam signorelli (Blue Devils veteran soprano bugle and true expert on all things drum and bugle corps), did I get the explanation close to correct?
I thought to myself how old is this when he said the most honored drum corps in the world.
OOF
that's an oof
They still are technically
I wonder how the crowd would have reacted if the Blue Devils did their 40 trumpet feature from the 2017 show?
similar to The Raging Pepper's question, there wouldn't be a reaction, because they would all be cleaning up the mess in their pants. trust me, saw the show 7 times, needed new pants after every one.
Hoovie Doovie BHAHHAH also pretty sure it would be way to loud on the sound satge
Love GARFIELD CADETS , SUNRISES 1964-1968
Also been on brass staff at Crossmen since 2000 I think
TKvids 13 al chez?
"From Garfieldbergenhackensackallentownbergenfieldnewjerseyandpennsylvania"
fr8fr6dr that's a mouth full
Dave ALWAYS gave drummers
some love, just ask ringo
(aka Anton)!
Rip the cadets.
Number 9 and 2 had some riffs from 2003 so I'll put my money on that year. Maybe they made the tenors play cymbals
Gunter Heisler you see the tenors in the back, so probably pit on cymbals
It was November of 2001
Kinda doubt that. I'm sure they did not take from the future
Dawg they were crankin
Jonathan Watson Hey Jon
VerticalPlanker Yooooo
Snare feet placement and stick heights are kinda all over the place.
We had very little time to play together, parts were "written"right before taping
anybody else notice an evans sticker on top on the remo logo on one on the bottom basses as they marched out?
that tear tho...
I feel like tenors should be up front
I was thinking the same thing. It's TV. What's more visual on a drumline than the tenor line???
Somehow, they made the "Most honored drum corps" look like a ghetto high school drumline
A great line, on a cool gig and all some the commenting "experts" could do, is judge. Give it a rest.

Really hate how lame this makes drum corp look
Lennon Pike I think any exposure is good exposure in this situation. I actually don't think it was that bad.
I agree. DCI being invited on a top network show to be a part of one of the most popular skits is actually great exposure.
it's both. it's great exposure but in an incredibly lame way.
jck1794 I don't see how this is lame? The crowd liked it, it's simple yet fun.
We actually played some decent notes, especially the bassline, even though they ended up cutting our feature :)
I'm pretty sure this was 2001. Believe it or not, there's a few Crossmen in this line. Right Tim and Rudy?
2001 Champion line from the year they had the sickest Tenor solo EVER
I meant 1999
Salvador Flores yup!
Why was the center snare playing so much higher than the rest of the snare line
Apparently that was Jeff Queen. Got called in to play with them for the night I guess.
Which head were they using? Remo? Evans?
(if you say "Evans," then I know this was released in 2002)
Remo white max. 2001
Racine scouts are older though?
Will Cochran yeah , but Racine is unfortunately folded now
What year?
I think it's 2001
Thanks man!
They seemed t FIT RRRRRIGHT IN W/DAVE///////GA DUN 'dut-dut-dut'-ISH'!!!!
ALAN WHY DIDN'T U SAY ANYTHING ?
The lowest point of the cadets drumline performances
Lotta dirt
The great one we literally had about an hour to put it together, most of the drummers in this group arent even Cadets
good ol' cadet rolls.
🤣
Yeah this makes the Cadets line look bad
It does
The Cadets are finished. RIP.
Why what happened?
Dirty as fffffuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
Lol they put it together in a few hours, it’s a talk show, not finals night at Lucas oil stadium. Lighten up
Cadets technique really sucks. Typical bando style.
You suck kid
The fuck does this even mean
Ssssoooooooo dirty
Ur dirty jussie

They had very little time to rehearse and prepare for this
