PLEASE study the letter to the Hebrews. You might come to realize how seriously God took the old covenant priesthood, that was only from the tribe of Levi...and anyone else who acted as priests were put to death. Jesus was from the tribe of Judah. He offered himself as a sinless sacrifice...once for all. PLEASE let the word of God speak to you. Don't fear the RCC. Jesus said “Unless you eat my flesh and drink my blood, you will have no life within you.”
There are two beliefs: 1. Real Presence 2. Symbolic
Real presence is believing the bread and wine are substancially transformed into the flesh and blood of Christ.
Symbolic is believing the bread and wine do not become real flesh and blood.
    Which is right?
There are two kinds of theology:
    1. Believing - they look for reasons to believe and understand.
    2. Denying - they look for reasons to disbelieve and deny.
    Which are you?

When people wrongly take Jesus literally. Jesus corrects them and explains:
    John 3:3-5, 6:32-35, 8:31-36, 12:11-14, 4:31-34, Mat 16:5-12, Mat 19:24-26
When people rightly take Jesus literally Jesus confirms and repeats:
    Mat 8:2-6, Jn 8:36-59, Jn 6:45-51.
One of the few exceptions when Jesus does not explain, is Jn 2:19, but the Gospel's writer does explain that "temple" means Jesus' body.
The figurative use of "eat my flesh and drink my blood" in the 1st c. Semetic context...
In Aramaic, as well as Hebrew, Arabic, Koine Greek, and even Modern Greek, to "eat the flesh and drink the blood" of another human being has a specific figurative or metaphorical meaning, namely to destroy, assault, persecute; especially by slander or calumny.
Anne Rice let me know (yes, THAT Anne Rice, via the old Amazon forums) that even today, a Middle East laborer will say "I drank my own blood today" as a metaphor for an especially hard work day
Even in Scripture, this figurative usage is consistent...
Ps 27:2 evildoers devour my flesh
Is 9:18:20 each devours neighbor's flesh
Is 49:26 make your oppressors eat their own flesh
Micah 3:3 eat the flesh of my people, chop them up like meat in a kettle, like flesh in a cauldron
2Sam 23:15-17 Shall I drink the blood of the men who went at the risk of their lives? Therefore [David] would not drink it
Rev 17:5, 16 make her desolate and naked and devour her flesh and burn her up with fire

      @djfg1938 Hello,
My name is Cesar Loya and I am one of the assistant pastors at Calvary Church Albuquerque. I will be responding to your inquiry.
Thank you for watching Pastor Skip’s teaching on John chapter 6. You raise a very important question as it relates to how God draws people to himself. To answer this question, I will refer to Norman Geisler’s book called Systematic Theology.
Can anyone believe unto salvation without God’s special grace?
Even though faith is possible for the unsaved, nonetheless, no one can believe unto salvation (to have saving faith) without the aid of God’s special grace. Jesus says, “No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me has drawn him” (John 6:44). Paul adds, “By the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect” (1 Cor. 15:10). Jesus promises, “My grace is sufficient for you” (2 Cor. 12:9). Paul confessed, “I can do everything through him who gives me strength” (Phil. 4:13). Indeed, David acknowledged to God, “Everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your hand.” (1 Chron. 29:14).
However, although no one can believe unto salvation without the aid of God’s saving grace, the gracious action by which we are saved is not monergistic (an act of God alone) but synergistic (and act of God and our free choice). Salvation comes from God, but it is received by our cooperation, as we have noted, His grace is not exercised on a passive object but on an active agent.
I hope that this response serves to clear up the questions that you posed. I recommend Norman Geisler’s book on salvation called Chosen but Free for any other questions you might have on the subject.
      In Christ,
      Cesar Loya | Assistant Pastor

@@CalvaryABQ First, I'd just like to thank Skip and the entire ministry team at your church for putting together these Expound videos. They've been a great blessing to me in my personal walk with Christ, and with my own studies and ministries that God has placed me in. That said, I in no way, mean any disrespect my brother (Cesar Loya) in Christ, but if you could please just directly answer djfg1938's question, "So are there some the Father doesn't draw?" it would be greatly appreciated.
As I already know what I believe this passage is saying regarding God's drawing of souls, but I would like to know what Skip Heitzig, and the ministry team at your church believes on this passage, which has been for several decades, a hotly debated topic and still is, one of the hottest, today. I understand that only by God's grace (God's part), through faith (man's part), is what all saved souls are saved by (Eph. 2:8-9), but do you guys believe that God's SAVING grace is only limited to the few souls that He selects to draw and has created for Heaven before the foundation of the world (Eph. 1:4)? And, therefore, by implication, believe that all other souls don't get SAVING grace and therefore, were created for and are predestined by God for hell? Meaning, the Father didn't draw them and created them for hell?
Again, I ask this question with all love and respect as your brother in Christ. Due to the fact that in my pursuit to continuously walk right (in holiness) with Christ, I'm always checking my own walk (1 Cor. 10:12). In short, I don't want to be right, I just want to be right (by faith in Christ) with God. I'll standby for your answer.
Thank You and may God's Blessings continue to be upon your church and ministries!

Was an atheist until 48. Think I have a simpler answer to your question
Father desires (not wills or commands) that all be saved.
Therefore IMO everyone gets their heart softened and are drawn to the Father multiple times in their lives. The rub is: How do people respond? They have free will to choose yay or nay.
IMO at some point - if repeatedly rejected - the Father may stop the process and leave one to his own beliefs. We know how that ends up.
Support for this is the stat that reports the percentage of Christian’s coming to faith at different ages. Percentage goes down as the age number goes up.
Ex: for my age (48) group range less than 5% of Christians came to faith in that time frame. Overwhelming number of Christians came to faith 21 and under.

When you say it is both, Devine Election and man's responsibility, l cannot find it anywhere in Scripture.
It is ONLY Devine Election, what GOD does, not what we do.
If it is what we also do then it is works for which we in ourselves have reason to boast.
And He was saying, “This is the reason why I have told you that no one can come to Me unless it has been granted him [that is, unless he is enabled to do so] by the Father.”

There are only two priests in the order of Melkizedek...Melkizedek, and Jesus. PLEASE study the letter to the Hebrews. The only true human (sinful) priests were from the tribe of Levi...who offered gifts and sacrifices for their sins and the sins of the people. Jesus (sinless) was from the tribe of Judah. He offered HIMSELF. God didn't establish a church that requires another human (sinful) priesthood that offers sacrifices. He took the Levitical priesthood seriously. That's why anyone other than priests from the tribe of Levi, who acted as priests were put to death. Both Roman Catholicism and Mormonism claim to have priests in the order of Melkizedek, but it was only Jesus to whom God swore an oath that He is a priest forever in the order of Melkizedek. When Jesus told the disciples to do this in memory of him , it was to offer the one true sacfrifice of calvary not repeated but re presented. The one sacrifice made present outside of time. Priests are in persona christi while performing sacraments ,the ordinary way Gods grace is bestowed to humanity. But it is truly the Lord Jesus living as high priest through his priests communicating his grace , his body and blood, his mercy, his healing, his authority in the sacraments of the church . Which are , holy orders , baptism, confirmation, holy matrimony, annointing of the sick, reconciliation, and holy communion . Each being an intimate encounter with our Loving God . Priests are by no means God or anything close to that at all, but Gods life giving love is poured through the vocation and ministry of the priesthood by the authority of the one high priest Jesus our Lord.

      Thanks for the response.
A bit confused : The term “apostolic” was not part of the earliest versions of the Apostles’ Creed. The original formulations of the creed, which began to take shape in the 2nd and 3rd centuries, focused on the core elements of Christian faith without explicitly mentioning “apostolic.”
So it was added to original creed?
Catholic - In the Apostles’ Creed, the term “catholic” is derived from the Latin word “catholicus”. The Latin “catholicus” comes from the Greek word “καθολικός” (katholikos), which means “universal” or “general.”
In the context of the Apostles’ Creed, “catholic” signifies the universal nature of the Church, indicating that it encompasses all Christians worldwide, transcending local or sectarian boundaries. It emphasizes the Church’s role as the universal body of believers that includes all who follow the teachings of Christ.
In Matthew 16:18, the term used for “church” in Greek is “ἐκκλησία” (ekklesia).
      Meaning of “ἐκκλησία” (ekklesia):
      • Literal Translation: The word ekklesia originally referred to an assembly or gathering of people. In ancient Greece, it denoted a public assembly or assembly of citizens for political purposes.
      • Christian Usage: In the context of the New Testament, ekklesia is used to describe the Christian community or congregation. It refers to the collective body of believers who are called out from the world to gather for worship, fellowship, and instruction in the faith.
In Matthew 16:18, where Jesus says, “I will build my church” (“ἐκκλησία”) on the rock, the term signifies the community of believers that Jesus would establish and build upon the foundation of Peter’s confession of faith. It emphasizes not just a physical gathering but a spiritual community with a mission and divine purpose.
So your explanation does not make sense from the original language?
And of course in Matt 16:18 I am sure you know Peter (petros) and rock (petra) have two different meanings????

I Am Present in the Eucharist despite the misinterpretation of My Promise
    Thursday, April 14th, 2011 @ 00:05
My dearly beloved daughter, do not worry. You are improving in the way you are setting time aside in prayer to Me. Now it is important that man understands that in order to come closer to My Heart, he must understand the need to receive the Sacrament of the Most Holy Eucharist.
Many people, including other Christian groups, deny My Real Presence in the Eucharist. Why they have decided to deny the promises I made at My Last Supper, where I promised I would give My Flesh and Blood as Food and Nourishment for your souls, is unclear. What is clear is that the Miracle of the Holy Eucharist, Present in all Tabernacles all over the world, Exists today, and is there to fill your poor, undernourished and empty souls with My Presence. This Presence will strengthen you in ways, that, were you to miss receiving Me once you get used to this, you will feel lost.
Many Christians ignore one of the most fundamental promises I made during My Crucifixion, where I would be Present in Bread and Wine and leave a permanent mark to help nourish souls. Too much human reasoning has meant that I have been rejected by even well meaning Christians. These same Christians cannot receive the Holy Eucharist in its True Form. The Most Holy Eucharist was given to you all as a great Gift for your redemption and salvation. By rejecting the fact that I Am Present, means that you are forfeiting special graces, which are part of a pact to bring Me even closer into your hearts. Remember, when I died for you, it was to lead you to towards eternal life and salvation. Receive Me as the Living Presence and your souls will alight in ways you would not have believed possible. Turn back to receiving My Body and Blood. Let Me remove your doubts. This is one of the biggest mistakes Christians have made, by denying Me entry to their souls in this way. It greatly offends My Eternal Father because of the Sacrifice involved to save your souls. Let Me bring Light and nourishment into your lives. You will be more inclined to accept the Truth of My Teaching after The Warning takes place.
Remember what I promised during My Last Supper that when you take the bread and wine it will become for you My Body and My Blood.* Any other interpretation has been distorted by human logic and reasoning. Now understand and accept the Truth.
    Your loving Saviour, Jesus Christ
*For clarification on the Doctrine of Transubstantiation please refer to the Message given on Friday, June 1, 2012 08:15 PM
“When the antichrist devours all religions the only weapons which he will be powerless against is the Holy Mass and the Transubstantiation of the bread and wine into My Body and Blood, in the Holy Eucharist.”

Sloppy exegesis of John 6:63 “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is no help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life.” Jesus is not referencing what he said in John 6:53-58. He is answering the question: “This is a hard saying; who can listen to it?” (John 6:60). Because Jesus’s words are Spirit and life, when He says “This is my body, this is my blood,” the bread and the wine are his body and blood. Those who are operating in the flesh (like this preacher) cannot accept what Jesus teaches, only the Holy Spirit can enable him to accept this teaching. Praying that Skip Heitzig repents of his apostasy.

@@JohnAdams-zh4tz It’s based on basic reading comprehension skills. In John 6:51 Jesus says that the bread He will give is His flesh. In John 6:52 the Jews start arguing, objecting “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?” If Jesus was speaking symbolically or metaphorically and not literally, now would be the time to explain His meaning. But instead He intensifies His language in John 6:53-58, stating we must eat His flesh and brink His blood in order to have life in us, that His flesh is real food, His blood real drink, et cetera. When some of His disciples object that eating His flesh and drinking His blood is “unacceptable,” (John 6:60), Jesus responds that His words are Spirit and they are Life. “Spirit” does not mean “metaphorical” or “symbolical.” Or is the Third Person of the Trinity the Holy Metaphor? Did Jesus call the poor in symbol blessed? Where else in Scripture does “Spirit” mean “symbol” or “metaphor”? No where!

Thank you for your thoughtful answer. I am a little confused. While some talk about the bread of life and eating/drinking of body and blood being metaphorical or symbolic, not sure they are saying that about “Spirit” in verse 63.
      1. The Spirit Gives Life: Jesus emphasizes the importance of the Spirit, suggesting that spiritual understanding and life come from the Holy Spirit. The Spirit is the source of true life, which is eternal and transcends physical existence.
      2. The Flesh Counts for Nothing: This phrase can be understood to mean that mere physical or literal interpretations without spiritual insight are insufficient. Jesus is not dismissing the importance of the incarnation but is pointing out that understanding his teachings requires spiritual discernment rather than a purely literal or material perspective
      3. Words Full of the Spirit and Life: Jesus is highlighting that his teachings (his words) are imbued with the Holy Spirit and therefore have the power to impart spiritual life. His words are not just ordinary teachings but carry divine truth and the potential to bring eternal life to those who accept and believe them.
He is talking about spiritual understanding, not metaphors nor symbolism.

My second point of confusion is regarding the understanding of metaphors or symbols. John utilizes 7 “I am” statements in gospel. Using basic reading comprehension which are literal and which are metaphorical/symbolic?
      1. I am the bread of life (John 6:35, 48, 51)
“Jesus said to them, ‘I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.’”
      2. I am the light of the world (John 8:12; 9:5)
“Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.’”
      3. I am the door of the sheep (John 10:7, 9)
“So Jesus again said to them, ‘Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep.’”
      4. I am the good shepherd (John 10:11, 14)
“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.”
      5. I am the resurrection and the life (John 11:25)
“Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live.’”
      6. I am the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6)
“I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
      7. i am the true vine (John 15:1, 5)
“I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser. … I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.”

@@JohnAdams-zh4tz There is, of course, a significant difference when Jesus speaks of “my flesh” as opposed to “the flesh.” Jesus is the Word made flesh, God taking unto Himself in a personal way our human existence, and through His sacred humanity God is now with us by becoming one of us, forging an unbreakable unity of divinity and humanity in His own Person. “The flesh”, on the other hand, refers to the futility of human minds attempting to apprehend divine things without the enlightening assistance of grace.
When we read Genesis 1 (to which the fourth Gospel alludes repeatedly), we read how God created by speaking things into being, creating order and life. Over the waters of the primordial chaos, we are told, hovered or brooded God’s spirit, and when God said, “Let there be etc.,” each thing came into existence. By claiming His words are “Spirit and Life” Jesus is claiming the divine power to speak things into existence. Thus, at the Last Supper, when Jesus declared “This is my body, this is my blood,” His divine power changed these created elements into His body and blood.
Jesus’s statement “I am the door” is preceded by a simile about shepherds, a sheep pen which sheep exit and enter, etc. Jesus then explains what each of those elements in the story mean, and the gate symbolizes himself. So when he says “I am the door,” he’s explaining what that element in the parable symbolizes.
“I am the bread of life come down from heaven” is indeed metaphorical language. Jesus is not literally a slice of bread, or a clump of manna, wafting down from the sky. Nor do I believe Jesus is literal bread or becomes literal bread. The key statement here is NOT “I am he bread of life come down from heaven,” but, “the bread I will give is my flesh for the life of the world.” The “I am” statement is the metaphor; the “bread I will give” statement is the explanation. At the Last Passover, Jesus did not transform Himself into bread and wine; he changed the bread and wine into His body and blood - the bread that He gave was His flesh.
