I did not think I would benefit from this, thinking that I knew already how to clean my bike. But I certainly did learn from the video, particularly in the use of the degreaser and your nifty use of the toothbrushes to clean the detailed small parts. Thanks very much.
Thank you for the comment It’s great to hear that the video has been of Benefit it honestly makes the hard work of putting these very videos together worth while. All the very best for 2018 and here’s to a cleaner bike than ever 👍
Great video! The Cuban national team uses mineral spirit on the chain and also to wipe down the frame it works great..! Quick question, are you selling the Eddy M. and what size is that frame? 50-52? As always great videos!
Hi thanks for watching and also the hints for cleaning. Regarding the Eddy M the bike was a viewers so unfortunately it is not for sale. All the best and thanks for the support
If your jockey wheels are higher end (with actual ball bearings) hitting them with degreaser might not be the best idea. Also some dish soaps (like the cheaper dawn equivalents) can dull paint on lower quality bikes with little or no clear coating from the factory.
Good tips to add to my usual routine. I must admit I have a motorbike as well and use my chain cleaning procedure for cleaning my bicycle as well. Frame: Rinse with water, muc-off cleaner (the pink stuff) , rinse, shampoo, rinse, dry. Chain: chain cleaner, chain brush, chain cleaner again, muc-off, rinse, dry with a cloth and then use MO94 as a water dispersant, then lube.
Great tutorial Andy.....What chain lubricant do you recommend using that does not discolour the chain, rear sprockets and chainwheel when applying after a thorough cleaning? Thanks in advance and all the best for the new year. John from Canada.
Hi John, the Muc Off Lubes are great and smell fruity however they are on the expensive side. For me its using the correct lube, Wet or Dry. Wet being sticky for wet conditions expelling water, but being sticky it is prone to picking grit up which in turn will damage working parts. This type of lube needs regular cleaning and reapplying. The dry lube for nice dry conditions is a thinner lube. Ill generally give the bike a clean after most rides and find it very therapeutic. I have bicycles well over 25 years old that I still use regular I believe keeping them clean has kept them working well for all those years. I hope this helps Andy
Thanks for the advice Andy I will definately check out the "Muck off" products. My bike is in the basement of my house hooked up to my indoor trainer and will be for the next few months. Riding outside is on hold for a while as the weather has turned really cold lately, for example today was -20c "brrrrrrrrrrrr" Thanks again. John from Canada.
Vintage bikes are cool. I'm going to restore my Fuji Racer . 531 tubing through out , Nervex Lugs , Campy old Record. The serial number is F0H00006. Can you please tell me something about the history of the bike.
To be honest this wasn’t my bike and one that was used for the 2018 Calendar 📆 it’s a lovely bike and a shame not to have matching components. Thanks for tuning in a watching! All the best for 2018
