I live in Riggs Park D.C. there are a lot stays in my area. I friended a Momma cat and took 3 of her babies. They are now healthy happy kitties. They stay in doors. 😊
One very cold winter years ago, I helped a neighborhood cat who I used to feed. I tried bringing him inside the house, but my cat wasn't having it. So I used two cardboard boxes, one smaller than the other, with pink fiberglass insulation between them. I put an automobile caged trouble light with a 5 watt bulb inside, and it was warm enough inside to keep his water dish from freezing. I put the shelter on my porch out of the wind. He loved it. I found him a forever home in the spring.
I made one for the stray living in my backyard and it's totally changed him! Ever since he took up residency in it, he's looking healthier and perkier! Can't recommend these enough.
I really just don’t understand why people would dislike these videos! I mean even if you’re a ‘dog person’ you should still appreciate what these people are doing! 🐈😻
I've always found "dog" people to be snooty to those who prefer cats. I love animals, I prefer cats, BUT that doesn't mean I put anyone else down or think I am better simply because of my preferences. I've found dog people tend to be meaner to cats. I don't get it, ya can't love one specie and then be a jerk to other animal species.
Recently I saved two kittens that are sisters and they are doing fine. They are now 13 weeks old and they are very healthy. I am only a kid but had fun doing it with my mum and I hope to do it later in my life xx ❤️
My mom has a couple of "cat boxes" hidden under her patio furniture with a tarp covering the whole mess. She refers to it as Hotel Kitty-Wanda, and the community cats love it! It's in a subterranean balcony covered by another one so it's already partially out of the weather. There are plenty of things they can use as stepping stones to get out (provided they can't just jump out altogether, which is very doable), it's hidden from potential predators, and there is fresh food and water put out daily. Some of the females have even deemed it safe enough to have kittens in, so that's a ringing endorsement! Some of the regulars have even allowed Mom and her mate close enough to snap photos and/or pet them, and a few have even become part-time house cats. There's a particular male named Ash who may end up coming with them if they move because of how attached he is to them.
Thank you for what you do for them. I alone take care of 9 around my house plus each day I travel 10 miles to feed another colony 5 miles away I used to contribute to Alley Cat Allies but since I'm taking care of so many myself I can no longer afford it. I am on social security and this has become my mission and my hobby. Luckily I found a vet 26 miles from my house who is giving me great prices on neutering them one at a time. I hope to have them all neutered before any more females get pregnant. I am doing one per week right now. Keep up the good work. Is nice to know other people care as much as I do.
I'm so glad I found this video. There's a cat that keeps triggering my security cameras outside my house and I feel so bad that I'm at work and can't help it. I'll definitely be making one of these tomorrow so it has somewhere to stay warm during these cold Michigan winter nights ❤️
Omg! Y'all are so cool! I love cats and I am so happy to see all y'all are doing to help. Everybody please always pray for the homeless people and cats and dogs! God bless you all.
That's incredible!! I have 2 shelters set out for mine, I bought them catbeds to sleep on, they love it (I spayed the mom and 1 of the kittens, I still have to trap the second baby, she doesn't want to go in 😠). Bucky and Cherry-on-Top, my 2 adult males, I still need to trap, don't sleep on location, they only come for the food lol
I'm just binging these videos to see the variations of cat shelters from other kind humans lol. I made one for my little stray outside using leftover wall insulation and straw for the bedding and duct tape for the opening to cover the sharp edges. Tossing in some treats helps them want to explore the inside. Now the little guy uses it whenever it gets cold/snows.
This is awesome! Something I've been told is that when making feral/community cat shelters it's best to make sure there's a second doorway cut into the shelter for the cats to use - that way they always have an extra escape route in case the worst happens and dogs/foxes/other predators attack. They say to ensure one of the doors opens onto some bushes or another slightly concealed area so cats feel confident entering & exiting the shelters also. Have you guys encountered that info before? Perhaps it pertains more to rural areas than urban - I'd be interested to hear any insight the experienced cat welfare peeps have to share :)
Your right goodbye is the goal I'm not going to say your perfect but you are a life saver and I hope you know how many life's you are saving with your amazing videos I love you wee love you
I have community cats in my yard. I managed to care for them for years, i build new shelters every year. Hey are very thankful. They love my yard. They do live very happy lives outside. They have room to run and hunt and play. They love the summer...the winter is tough on them. I do what i can but it is very cold this year. I have a small heat mat in one of my shelters. My main oldest kitty molly loves it. She lays on it all the time, exxept when weather gets extreme, then ahe retreats to under a shed. Sometimes in the shed. Its hard to watch them out in this weather but they do make it thru.
Yeah i love cat videos i got two kittens myself i am very young so my mum wanted one to but she had to get two because they were the only ones my auntie was giving out because she got rid of the mum cat and the two kittens were very similar to the other kittens born with them and one was scared and one was hyper so it was really a mistake for two of them
I have two ferals I take care of and I rescued and got successfully adopted four little kittens that were feral. I love them all dearly. The two I still have are learning to trust me and I am so close to the petting stage.
U are an awesome lady, Hannah ❤️😊. Thank u so much for all the u do❤️😇😊. U are an Angel for rescuing kittens 🐱 ❤️😊😇. My 22 year old granddaughter & I have put in application to help the SPCA in Virginia ❤️ Thanks for saving kittens 🐱
I've been watching after a stray for about a week & I'd bring her in but I think she'd find a way out because after she's done eating she goes to the door & stands until I let her out. She's a sweetheart & I want to make sure she's warm enough.
THANK YOU SO MUCH Hannah for all the help, nice job👍 (i cant loose faith in humanity just yet thanks to you😄)If it weren’t for you and many other wonderful people, there wouldnt be very many happy and healthy cats (and dogs) left.I’m SO GLAD the “team” is there to help all of the animals in need!! ❤️
I love cats there my passion there what I love there what calm me down and what you have done is amazing and this is verry kind of you because alot 9f cats don't have homes and are cold sad where I am a cat was bullied by its brothers and she started comeing in are house and now we feed her and she's basically are cat now so I'm so gratefull of this video and this like I've send so so kind of you and the people who helped you should get a reward
Thank you for being a hero to all cats. You're an amazing woman and I wish you all the help you need to continue your mission. I will be helping out in what I can in our neighborhood.
Thank you so much for your endless wealth of knowledge Kitten Lady! We spent the night making shelters for our adopted feral kids as it was quite cold and rainy. I hope they enjoy them. You have honestly changed our lives and have helped us even raise an orphaned week-old kitten we stumbled upon. He's now 7 months old and as happy/healthy as can be thanks to you! Thank you, honestly.
just did the same for the feral cats in our apartment complex, another neighbor trapped them and got them fixed and we all take turns feeding them and providing clean water daily but its so cold, so I made the same type shelter because its so cold and wet...they are using it!
I'm robin from wisconsin I love how you made the shelters for cats in the winter thumbs up to all of you my husband made a cat house for all of our strays so they have comforts of home . I feel sorry for their there paws most people don't want to anything for cats maybe we should make people stay outside like they do to cats
There's a small handful of community cats in my neighborhood, and one of them is actually comfortable enough with my family to come inside the house when he gets too cold, but these are great for the other cats who are more feral
I live in the Ogden/SLC and I worked with bottle babies before... but after studying you and your program the last 2 years, I’ve tweaked what I do a bit and I’m proud to say my “nursery” is ready for the tiny and mighty...
Glad I found this! We live in Woodbridge VA and we have this Cat ( we named him Riff Raff) just hanging around the house. He seems pretty chill and we don't mind having him around since this area tends to have a mice problem. If we can make his winter a little easier, why not.
I love the shelters you all have built. One suggestion for more timid or feral cats is to have a secondary opening. That way they don't feel like they could be confronted in their safe space by another cat, dog or human. I realize it cuts down on how warm the shelter might be, but if it is between using it and not, maybe offer both styles in a community cat area.
This was awesome. Damn I really spoil my ferel colonies... I care for 9 regularly, I just purchased the XLG pods sold on Etsy... there're be sleeping in a luxury condo. Then I got a 2nd XLG from Ark workshop. Lets just say neither was cheap! This was the most I ever spent this year. I wanted high grade that will last them for years.

Yeah we bought a house an unknowingly inherited stray cats the previous owners were feeding. Made a point to make lots of shelters this year for winter.
Help! How do you keep raccoons groundhogs and other animals out of these shelters? And should there be more than one hole in case the cat gets cornered?? Looking to make one for my feral cat for the upcoming IL winter. Thanks!
I’m from Massachusetts and want to make winter shelters for cats in my community and Boston this video was very helpful and I want to get further involved. Thank you
In my street there’s about 15 cats and half of them are newborns. I managed to rescue all of them by myself and by you kitten lady thank you so much 😊
Reema Aldalbahi buy or borrow some traps and get everyone fixed before Spring, they'll be happier and healthier. 💘 🐱

I've built these using coolers that I picked up at local thrift stores or online classifieds. They work great since they are already insulated.
Great Idea.
I’ve used coolers as cat shelters too!
Wow, awesome idea! Is there a video of your process?
how do you cut out the hole for the cats to get into?
My mom has a couple of "cat boxes" hidden under her patio furniture with a tarp covering the whole mess. She refers to it as Hotel Kitty-Wanda, and the community cats love it!
