- Didn't need another car, which is why I went out and bought this 1963 Pontiac Tempest LeMans convertible. It has the Trophy 4, which is a half of a 389 V8 engine and a four speed transmission. Watch as we get this old car running and driving.

Mike,
Good score on the Tempest! Don’t lose any wheel cylinders, as they are impossible to come by. You will have to rebuild the cylinders you have. Even the front kits are hard to find. I just bought a ‘62 Lemans coupe. See you at Carcadia. Timmy G
I will have to go see
I think it's closely related to the Pontiac Tempest in 1963. Hard to find parts for.
love those old pontiacs et me now if your gonna sell it they are pretty hard to find
Probably going to sell it. Profits go towards fixing the 1940 Ford.
@@MikeFrankovich can you ball park a price?
@@jimbrown7226 Heading to PS to work on it tomorrow. I’ll try to come up with a price.
1963 had the revised rear swing arms and handle much better than 61-62.
Don't laugh, but there is a Pontiac set up just like your's somewhere on Utube running in the 12's if I'm not mistaken
It's Hard top. Blk
Had one for several years, great car. Mine was a 326 auto convertible. Would like to find a 4 cyl, 4 speed, 4 barrel car (yes, they made them). If you got the V326 you could only get a 3 speed or the Powerglide.
So I have a 63 myself with the 326 (336) as well with the 3 spd manual, I got it from my grandpa but where do you put oil into it? I know where the filter is and the drain plug but I have no idea where to fill it from……
@@ryanslattery2977 thru the breather cap on the valve cover. Remove the breather (twist out) and pour in oil.
There is a Guy upper Calif. Builds 4 cyl Race motors
I love the old Pontiac’s. Very cool car with quite the unique engine! I think it’s funny that “ it was running when parked it just needs brakes” that’s the same as my Mercury. Of course the Mercury was “in a barn” even though the carb was corroded beyond repair.
Cannot wait to see more on the Pontiac .
I would leave the GTO badges just for fun see if anyone knows better
If you look online it says gto was in production from 63 til so it might be factory added badges
@@gtoboss1992 only if it is a H.O. 326 or 383
Depends what the date code is . Some 62 's had 389. So the Cary over into 63 1/2 was a Pre GTO
Thanks fellas
The car was the forerunner for the gto and was the car that started the 1963 corporate ban on racing for gm because chevrolet division cried to gm brass about the lemans being faster than the corvette on the racetrack
U can order a 389 in that car which was special ordered and dealer installed and the 326 was actually a 330 did back then which was the v8 that came with the car and the 421sd was ordered for racing
It's a three speed transaxle. My brother had one with a 326 4 bbl. He blew the motor and he had a 400 he wanted to use.but not compatible with the transaxle. So he ripped out the transaxle and put a rear out of a56 Chevy and a 4sp . It was quick.2700 lb., torque and lead foot.
4 spd transaxle was an option on the 4 cyl cars.
Good looking car Mike.
It's is Corvair !
If thats a unibody car its a light weight .good for racing
A great find. remember the movie "Cousin Vinnie" the whole bit about the difference between a 64 La Mans and a 64 Buick special? the 63's and the 64's look about alike. It's amazing that a Georgia car would have that little rust. We are lucky here in Cali with mostly dry weather and no salt on the roads because of the snow. I have restored 30 yr old Cali cars that have literally no rust.
I remember that because they said it was a Tempest and I drove a '68 Tempest back when the film came out. My friends made a few jokes about that
@@MikeFrankovich the only Pontiac I have ever owned was a 61 bonneville that was built as a NASCAR style race car. my younger brother got out of the army in 1968 and bought a new Firebird with a 350 ci engine and a 4 spd. the first time he took it to the dragstrip he blew the engine big time. I found him a low mile 400 in a wrecking yard. so I would say that my families experiance has not always been great with tin indians.
Studebakers have left hand threads
I need T3 lights
I will take the 63!
Sold this earlier this year
What are you going to do with the Renault??
A rare item in the U.S.A. these days! Very comfy seats.
There is a Guy in O.C. Who restores these 61-63 and Olds . Some 63 Olds F88 has that 4 cly but with a 4 speed. I got 2 63 Olds F 85. One rag top same color as this car. And hard top 4 spd !
Out or the 3 GM compacts the Lemans only came with a 15 " wheel. You can bolt on 8 lug wheels on them
Same as a 62. I have a few. 64 did t come with a "Indy 4. Or "Tropy " 4
What the Vin tag say ? Late 63 1/2 ?
Because a 63 was the first pre GTO. If it came with a 389 or a H.O. 326
subbed to see the 40 ford revival ,any videos coming soon ?
My friend, who has built flatheads, offered to help get it running. He hasn’t had time to come by. Got the paperwork sorted out, new bias ply tires installed, and radiator done. I have a bunch of new parts I ordered for it including a new fuel tank. Some stuff is back ordered due to COVID. Originally wanted to have it ready for Grand National Roadster Show, but it got canceled. Want to take it to Goodguys at Del Mar in October if it’s not canceled.
@@MikeFrankovich You gotta do more videos along the way.
What did you end up doing with that car? Did you sell it? Would you like to? Thanks, Chuck.
I shot a second video where we got it driving, but I never posted it. It needed too much work, so I sold it.
Corvair Rope drive
I had a Tempest that same year.
Would love to have one with that motor still left in it
How much for it?
Sold it awhile back
Not fallin for it again , been waiting on the 40 ford for a month or more .. Nothin 👎
It's a John Delorian car. Less Cocaine 🤔😱😂
Year is it,hay is the river mall open
