I haven’t ridden anything newer than a 2012 R1. I went back to my 07 R1. I love it. That said, the new R1 seat to bars looks more level. But I love my R1. It’s fun to just hammer on it and I enjoy that feeling of needing full concentration. I’m not sure I’d enjoy all the new electronic rider aids of the new R1. The Ducati looks pretty leisurely. Wouldn’t mind taking that for a ride. But it’s always fun to get on an R1 and get your heart pumping.
My 06 R1 with minor mods was a scary beast. Triple digits in no time. That being said, my 01 Buell Lightning was oodles more fun. Sounded like a deep throated Harley, torque everywhere. Sexy as all hell.
Having multiple Kawi sport bikes and now 8n two Ducati's, hands down I absolutely love the Ducati's looks, sound, technology, fit and feel, not sure I'll go back to something else
Cost wise to performance the R1 is great. Performance it might be closer to a base V4. I rode a V2 2020 model recently as a test ride and really just loved everthing about it except one thing. The hips. The hips did not like it. Not sure if over did it or it something to get used to or what. Heat was not too bad. There is a heat mod you can do to knock it down. Suspension was great on it.
I had the 2006. It was a bit less snappy then other bikes in the group with 1000cc. I think the 20v 4 cylinder saved my life at lower speeds. Took a bit to get her going. The 5 valves per cylinder was more chunky to get moving
Just Bought the New V2 white! Akra full installed. It is coming this we👍 i tested in Mugello 2 days this July amd I love It. Much better than 959. 👍👍 my advice test it and You will love it!
This comes down to how hard do you have to work for speed , how comfortable you are with a bike and how smooth are you with the control of it , like a super car vs hyper car you can’t just hop in and drive it like a econobox, both are over kill for the streets
Where did you get 160 HP for the panigale V2? It’s 155 claimed by Ducati and I even checked some US reviews and specs and they all lost it as 155 Hp too!
Having owned a stock 2007 and slightly modified 2012 R1 and now a 2018 959. I only bought the Ducati because I couldn't find an un abused low mileage R1 that was fair priced. With that said I don't know I'd want it any other way. When I was 20 and 25 the r1 was perfect. Having not ridden in 8 years I think the newer r1 would not have been the best choice. The ducati is rideable, gives the sense of adrenaline I need at 34. I do feel more comfortable cornering the ducati as well.
I made a video that had hundreds of people arguing over a simple question. Is the Ducati V2 Streetfighter (same as the penigale V2) considered a Litre bike? Please I would LOVE to know.
He keeps talking about not shifting the R1. You know you can shift before the red line right? Also maybe I'm just used to sport bikes but I'm perfectly fine riding my r1 for over an hour. Sure the R1 is crazy fast but it is not unpredictable in any way. I guess it is all in what riding experience you have but I just don't get spites opinion of it being a hard or tiring bike to ride
Totally agree, I've ridden supersport inline-4s my whole adult life, and although I haven't ridden an R1 I've ridden plenty of supersport litre bikes and commute on one daily to work. Yes they are raw and unadulterated, but I can ride mine for at least a couple of hours before I begin to tire, take a short break each time you fill the tank and it's fine. You can comfortably cruise on them within the speed limit and when lower in the revs they're actually incredibly tame. They demand no more mental alertness than any other bike. It's only when you drop a few gears and get the revs up that everything goes crazy and they become mentally draining. Everything they're saying about them is true... If you're bonkers and are riding it in first and second gear everywhere.
@crimsonVoldrox absolutely, friendly, usable power, won't burn your balls or your wallet like a Ducati but won't be like monster like the R1 but just enough of power to have fun and reliability and cost of spares and service are a lot cheaper.
@@jonathanesqueda3452 it's upto what you want bruv, if your ok with balls to the wall performance go for the R1, you want something with good useable power the Honda will do just great
Did you make this vid just for me?!?!? Hehehehe, this was exactly my dilemma December 2019. Been a Yamaha guy since '95 (FZR1000, FZR600 for track use, then R1) I still ride my 2000 R1 but it was time to update my stable. 50 years old was around the corner and figured I deserved a Ducati but I was not sold. Just couldn't get past that tiny little tail. What to do?!? Came across an upgraded 848EVO stealth with 1205 miles on it. Problem solved =-) As usual, great vid!!!!
Good comparison video guys. Why not also compare the Panigale to the Hayabusa? I understand it's a brand new bike vs one that's several years old, but comfort and speed wise maybe those two are more comparable regardless of the weight and handling differences (if a person was going out for a longer day of riding).
I like how 2 weeks prior the r1 is the gentle road super bike easily to menage like a 390 duke would be. And now it’s a white shark that want o bite you not like the new V2 who’s usable and calm bike. Cant wait to see the next bike and you will tell the paningale is a dangerous bike. You read the press book and you repeat it.
We choose to ride YZF-R1 on the streets not because it is easy, but because it is hard, because that machine, will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills.
Tested the V2 myself 1 month ago. Awesome look. But I was a bit disappointed by the heat under the seat coming up very intense (suitable for cold Italian winters??) and a weird (long) transition from 1st to 2nd gear (felt like the Maschine would shut off..). Shame though cause the V2 seems to be a really cool ducati for not-yet-ducatista
It’s definitely a hot seat, chestnuts roasting on an open fire riding in town! But you do get heavily rewarded in the gorgeous looks and all the sport bike you could need on the road unless your a Superbike rider like my son (Ducati V4S) To me just over a week ago having a test ride I would trade minor body parts to own one!
LOL good review! Honestly this is why I prefer either V-twins or older era I-4 liter bikes like my CBR929. You just cant use the new I-4 liter 200hp bikes on the street, without possibly going to jail, and im so far from any track that it wouldn't make any sense to get a new liter bike especially an R1!
I had a ‘16 R1, fantastically powerful, and with a better seat, adjustable Gilles rearsets and gel grips…ergos weren’t too bad. But every time that I went out for a ride, it tried its best to kill me. For me, it was too much for the street. Traded it in for a Pani 959…now trading in my 959 for a V2. I’m much happier.
And you wonder why fewer riders are buying hyper sport bikes. Yes it's fun, but it's terrifying at the same time, riding a bike that could easily kill you if you make a mistake while riding it. At one point in history, manufacturers limited horsepower to 100, and now its at 200+, with no limits in site.
If you're an experienced rider, riding a 200hp bike is no more dangerous than riding a 100hp bike. Dedicated track oriented bikes are only more dangerous to the inexperienced and the idiot squids that will actually open them up on the street.

If it was my money, R1 all day! But then again i'm a Crossplane R1 simp
See me, I'm more for the new Fireblade, that silky Honda shriek up to 17,000 rpm, and the typical Honda "maximum reward with minimum effort", with even more power than the R1? Sign me the eff up!
@@LARGO125 but 1 grand less than a brand spankin new panigale v4s? I'd rather buy the tried and proven ducati instead.
Siv Vinod proven? Did you it get spanked by k5 gsxr on revzilla, im taking the fireblade any day other any ducati
@@1048-e5d bruh the k5 is the greatest sportbike ever built. Put the honda against it, the honda will also lose. At least ducati is somewhat winning in wsbk (and by that I mean 2nd and 3rd ride ducatis. Rea dominates as always)
@@sivvinod3187 don’t let that price trick you, parts and maintenance will be wayyy more money and if something goes wrong or rather when something goes wrong it’s going to be super pricey
"balanced" is a word missing from most Motorcycle Super Sport riders brains I think.
Spite being unable to playact mad is just the sweetest thing in y'alls friendship
I'm perfectly happy with my CBR 600RR. Than R1 is sexy tho.
True, in my opinion the 600’s are more fun. My main choices are cbr 600 and r6
I own a Ducati Daivel and MV Agusta F3. F3 is also good like CBR600, F4 is the aggressive one like R1.
My 06 R1 with minor mods was a scary beast. Triple digits in no time. That being said, my 01 Buell Lightning was oodles more fun. Sounded like a deep throated Harley, torque everywhere. Sexy as all hell.

When are you going to add a 600cc in the HQ?
600 is not a good beginner bike. 1000 top tier is much safer and slower!
Love Shootouts! Keep them coming papa yam
Awesome video guys , have been thinking Ducati lately .
Great info guys. You guys rock.
Where did you get 160 HP for the panigale V2?
It’s 155 claimed by Ducati and I even checked some US reviews and specs and they all lost it as 155 Hp too!
I really like your new format bro. Keep it up
Having owned a stock 2007 and slightly modified 2012 R1 and now a 2018 959. I do feel more comfortable cornering the ducati as well.
the jokes and references are just getting better :) smooth
Me rewatching this video 1 year later because I'm itching for supersport content. 🏍️🦈
Damn yammie knows the good spots to ride off bee caves
as an amateur audio guy, i really appreciate the symphony/limited metaphor between the two bikes. spot on Yamms
Dude, the last seconds of the video with the cowboy hat was the best thing about this video! Had to click like just because of that!
I made a video that had hundreds of people arguing over a simple question. Is the Ducati V2 Streetfighter (same as the penigale V2) considered a Litre bike? Please I would LOVE to know.
I love Ducati. Love the vids man
How does the Panigale v2's ergos compare to a Ninja 400? Is it the same level of relaxed, but slight forward lean?
The CBR 1000rr would be my choice.
@crimsonVoldrox absolutely, friendly, usable power, won't burn your balls or your wallet like a Ducati but won't be like monster like the R1 but just enough of power to have fun and reliability and cost of spares and service are a lot cheaper.
Yea I’m stuck between the r1 and the cbr1000rr both are very awesome
@@jonathanesqueda3452 it's upto what you want bruv, if your ok with balls to the wall performance go for the R1, you want something with good useable power the Honda will do just great
@@m.rraghav817 if you're aiming for something with good useable power, a 600 will work, don't need a liter for that lmao
@@project-bl2zz don't get 600s here but my answer for the cbr1000rr was to either R1 or ducati
That exodia bit was the funniest thing I’ve seen in a motorcycle video ever
When are you guys gonna do a comparison with a Kawasaki ZX10 ?
Great video!
How about comparing those with BMW S1000 RR ?
I like how 2 weeks prior the r1 is the gentle road super bike easily to menage like a 390 duke would be. And now it’s a white shark that want o bite you not like the new V2 who’s usable and calm bike. Cant wait to see the next bike and you will tell the paningale is a dangerous bike. You read the press book and you repeat it.
Please do drag race between R1 vs Ducati v2
Can you guys add Honda Fireblade with this comparison? Its also red though. And great review as usual. =)
Bro I loved the review but wtf was that "Riding an R1 is like receiving an invitation to a swingers' orgy" LOL 6:05
Thanks for a great comparison !
We choose to ride YZF-R1 on the streets not because it is easy, but because it is hard, because that machine, will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills.
Or just because it's fun...
@Bernd DasBrot Why say that. Is putting others down an attempt to compensate for your shortcomings..
Nice truthful review. Very accurate in my experience as well.
But you do get heavily rewarded in the gorgeous looks and all the sport bike you could need on the road unless your a Superbike rider like my son (Ducati V4S)
To me just over a week ago having a test ride I would trade minor body parts to own one!
THE FACT THAT YOU MENTIONED YUGIOH HAS BEEN GEEKING OUT
I had a ‘16 R1, fantastically powerful, and with a better seat, adjustable Gilles rearsets and gel grips…ergos weren’t too bad.
The modern liter bikes have so many electronic controls keeping you safe.
Love your vids old zed runner back in the day when your pushing for the 500 dollar ticket in the 80s it was all in skill . First super bikes so I concentrated on breaking if you could get them to chase fast and could break faster .. guard rails yours free of charge ticket paid . Now I’m old and slow but my R1 brings me peace nice bike love it. Thanks for the content.
Tinfoil for your Nuts. Hahahah. Something that 2nd and 3rd time Ducatisti forget about. "You mean all bikes don't roast your nuts and calf?" Love the video.
Ur just awesome buddy...the way u explain everything is fabulous..like m riding it...😊😊
