Well said...Tank is a legend. Always entertaining. His attitude is one that fans crave. The big strong guy that doesn't take shit. Win,lose or draw you can't take that from Tank. He''s a heart.
@Ludichris8531 Furthermore, I'm talking specifically about the strength skill of "controlled strength". In a large majority of cheating movements (i.e. olympic jerks, push presses, BTN jerk/PP, heavy power shrugs, Pendlay rows the way Pendlay himself describes) a GREATER load is placed upon the muscles being used and FAR greater coordination is required in order to complete the lift. And it's funny that you even mention wrestling as that has probably the most explosive movements in any sport.
Sometimes when you get in shape especially from age and injury, overtraining, weight loss, focusing time on other aspects of fitness, your one rep maxes go down...
Actually nobody benches 600, they go for 605... here's the footage... young Tank doing 605 raw, without perfect bracing or standard arching with control and explosive bounce... it's brute force, doesn't even do the standard powerlifting technique but benches with his feet out like the conjugate gladiators... all powerlifting jargon here guys ruclips.net/video/O7vT-hxwKU4/видео.html ruclips.net/video/O7vT-hxwKU4/видео.html
His first UFC was in Denver, and he said the high elevation killed him. But everyone else was tired in that UFC as well. Considering he has always been around 280 lbs., his cardio certainly wasn't bad.
He was in a car accident as a teenager and he almost lost his legs from what I hear. But a lot of strikers have legs like that. But it is unusual considering Tanks wrestling background. He wrestled most of his life and wrestlers usually have huge legs.
@Ludichris8531 au contraire, I have trained pretty extensively in submission grappling and wrestling over the past 3-4 years and the case holds true even there. Submissions are won and performed by leverage mainly, and have very little benefit (except in a few notable cases) from incredible strength, ESPECIALLY in the arms. The biceps have next to nothing to do with applying a perfect armbar, kimura, etc. It's leverage. And I was talking about acknowledging them in that comment specifically.
@Ludichris8531 Well, I guess you've got me there. That having been said, you still (arguably) acknowledged them as cleans, and the other half of what i've been saying is still relatively unargued. (i.e. cheat hammer curls and cheat rows are better than the regular movement)
@Ludichris8531 I'm aware of how to do a power clean and hang cleans. I'm speaking of the quick curl that guys like Jamie Lewis, dario2004 here on RUclips, Ricky Bruch used in their workouts. It came out of a weightlifting contest between Karl Norsberg and John Grimek, wherein Norsberg strict curled a weight and pressed it and John Grimek cheat curled the weight and pressed it (having won out at 270 lbs with Norsberg having curled 260 successfully).
Yes his form is bad/ brutal. I have only one thing to say, choose whatever form you like and do it... End of discussion. Anyone who trains seriously will say bad form but damn strong. There are a few videos of him benching over 600 raw. Without any sleeves or wrist wraps. Just a t shirt and go.
@Ludichris8531 His cleans, as you call them and as they actually are, were intended to be hammer curls. You referred to them quite specifically as "cheat hammer curls." I can go back and copy and paste that if you'd like me to.
@Ludichris8531 I was talking about the upright rows and cleans, but you've got a point as far as cheat benching. You're also comparing Abbott to a world record bench presser, and forgetting that Tank did have a 600 pound raw BP at one point.
Yeah, I kept hearing that about Kimbo. Who gave him that shot that rocked him? I don't remember seeing it. Either way, I too would love to see a slug fest just considering who is fighting, even though I prefer a ground match. Hey, who knows, maybe Tank WILL come in shape??
I'm glad you chose to use the word "haymaker" because the definition of that is a wild punch with all of one's power being put into it. It is a desperation move, more or less. That is why Tank is going to get KTFO. If, by chance, he lands his haymaker (which is powerful) he may win. But I just don't see Kimbo getting hit with it...I mean, I'm sure people were saying this same shit when Tank fought Frank Mir and lost by an embarrassment. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
How the hell is it possible to curl 150 lb dumbells!? Hell, some people can't even bench 150 or barely bench that if they have not trained...His form was not perfect, but still pretty DAMN GOOD for that much weight..
@Ludichris8531 Well, on thinking about the situation the other day I came to the conclusion that looking through the comments I noticed someone else describing them as "cleans" and referring to them as cleans in that first comment, and then forgot about it completely and skimming over the comments trying to locate the first mention of "cleans" missed it.
Love the form police always gettin there say in. Hes not a bodybuilder you eejits. Yeah form may be shit but hes shifting a shit load of weight obviously using other muscles to do so but this type of training gave Tank functional strength for fighting. Thats why he would throw bodybuilders about for fun, more all body exercises rather than isolating each muscle group. The point is do you wanna just look good or actually be useful at something?? Now everybody go da cheeuurch!!
Btw John Doe, going to church is our code name for smoking the herb. Seen ur pic and thought i'd let u in on that one incase u wondered what it meant. Spread the word, peace brotha!
True about Mir, but people were saying how he was gonna get KOed, but he didn't. I know his punches aren't "desperate" per se, but since he lacks technique, his haymakers are just as good as desperation shots. Granted, if it lands, you may die, but Kimbo is no stranger to dodging punches.
@Ludichris8531 Okay, yeah, I get what you're saying. Although there are people who would continue to disagree, I can definitely agree here. Apologies for my admitted stupidity earlier and for tossing some shit. I tend to make comments as quickly as possible, so (evidently) hadn't been thinking correctly. Although it's worth noting at this point that a lot of people do utilize the "quick curl" which comes out on the other end looking like a power clean with no catch.
My spelling has nothing to do with tanks inability to lift weights. The point is you can't say you can bench this and that unless it is approved by IPF rules or similar. Fat has nothing to do with power, fat doesn't make you stronger. It is the muscles and the mind working together that make the power. I have worked out with weights for many years, and if a biceps curl is jumping to make the weights go up in the air, then I can probably lift twice the weight i normally use.
I know people get on his complete lack of form, but Jesus, he's still shifting a lot of weight there. But it just goes to show; strength alone doesn't mean anything in a fight.
@biglogstrongman nope, where did I say that?I said that pusuing high levels of max strength is a waste of time and not needed in any type of fighting sport.Optimum means you need just enough and also massive amounts of conditioning and power endurance.
@Ludichris8531 Well that's all good and wonderful, but I'm describing mostly "cheat" movements outside of curling (see previous comment.) You're also messing up what I mean by controlled movements yet again. By controlled movements, I mean slow, steady movement, as I already explained. Also, on wrestling, I meant it literally has more movements that are explosive than any other sport. I'll admit some faulty on that one. Also, "extensive" as in "a lot of training hours" not "for a long time."
(continued)If Tank comes in with good cardio?? What is this, a game of "what if"? What if Kimbo comes in with submission skills? The point is, that from what I've seen of both fighters, I believe Tank will lose. When is the fight?
that is meant to be a 220kg bench press yeh??? well if hes using 45.6lb plates, and a 20kg+ barbell then it works out at just over 500lbs, but i have seen videos of him benching almost 600lbs!
Just like you can disobey laws. If you do, its likely you'll get in trouble, but you can. Not that no one steps outside the law somewhat or jay walks at times, but overall its good to withhold the laws. Translation: His bench shouldnt count, his curl is impressive, but wrong and the upright rows are just fine.
@Ludichris8531 I would argue that cheating is functional. There is NO movement in a fight that you do with 100% "control" or while "feeling the movement", it is composed entirely of EXPLOSIVE movements (i.e. cheat movements). It makes no sense to pick about whether an upright row or etc. uses momentum or what the fuck have you, because it's a movement that is functional and can ACTUALLY serve someone well in a practical application regardless.
..... I'm impressed by your rudeness even if it's over the net. But when doing bicep curls it's meant to work out your biceps primaraly, it's not intended to work your back muscles out and if they are, it's not the right way to do it. You got upright rows to work your back muscles up.
@HomicidalDavid lots of guys can power curl 150,virtually nobody could bicep curl it.Tanks upright is actually high pull straight fro olympic weightlifting
Most guys who look good aren't actually that strong. Powerlifters, although may not look as strong, are much stronger because of their thick cores and well-conditioned central nervous systems.
WHAT THE **** he does 150 lb curls holy shit. JESSE GODDERZ CAN DO 100s i thought that was really high. This guys body is strong but doesnt look as good for some reason.
Actually, that's ALL I've seen of Tank. Resting your mammoth bodyweight on your opponent is good strategy, but it is hardly indicative of "good cardio"...Also, Kimbo will kill Tank, racist comments or not...
@biglogstrongman im a sports rehabilitator and strength and conditioning coach in addition to training wrestling and mma for over 15 yrs.I know how to do and coach olympic lifts in detail. A power clean is about power ,not just strength and you wont get bigger doing it,its not strength training or bodyuilding, its max power.Carwin could only attain that output in the first few seconds of a fight, after that it gets less and less dependant wholly on endurance.
@biglogstrongman a fighter has no need for huge amounts of strength because its training detracts from endurance needed in mma,a fight is 5 x 5 mins. Also youll be using your strength mostly while fatigued already, rarely fresh.Carwins power comes from a lifetime wrestling and proper technique, his strength training helps a bit but would be useless by itself. An optimum amount of strength is needed for fighting, never the maximum amount, thats only needed in powerlifting.
he can bench 500 bouncing it off the chest for momentum and also curl with momentum swinging it up maybe drop the weight there buddy and do proper form
Everybody is talking about Tank being just a dumb bar brawler with no real training attitude. Well, how do you explain this? Lifting that much you do have to work hard, not even Tank was born that powerful. @tankimus You´re right - swinging curls sucks
Bouncing is not allowed in competitve powerlfiting. Tank's lifts would be discualified. And he has horrible form on especially the curls. He obviously doesn't know much about weightlifting. I agree. The UFC never actually saw him in his prime. He is a legend. So many fighters modeled themselves after him. And his knockouts are unforgettable.
wat the fuck man this guy is strong as fuck
Shame how Tank ended up, but at his peak he was the most exciting fighter in MMA. The NATURAL strength of the man is phenomenal!
Natural? 😂😂
HORY SHET!
upright rows 315 lb??? OH MY GOD!!!

Tank doesn’t need pre workout he runs on pure rage.
my arm would tear off. this guy is super strong.
Not always. Heaving heavier weights activates the semi-stretch as well as the negative to a much greater degree than strict form does.

he's bouncing the bar
He got it up for 2 Reps though
You bounce that much weight if it's so easy then.
