This entire run from Wrestlemania X8 to the Hollywood Rock story was the peak of my childhood. Nothing else on television had me as captivated as wrestling did at the time. As much as I enjoyed The Rock as the corporate champion in November 98 - April 99, his best work was his heel run as Hollywood Rock in 2003. He was so funny and entertaining, his promo in Toronto Canada where he faced Hulk Hogan at Wrestlemania X-8 is an absolute classic and the way he owned the fans for booing him out of the building. This period really showed how versatile he was as a performer and was always constantly reinventing himself, he got viciously booed at Summerslam 02 and straight away turned heel when he came back in 03. He never dragged things out and always knew when it was time to change his character. The Rock and Austin feud in 2003 was one of my favorites, it felt like watching the last in the trilogy and felt more personal than Mania 17 and 15, Mania XIX felt like the real end of an era because Rock and Austin had one last go round on the greatest stage of them all.

98 heel Rock with The Nation and especially with The Corporation was absolutely tremendous. This Hollywood version is another reason why he was so much better as a heel.
You have to remember that the only reason The Rock returned to WWE was just to obtain his title again. When he became a fulltime actor, he lost his name cause Vince owned the title The Rock. When he was a full time Actor his name was Dwayne Johnson. After he returned to be Hollywood Rock, Vince gave him his title back when he obtained a new contract with him and now when you see him in the Movies his title is now Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. Vince still has him under his thumb but I think Dwayne loves the wrestling business so much , he doesnt care which is why I love him so much as a wrestler. Wrestling is in the rocks blood. amazing life. The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin WAS the Attitude Era hands down.
Face or Heel, The Rock was (imo) easily the most captivating personality that the industry has ever seen. His ring work was always good (not off the charts, but still very good) but his mic work (more so promos) was legit second to none.
Hollywood Rock was super fun. He would clap for himself when or opponent after a good move. I remember the crowd booing him while they laughed. I don't know if any prowrestler ever got that reaction.
I wish the Hollywood version of The Rock lasted longer but at the same time, I'm glad it didn't because too much of the same thing eventually runs its course. If you look no further than The Rock's babyface run from 1999 to 2002 before his brief heel turn in 03, it's the reason why he did it again in the first place, his face gimmick was getting stale and the novetly of his Hollywood gimmick would've worn off too. Sometimes less is more.
love how the rock changed from speaking in third person as a face almost exclusively, but started talking in first person (i,me etc) as a heel - very change psychologically
Definitely the most underrated version of The Rock character. And it paid off. Being booed by the fans to eventually have them cheering for him when he fought Goldberg. And the culmination of The Rock & Austin storyline at Wrestlemania 19.
Cena legit apologized for it. And cena put in way many more years of work in wwe than rock did. And cena didnt go hollywood till he was in his 40s, a time when youre getting too old to be getting physical all the time, rock left during the peak of hia prime
Cena apologized for it because he realized guys like The Rock did the right thing. Cena screwed up waiting to long to get to Hollywood. Rock did it at a good time
I know The Rock as a Wrestler primarilly. My girlfriend knows him exclusively as an actor. She has no Idea what I'm on about when I mention the People's Elbow or his theme song or Westlemania.... Then I showed her his Pie song and she didn't believe it was him!
The Rock: The Rock has a very big night millions and millions of The Rock's fans waiting for him The Crowd: BOOOOOOOOO! The Rock: The Rock said _millions and millions of The Rock's fans waiting for him_ 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Even though they should have done it sooner, at least they did with Roman Reigns. I bet now Cena wishes he did do a heel turn. It would have been great for his career if he and WWE would have ran with it when the boos got started.
I think what really started the whole heel turn was during the raw 10th anniversary special when the rock tried cutting a Babyface promo on Chris Jericho but the live New York crowd absolutely booed the rock. If you remember what I'm talking about you can see the rock visibility confused at the reaction he got that night.
When the Rock filmed The Scorpion King, he was the highest paid first-time-lead actor in history, making $5 million for 3 months filming and work. No wonder he started to really value his time after that.
Interesting how The Rock’s run was insanely short, yet generationally iconic.
What it means everything he did was quality.
His run being short also meant that it never had the time to get old and for fans to get bored of him. Same with Stone Cold btw.
Yet Cena on top for 10 years got so stale and cancerous

Thank you wrestling bios this is my favorite version of The Rock I have this theme song as my ringtone
I might exaggerate ,but this channel is the best far away in all the RUclips ecosistem, and the owner is the most accurate narrator ✌🏻✌🏻✌🏻. Thank you
I wish the Hollywood version of The Rock lasted longer but at the same time, I'm glad it didn't because too much of the same thing eventually runs its course. If you look no further than The Rock's babyface run from 1999 to 2002 before his brief heel turn in 03, it's the reason why he did it again in the first place, his face gimmick was getting stale and the novetly of his Hollywood gimmick would've worn off too. Sometimes less is more.
The Rock Concert in Sacramento was one of the best things he ever did. It was amazing.
“One Rock Bottom! Two Rock Bottom! 3 Rock Bottom!” And soon later in that segment “Whose Next Rock? YOU’RE NEXT!” *Spear*. That was epic
love how the rock changed from speaking in third person as a face almost exclusively, but started talking in first person (i,me etc) as a heel - very change psychologically
Great video. Thank you
The rock and sock connection was funny as hell also his live concerts.
Definitely the most underrated version of The Rock character. And it paid off. Being booed by the fans to eventually have them cheering for him when he fought Goldberg. And the culmination of The Rock & Austin storyline at Wrestlemania 19.
I always found it funny how he wore the same outfit during his entire heel run
The Rock made himself a star,
People use to yell die Rocky die They turned on him at Wrestlemania with Hollywood Hulk Hogan
THE MOST ENTERTAINING WRESTLER STILL!!
When the rock cameback as Hollywood Heel Rock in 03 was freaking phenomenal. Even his promo when he turn on every Toronto fan was memorable hehe
I never understood why the fans would get on the case of wrestlers pursuing acting careers. They ARE muscular actors even as wrestlers.
I loved how Cena clowned him for years when he went Hollywood. And then he got bit by the Hollywood bug,and now look at him. True hypocrisy
Rock did it at a good time
Well scripted for Cena by the writers
Without a doubt, this is the best damn wrestling history channel on RUclips.
I know The Rock as a Wrestler primarilly. My girlfriend knows him exclusively as an actor. She has no Idea what I'm on about when I mention the People's Elbow or his theme song or Westlemania.... Then I showed her his Pie song and she didn't believe it was him!
"The New Shiny Toy" Brock Lesnar.... imagine the alternate universe where Brock's nickname was that instead of "The Next Big Thing" lol
No thanks.
In just a matter of a few weeks, Rock turned Hurricane into Raw's top babyface.
It took 21 years but HOLLYWOOD ROCK is back!!!
and it morphed into something much better in the form of the Final Boss.
The rock was a born heel just like Vince and Stephanie. So entertaining when they are at their best
Your remixes of the theme songs are really cool. Great video, keep up the good work!
It was so great to see the Rock beat Austin at WM given how Rocky was always willing to put others over
tbh rock should have won at 17
The Rock: The Rock has a very big night millions and millions of The Rock's fans waiting for him
The Crowd: BOOOOOOOOO!
The Rock: The Rock said _millions and millions of The Rock's fans waiting for him_
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I swear that was my favorite line lol
He definitely took acting classes before his heel turn. It's actually got great comedic timing.
An example of effective crowd reading and not forcing something that isn't working.
Rock was like I don't wanna wrestle HHH give me Austin! Legend!
That first Rock Concert was classic!!🤣🤣
“It’s a shame that WWE didn’t take this approach with other superstars the years that followed” Via stars like John Cena and Roman Reigns...
This was my favorite variation of Rock. The minute that awesome titantron hit made my day.
Hurricane was a really underrated talent. I wasn't surprised he had chemistry with The Rock or with anyone.
“Yaaaayyyy he said Toronto! That’s where we live! We’re from Toronto!! AWWWWW SHUT UP!!!” 🤣🤣🤣
When the Rock filmed The Scorpion King, he was the highest paid first-time-lead actor in history, making $5 million for 3 months filming and work. No wonder he started to really value his time after that.
It's seems that the Scorpion King got a tiny dingaling😂😂😂😂
"WHOA!! NO!! WHOA!! WHAT?!? NO!!"
@@suprcrzy 😂😂😂😂
'Easy big fella' 😂😂😂
Meat gazer
The Rock is definitely one of the best
