Oh y’all, my Grandma Peggy was from England, married a GI during WWII, and moved to the US. She was an absolute siren. She always listened to this kind of music, the music they played in the dance halls during the war. She was an incredible dancer. She lived into her 90s, and became a little vague and forgetful, but hearing these old swing tunes would bring her right back to the present, and she would tell us her stories. Thank you thank you thank you for this compilation 💕💕💕
This reminded me of a phrase a local war hospital had about American GI’s “over payed, over sexed, and over ‘ere!” (I think there was some saltiness of these hot US soldiers with their unlimited stockings and sexy accents stealing British girlfriends and whisking them back to the states 😂) Your grandma sounds so sweet, age is a hell of a beast but it’s amazing how transformative a good song can be 🙇♀️💖

I especially love the first song! Every time I roll this video on my smart TV, I start feeling cozy, and I imagine elegant ballrooms. Apparently, my budgies enjoy it, too. My mom, God rest her, was a child in 1930s Philadelphia, and when I played her my two-cd set of Great British Dance Bands while visiting her, she hummed along to the music. She told me she remembered music like that on the radio.
What a treasure trove of music. The lyrics in much of this music was imaginative and well-crafted. Thinking of those days before any of our technology. Just the radio. Wow.
It is so soothing and melodic. These were great days for band music and fashions. For those out there listening, a little later, but whackier try Spike Jones and his City Slickers, zany, craxy but oh such talented musicians every one of them. A lot you will find on RUclips too.
