i was pretty sure through the whole book that jam was supposed to be autistic or neurodivergent in some way, but because i've read too many stories where blatantly neurodivergent traits are dismissed and the characters are never confirmed to actually *be* neurodivergent, i was hesitant. all this to say, hearing emezi actually confirm that jam is neurodivergent literally made me almost cry. i just finished this book a little earlier today and i love it. emezi is such a brilliant writer and i will definitely be looking into their other works.
