I can tell you for a FACT that us fans have always felt like this. The problem is (and this is the 1 thing I'll give credit to snakes like Snake Z and that witch wife) they are good at marketing.
It happens all the time. These corporate idiots use media to try and convince you that the public majority feels one way about something. I'll give you a prime example. Beyonce is made out to be a huge deal in the U.S. when barely anybody knows her mid 2010s-now music (real sales vs. streams, etc. always pump her up as a bigger "artist" than she is).
They always highlight those weirdos who would do anything for her and worship her making her seem like a bigger deal. If you go outside the U.S., people will mainly go, "the one that used to be in that girl group and went solo in the 2000s?"
It's like that because they pay top dollar to be marketed that way. Jay Z been doing it to try and convince us that he's real and cares about certain things and he was just about business.
