And all those who are of a proud and devilish nature, “the seed of the serpent.” So the Almighty, addressing the serpent, says, “I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed.” In short, the whole image of Satan is secretly traced out there, with all its marks, characters, and properties. Speaking of Jesus, we read in Psalm 69:4, “Then I restored that which I took not away.” Only through the new birth can we be restored to the image of God. “For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren” (Romans 8:29).
