    Another thing about Vette ownership, everybody wants to race. When all you want to do is mind your own business and cruise along.

    Just picked up a ‘12 Grand Sport manual as a DD. He’s right about the ride stiffness on the standard or Z51 suspension, but Magnetic Ride Control plus swapping the OEM run flats for Michelin Pilot Sports is transformative in a C6. Ride is always composed and balanced at any speed. Add a Fill & Seal kit if you’re worried about a flat. Even in a non-MRC car, the tire swap makes a big difference on its own. We have a Miata and the Vette drives like a Mercedes by comparison. Don’t let the outrageous bodywork low slung look dissuade you. It’s a very civilized car and an absolute riot to own and drive. If you can live with two seats, go for it.

    A note on the cupholder; if you're driving a manual be careful going into 5th and 6th gear (and 3rd if you have very large hands) when you have a drink in either cup holder. It's really easy to bump.

    First thing I do when I buy my Corvettes is to remove the run flats . I carry fix a flat, portable air compressor, and tire plug kit.
    The run flats ride hard, make a racket when you drive,and don't handle like performance summer time tires do.

    THANK YOU KERM! You may not read this, but you’ve helped me enough for me to post this anyway. Just like I may not have seen your video, but you still posted it anyway. I’m 21, and have been working Valet for the last 18 months, and was a (technician) mechanic before that. I’ve been fortunate enough to drive almost every package (options), of every trim, of every model and I have to say. The C6 is one of, if not THE best value (Sports) car you can buy. They rarely have any major issues, the owners always love their car, and only speak good things. In conclusion, I must have one. I will have one. Maybe 2. Thanks again Kerm.

    I disagree with you with the run flats. They're more trouble then they are worth. And the transmission is at the rear axle, not where you said in the video. The heat is coming from the exhaust pipes directly underneath the center console.

    Great video. I daily drive my 2013 GS and I love it. Went from an F250 with 37” tires and 6 inch lift to my GS and it took a bit to get use too. I’m 6’ 220 lbs and you definitely “fall into it” and “crawl out”. That was probably the hardest part of making the change. Man I have two cell phones too 😂 I use a mount stand that works great. As for Polarized sunglasses, they don’t interfere with my navigation screen which stereo has all of the gadgets on it. I thought all GS had the navigation in 2013. I will say my GS doesn’t have the exhaust option of baffled or open. That sucks I’ll have to upgrade to get that rumble I want to hear. Tires I run run flays Michelin pilots in the front and Toyo 345 R888’s. I do agree on the run flats. I’m planning a trip to Texas and that’s my one concern. It would kill me being delayed and possibly stranded because of a flat. I do have a tire foam kit. But obviously if it’s a big slice that tire foam ain’t gonna do $hit. 🤞. The Toyos actually cost more than the run flats. So there. I paid more for the uncertainty. 😂🤣

    Great video, subscribed ! Love the GS , In about 4-5 years when i get close to retirement (I’m 55) looking to get a 2012-13 Low mileage, (preferably 1 owner) 6 speed manual, bone stoke (with optional exhaust that opens up) either 3LT or 2LT. I currently have a 2013 LExus ES350 daily driver ( not for work, i commute by express bus into NYC) with only 35k miles.. that baby will be with me forever until the wheels fall off (which will be never, with Lexus, Toyota highest reliability ). !!
    TBH,, i would leave that car alone, no mods are needed. Not trying to sound boring, but with 436 hp unless you’re tracking it, there’s no reason to mod it. You get the Z06 suspension, fatter wheels/tires, wider fenders and more aggressive look. The GS is the best all around bang for the buck and i cant wait until I find my ultimate sports car!
    Over the past 20-35 years I’ve owned 20 cars, of these, 3 were actual “sport cars” >>> 1986 Toyota MR2 5 speed manual (bought new in ‘86), 1996 Mustang GT 5 speed manual (bought new in ‘96), and 1992 Acura NSX 6 speed manual (bought used in 2005). Obviously These are not in the same league as a 2013 GS, but nevertheless I’m looking forward to GREAT 2012-13 GS !!

Sharp GS and GREAT VIDEO!...you would benifit with a tune on this car....both engine, and especially the trans...get rid of "Torque Management"...will make yours even more enjoyable...also makes more power, and more efficient...its a win win..if your close to KY, I have an amazing tuner..FYI..the transmission is in the rear..attached to the rear end....the console/tunnel is hot because of the exhaust routing, torque tube, and the belly shield that seals the heat all in..it this a 12 or 13..I spy mods..rear ZR1 wing and black GS fender badges

    I've got a 2010 LT3 6-speed triple Black convertible (1 of less than 190 in this configuration built in 2010). Its got 13,700 original miles. Original window sticker was ,$70,400. Best advice I can give is get it realigned as its set up from the factory for track mode driving. You'll get maybe 10,000-12,000 miles out of your tires. The fronts will wear on the inside tread pretty quickly. Do the Pfadt alignment!! And you'll get 20,000 - 25,000 out of a set. The Goodyear F1 Runflats are junk. Michelin Super Sports are much better, but will set you back about $2k.

    All C6 Corvettes have a removable Targa top or drop top,the only exception is a ZO6 or a ZR1. The scraping you hear is the lower air deflector or spoiler. GM knew it would scrape so it's cheap to replace and very flexible. I agree with pretty much all you said. Ya it's a sports car and friggen awesome to drive daily, it attracts a lot of attention for sure. Mine is a 11' 3 LT manual Crystal Red met 22 k it's stunning.

  • @kmcbride1832
    @kmcbride1832 3 года назад

    I've owned three C6 Corvettes: Z51 Coupe, Z06, and now a Base convertible. For daily purposes the base convertible is best as it is (surprisingly) the quietest with plenty of power for the street. Next, the base coupe but on the plus side has way more cargo area. 8 foot trim from HD? Two hockey bags and sticks? No problem. The Z06 was not the best for daily driving for the same reasons as the Grand Sport. It's the loudest due to its big tires that are also magnets for sharp objects (four flats in two years) and the booming large cargo area. Dynamat only marginally helps. The Z06's power made it a joy to drive on the freeway. You want to be up there? Press down for a second and you're there. On ramps? I lived for drifting on clover leafs. Just make sure that your wheels are straight before flooring it or you'll be directly looking at was once beside you. The biggest problem with BOTH the Z06 and GS is the front splitter as it ALWAYS drags, and not just on driveways. Even "crowned" intersections at moderate speeds have knocked the it off. I'll also add that for anybody thinking about a C7 Z06/Z07, I've found that the tremendous power, (a handful unless the tires were hot), very low front splitter plus limited visibility made for a fairly useless car. I only put about 3000 miles on mine in two years. It looked great though!!

      Manual snob? Is that a thing? When it comes to sports cars and driver engagement sure Ill be one of those. There's a reason why my c6 Zr1 was only available in a manual. An auto has its place depending on the platform. C6 Corvettes aren't one of them, but judging by your profile pic looks like you made that decision. To each there own!

    • @kingkobetha8th
      @kingkobetha8th 5 лет назад

      Of coarse I did you base model peasant...I said based on the platform. If you look at "enthusiast" cars and compare manual to auto demand and pricing you'll get your answer. Remember the enthusiast is a small fraction of the actual market. The rest are the masses, which is why more and more manufacturers are ditching manuals. There's nothing wrong with being a part of the masses.

    How many people here bought any generation Corvette (except C8) and had a salesperson who didn’t know that the transmission was in the Rear of the car connected with a Torque Tube to the behind the front axle engine ??
    My Chevy Authorized dealership has a salesman who he said has been in the business for 5 years and he had no idea that the tranny is in the rear. I asked him to point to the transmission and he points to the shifter😂😂😂. I said: Wrong, try again. He thought I was F’in with him. Wow, that intense Chevy training really paying off in spades. How can you sell a product and know nothing about it? The salespeople on the floor are just pawns anyway. This guy could not wipe his ass without asking for permission. Only took 3 visits and 15+ hours of my time to get the price even close to what it should have been. With this chip shortage, every damn dealership wants to hit a grand slam with every sale. Not with me they aren’t. Everyone should know that the markup on used cars is WAY HIGHER THAN ON NEW CARS. Your discount should reflect this huge markup. If a used car is selling for $30K bet your ass that the dealer didn’t pay much more than $15-$20K MAX. So they have $10-$15K profit built into that car. Again, your discount should reflect this huge markup. I’m ok with people making money on a deal. I’m in commission sales so I know a little bit about how the game is played but I don’t think a salesperson should be making $5K profit on your head. $1000 profit on a used car is fine. Less on a new car. So keep that in mind. These nitwits paying $25,000.00 OVER MSRP for a new C8 Corvette have way more money than brains!

    That is a beautiful vette, the interior is immaculate! Please keep the content coming. I'm looking at getting a C6 GS in the very near future. How do you like the drivability of the automatic? I love manual and actually have a manual truck. The vette would be a daily driver and I do 75 miles round trip 6 days a week for work, and a majority of that is in traffic. I'm afraid a stick would get really old really quick. What are your thoughts or opinions?

    • @accordingtokerm1158

      In your situation (in traffic) a manual would probably get really old really fast - just my opinion. Mine has paddle shift, which is honestly so-so, but there if I ever feel like controlling the gears. Either way, this is my second Corvette; they are amazing cars and you will not regret buying one! Thanks for the feedback.

    I see a few replys about the auto vs the manual transmission. Well if you decide to drag race your corvette against an equally powered car, the car with the auto trans will be the winner everytime. Facts are Facts

      That's actually not true. With the newer cars that have the 10 speed autos it is true. But older cars with the 4 or 6 speed autos, it's not always the case. manual cars had better gears and more HP to the wheels due to less drivetrain loss. With a really good driver the manual cars can edge out the autos in a drag race. With an average driver the auto will win most if the time because they are much easier to launch.
