In this video I show you how I convert colour images into black and white images with contrast, pop and drama using black and white adjustment layers, gradient maps, curves and levels in Adobe Photoshop

A short and sweet video that gives so much value to the audience. Sean always keeping us top-of-mind
Sean I really appreciate that you do all your tutorials in Photoshop instead of Lightroom because I can take what I’ve learned and apply it to other applications.
Your subtle yet effective approach is exactly the flow I admire and wish to utilize in developing my own style. Thank you for providing such tutorials.
Lots of little bits in here that totally blew my mind, excellent video and thank you Sean.

Excellent tutorial! So simply explained!
Thank you very much!!! I'm starting out in photography and I find editing quite complicated. Your tutorials are really good and help me a lot!
Excellent tutorial , so helpful. Thank you for sharing your expertise it is much appreciated.
I so appreciate how you break it all down & speak 'plain English' in your explanations! I've been applying the techniques from this series already!! And you convinced me to create my new website with Squarespace - thank you very much!
Thanks a lot, Sean. I don't have and don't work in PS, but I think I know where to find the corresponding tools in the editors I usually work with. Good to see how much more we can do with an image. As always, a big thank you for all your work and for sharing it with us.
Great series, Sean - really really helpful.
Well done Sean ,this guy gives so much back to us all
This is so helpful, thank you! I've been spending ages in LRC trying to get my B&W shots to have some 'feeling' to them (without success) but this tutorial has changed my editing process completely, just a few steps and my B&W images look amazing. Thank you Sean.
Nice one Sean, really appreciate this series.
Thank you Sean, big fan
thank you sean! helps a lot!
Been using the filters in Silver Efex for years. I used to help produce the image as I envisioned it. As far as b&w film, I have always been partial to Tri-X and still use on occasion today.
You did a nice job detailing your procedure as the comments indicate.
Thank you, Sean! x
Really good video Sean, very informative, thank you!
Great process, some of which I hadn't heard about. Thank you very much!

+1
That must be fake/scam account 🤔 do not reply anything to it
Masterclass
Thanks so much Sean! Brilliant like always. As someone who has been practicing for a while but am still not content with where I am in my own portraiture I would love to see a video from you about angle of light and light placement. With one light and a modifier and possible two lights. I love how you place the rim light right across the cheek. I know you are busy but just an idea. Thanks so much for everything you do.
He has already done a video about light placement about a year ago (when he was still in London).
@@tititatiti I've watched his One Light speed light video many times. What's the name of the video you are talking about? Thanks
@@Ronniealdo Hi Ronnie, in his video "How to shoot film portraits at home" he talks about flash light, diffusers etc. Hope that helps!
You can also check his video "Balancing sunlight and strobe".
Thanks!
Thanks for the support my friend
Excellent video
amazing!! can u do a black and white wildlife like lions or elephants with harsh background? thanks
Very useful direction, I use LR and will be able to use some of this knowledge there.
Excellent video Sean. I find it interesting that Lightroom's black and white conversion has sliders for 8 colors rather than the 5 in Photoshop. I figured that they would be the same.
Light architect indeed!
I was using Camera raw to do black and white. It was much easier for me. I can't wait to try and see the difference if done this way. Thank you!
Thank you
awesome
thank you so much for this tutorial. I wonder. Would this also apply to product photography? Didn't realised, how important is to plan which colours to use. Before taking black and white pictures.
Nice tutorial Im getting much better with my editing as a new photographer. Im curious to know what to do if the highlights are already blow out when adding the levels layer.
Hello Sean. Great video as usual. Just a quick question since idk when I'll be able to check it myself. If we use a gradient filter on a coloured photo, and then blend it for luminosity, will it work to bring up some contrast? I really liked what it did to the b&w image.

Thank you Sean another very informative video love the way you present the topics you cover.
GREAT GREAT GREAT!!!!!
Awesome turorial! Would you do this edit differently on Lightroom?
Thank you.....
So very useful, Sean. Does the technique also apply to architectural B&W?
Well I'll be ..I just had an advert for an idea / course such as this but...that one was for an enormous amount and this one is free (!!) but probably not with the same quality (that advert :)).. So I'm off re-listening and re-doing ..Thank you Sean !
I came running Sean 🏃♂️
I doff my hat sir and wish you well.
It’s a great time to be alive. :)
I am so appreciative for this entire series, because I really love photography but hate the post-editing process due to the software complexity that felt unnecesarily too elaborate and took away from my enjoyment of digital photography. So I really appreciate the clarity and simplicity in how you broke down the steps for a normal-person out there. Many thanks :)
Hi Sean, how can i get the b&w photoshop gradient preset? i dont see it.
What can you do with the eyes Sean - they look quite dark and souless in this method
👍👍
Sean, I admire your photography and videos a lot, however I liked the image that you started with ie. desaturated BW , more than the one we got to later, which I felt was a bit too dark.
I think he more so showed the tools he uses rather than going for a final image. In most cases youd probably work with masks etc. Turning down the reds for exampel did make the lips a bit to dark. Also, the eyes got a bit lost in the shadows. Two easy things to control with masks. Take your hands and cover the faces on the side by side, look at the hair, forehead, shirt and background. Do you still like the first one better? Maybe.
👀🌹
Sean ... could you talk about Black and White but for video? Thanks.
