  • Holiday Inn was a family vacation lodge on the shores of Lake Kashagawigamog, near Haliburton Ontario. It was owned and operated by Ray & Marion Arntfield from 1950 until the early 1970s when Marion sold the property. After that it continued through the 1970s under new ownership and a new name: Hunter's Horn.
Holiday Inn was one of a number of vacation lodges on Lake Kashagawigamog, including Halimar and Bonnyview. These lodges attracted guests from all over Ontario and the north eastern United States.
This promotional film was created by Ray & Marion in 1957.

Not only did my family vacation there but I also spent 3 summers working here. Met my hubby there too. Lovely memories. Thank you.

Had a family cottage in Halliburton back in the 80’s. Crazy to think how many generations have gone up there. Beautiful area. How time does fly. 🥹

My parents took us there every summer from approximately 1952 to 1962. I recall becoming pals with an Arntfield boy approximately my age. I think his name was Peter. I remember creating some kind of mischief with him (but I can't recall exactly what) that caused me to be marched into the office in the lodge by my parents to apologize to Ray & Marion. They were wonderful times.

Just wondering if the golf course that is mentioned, is the current Haliburton Highlands Golf Course? Great video!
Oops, I just needed to wait long enough to get to the golf course portion of the video.

Yes the course on the Holiday Inn property was a short nine hole. More of a practice course. The Highlands course was down the road.

I just drove by the site today. I stopped at Bonnie View, whose owner pointed out where Holiday Inn used to be. The property is pretty much disappeared, at least from the Lake Kashagawigamog Road, as trees have grown up. The only remaining building was a barn, used for maintenance. Three or four cottages have been build on the Inn grounds. I slipped onto one of those properties and looking along the shore, recognized the point where the weiner roasts used to be held. My family went to HI roughly every other year from 1953 to 1966 and in the summer of 1966, I worked there as a waiter. Best summer job ever. I went back that Thanksgiving to wait tables and go up to Huntsville to hear the Hollies. Many, many fond memories of the place. Only Bonnie View and Chateau Woodland remain. Halimar is now a hockey camp, the owner at Bonnie View said. She remembered Bruce Henry from Halimar, who drove the water ski boat and always wore one red and one green sock. Always a hunting knife by his side, too.

Peter Arntfield was about my age and he and I shared a cabin with a guy from Toronto (Earl Haig Collegiate) the year I worked there.

@@karendadd483 no the main lodge was torn down in 1990. Some of the lakefront property was sold in the 1980s and cottages were built. But a few of the buildings still exist, I believe. It was never redeveloped after my grandfather died and my step-grandmother eventually sold it.
