@cherryblossom7211 Yes! And he wrote the melody, so catchy💜💜💜. BSTs was Jimin's era. This video, On and Black Swan got me into BTS. Have not looked back💜💜💜
This MV has a lot of symbolism. It's all about temptation and losing innocence. It's based on the book Demian from Herman Hesse. The quote above the mirror is in German and translates One must still have chaos on oneself to be able to give birth to a star.
and individuation. It's in it's essence about growing up which means accepting bith the good and the bad as both is part of being an adult independent of the protection your parents offered you before.
When this came out, we went crazy! Everything means something! The statues, paintings, the green drink, the German writing above the mirror, the flowers on the mantle, etc... This also fits into the BU (Bangtan Universe) a fictional story that runs through a lot of BTS MVs that started in 2015. ARMY from all over the world worked on figuring out the story. We used to have Theory Thursdays where we met online and talked about our research into mythology, constellations, classic books, religious symbollism, the meaning of flowers, etc... It was a fun time. 💜
It oozes with symbolism for sure. Clearly our reactions are based off what we see without all the context behind it. We are definitely aware that there are always deliberate meanings behind a lot of their songs and music videos. We love learning new things about these guys.
Please delve into the meaning behind all the symbolism in this song. There’s so much to unpack here. I know ARMY will let you know sooner or later. This is the song that made me an ARMY after I understood what’s it really about. More power to your channel.
The overarching theme of the book “Demian” by my understanding is that growth is achieved by understanding that everyone has both dark and light sides, and accepting one’s own dark side. So temptation is a strong theme here. The explanation video will be what truly brings you to “blown away” when it comes to this video. Everything in it is intentional. SO much symbolism.
You must watch the explanation video for this one as there is all kinds of hidden meanings and they explain them all very well. There’s also a behind the scenes video.
I remember seeing this MV for the 1st time and being blown away. My mind barely had time to register how someone (Jimin) could look so cherubic but at the same time so seductive, when he started to sing with such a unique voice. Then RM, V, Jin, Suga, Jhope and JK added to the increadible experience. 10 out of 10.
The dance practice for this video and song was what originally got me into the Fandom. That was early 2019, never looked back. This song and video will always be my special one. Glad y'all watched it!! Many more to go. Lol
Love both of you, your vibe is cheerful and adorable. This was a nice reaction, but you were sort of lost😊 Jimin, aka the platinum gray haired guy, wrote the melody for the song. This song is symbolic and based on the book Demian by Herman Hesse. It is about the loss of innocence, the transition from boy to adulthood. The draw and pull of temptation and the inability to extract self from it. It is also about the eventual realization of self and the journey to discovering the real you, dark and good. The choices for good, you make that helps you become a more balanced person.
This whole album Wings, is based on the book Demian. You may want to read that book if you want to delve into this. This song and video are pretty much about temptation in all its forms. Their songs, if you think it's about a relationship, are just the shallow look to it. It's always much deeper 😅 Except for their School Trilogy and Dark and Wild album - if it's about a relationship in those songs, then it is. They got super deep when they got to their youth trilogy, and it just continued on from there.
This video was my introduction to BTS, early in 2017. It popped up as a recommendation. My degree is in Fine Art and History of Art, I’d read Demian when I was fairly young and I knew a bit about Jung and Nietzsche, so it felt like coming home. I started listening to music when the Beatles were still together but this was the first time I really felt like someone was making songs for me… then, through this I discovered Yoongi and truly fell in love with music that spoke directly to my heart (‘The Last’ hit me like a train).
“Someone was making songs for me” - Yes, yes, yes! That is exactly it. Thank you for putting that sentiment into words. My “pay attention” one was Fake Love and the first “speak to my heart” ones were Lie and The Truth Untold. And pretty much anything written by Namjoon or Yoongi (The Last & that Amygdala MV… truck indeed).
BTS ‘s videos are intriguing and inspire viewers to delve into their deeper meanings. Their intellectualism is inspired by literature, psychology, art, philosophy and more. There is always much more than meets the eye, including a supernatural storyline that runs through their music and videos. Definitely thought provoking musicians, never superficial. And we admire them for it!
One of the things of BTS "biggerness😅" (is that a word?) Is that we have chance to see 15-20yrs old raw talent teens to grow to fine young men and their talent and music growing with them. First they singed school-life coz that was what they go through, then boys grows and they face more mature things and that we can allso see and hear in their songs... 💜
You are right, the video is great, the production and everything as usual, they are just awesome in every way. Not to mention the bit and choreo... BUT the meaning is never that simple as a traditional relationship. BTS is known for more sophisticated lyrics and this song is no exception... thanks for reacting!!
There is almost always a behind the scene video put out by the agency and often an "explanation" video (fanmade) detailing how the song relates to the topic (a channel called Bookish Theories has some great ones), or literature that was referenced in a song, or sometimes how it relates to the fictional storyline that runs through much of their discography. BTS material is never surface level stuff (except for the 3 english language songs put out during Covid which were solely meant to be light hearted in a dark time for everyone-Dynamite, Butter and Permission To Dance). Thanks for reacting.
Demian was published in 1939 by Hermann Hesse, as others have said. He was influenced by Karl Jung, the words above the fireplace are Nietsche. The part with the balloon and RM reading is directly from Demian. The painting is The Fall of the Rebel Angels, by Pieter Bruegel the Elder around 1583, the beginning of the Renaissance. Each boy represents a struggle with some kind of temptation/evil. These are the same challenges faced by the young man in the novel in his journey into the world. The figure at the end (can't remember the name) represents both good and evil. What will he choose? Symbolism abounds, from the pattern on the floor to the released arrow. It's no accident that moremoremore sounds like moneymoneymoney. BTS's genius lyricist is full of these tricks in many songs. Translations are sometimes inadequate.,This set is partly an old temple but mostly built. I always look for your reactions and I'm glad you found this masterpiece!
There is a Japanese version with its own MV which adds to the symbolism of everything. BTS songs is always deeper than meets the eye. You need to read a long piece on the web as well as watch multiple explanation videos to catch all the symbolism used in the mvs. Its mind blowing but worth it. This is one of the stuffs they do that cement them as an intellectual person's bands and thats why BTS has so many mature fans from professional professions.
Just know that pretty much everything in BTS videos is deliberate which is why explanation videos are very helpful. This particular video is based on the Herman Hesse book entitled “Demian”. It’s about temptation. I love this MV because of all the incredibly detailed literary, philosophical and artistic references. I think one can get smarter just by watching BTS, 😄💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
It's about growing up: individuation. Temptation is part of it. Sure. But to become an adult you need to embrace both the world of light and the world of temptation/dark. You are no longer a child protected from the real world by - ideally - your parents.
It's OK to be confused by BS&T - I still am, despite doing lots of 'research' (though I am NOT willing to read Demian, sorry!) I suspect that even after watching several 'explanation videos' few people fully understand all the symbolism and meanings here. It is a very dark book, and this song reflects that, but the sheer artistry of all that this video encompasses is amazing, and it really pulls you in - not unlike Demian himself! So : pretty appropriate ...
Bookish Theories does the best explanation video for this. Trust us, you need to learn about the symbolism. And that’s why this is nothing like Michael Jackson. 🙄 This is a tough MV for newbies to grasp. 🫰🏻
The book by Hermann Hesse? No. (It's also not that big either - less than 200 pages in German) It's a book about growing up under aspects of the philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche and the psychologist Carl Jung: Independent of dictate of a earthy or celestial ruler to become oneself: Individuation. Nietzsche famously said "God is dead." for a reason. This isn't supposed to be about moral, not really.
Loved your reaction. As many Army have said, watch an explanation video. So much symbolism. For instance in the museum room with statue and paintings at the beginning, on the left one door is black and the other on the right is white. A more experience Army will need to help on this one. Glad y'all are deviling into BTS more symbolic/ deep stuff. Enjoy the journey. Blessings
thank you so much for this reaction. Need to be in mind that this MV has 7 yo. It is amazing the level and the intensity of their concepts. Because nowadays it is pretty normal but not when they release this songs. Blood, sweat and Tears was the song that made me became an ARMY. Demian, the book that inspire Wings album and this song is my favourite one since I was 19 yo. I am 46 right now.
The video for "Blood, Sweat & Tears" is stuffed with carefully chosen references. For example, the paintings are specific works that were chosen on purpose. One of them has a quote from Nietzsche above it; it's relevant. The use of Michelangelo's Pieta is not an accident. The appearance of the green drink deliberately suggests absinthe. The video is enjoyable without digging into all of that, but it's there if you want to know. The video for "Black Swan" is similarly dense with meaning. The official music video for "ON" (which is completely different from the Kinetic Manifesto video) is too. BTS are consummate craftsmen; if you learn enough about them, you realize that the props they use, the costumes they wear, the settings, the camera angles, the set dressing - all of it is meticulously planned by them, their company, their video director, and their production team to convey meaning to the viewer. People are still finding previously unnoticed details in the video for "The Astronaut" (a solo release from member Jin). Watch "Love Wins All." It's not BTS, although a member of BTS appears in it as an actor. It's the video for a song from IU. IU is a massive star; she's basically the Taylor Swift of Korea. She's an actor as well. The video for "Love Wins All" was directed by a Korean film director named Um Tae Hwa, who directed a 2023 film called Concrete Utopia (100% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, but not certified because it doesn't have the threshold number of qualified reviews). The video for "Love Wins All" is five minutes of incredibly tight storytelling, spectacular cinematography, polished production, and emotional devastation. Western recording artists in 2024 who aren't Beyonce often just film themselves on stage or looking moody on funky sets in elaborate costumes. Hardly anyone is making stuff like Michael Jackson's "Bad" anymore. That was directed by Martin Scorsese. David Fincher directed Madonna's "Express Yourself" video and that thing cost about $11 million in adjusted dollars. BTS are idols, not simply recording artists - an idol is something uniquely Korean for which we really don't have an exact analog - and Korean idols produce videos that make a lot of Western music videos look like somebody filming a school recital on an iPhone. "Blood, Sweat & Tears" is just one example of that level of production.
Welcome to the climax of the BU (BTS Universe). This universe spans years and albums, and there is just so much to delve into. One cannot simply explain BS&T in one sentence.
The explanation video for this MV is made by a channel called Dont worry im not afraid and its called " blood sweat and tears what does it all mean?" The WINGS album is based on the short novel demian written by herman hesse based on jungian ideas. The song is basically about growing into adulthood and coming across temptation. It uses a lot of reference to the novel and several artworks to do this. The genre of this song is moombathon
This has a great behind the scenes video! This and Fake Love are my favorite in terms of video production and storytelling, both have great behind the scenes video.
Wow! Impressive, huh?! From the beginning, Jin stands between white and black doors and has to make a choice, but you don't have to understand all the symbolism to appreciate the artistry in this MV.
Do you remember in college how every philosophy student has their German Existential phase? This is RM's/BTS phase including quotes from Herman Hesse. The visuals remind me more of Steppenwolf than Demian, but who am I to quibble when it got millions of ARMY to GOOGLE it!
The musical beat you are curious about is from a style of music called moombahton. BST references the novel Demian by Herman Hesse about a young boy growing up which in turn has many references to Carl Jung’s work on archetypes. BTS musical style is incredibly diverse and influenced by so many things. Their music from their beginning has a strong compelling narrative. If you read the lyrics translations and notes by doolset ( legend ARMY translator) you can really appreciate their genius & how they resonate & transcend the language barrier
described as a hybrid of moombahton, trap, and tropical house influenced by dancehall and reggaeton. It is basically about the temptations one has to face in life..thanks as always.
I love "Blood Sweat & Tears" . The translation over the mirror is " You have to have chaos in you , to be able to give birth to a dancing star" a Quote from "Thus Spoke Zarathustra" from Friedrich Nietzsche💜💜💜💜💜💜💜 .
Interpretation for BST 💜 BTS has stated many times that their WINGS concept is based on youth/boys falling into temptation and losing their innocence. In WINGS/Blood Sweat & Tears, we will witness their fall & one interpretation of the different ways adulthood tempts the freshly matured. The video opens with everyone walking into the museum together, but everyone is paired up: J-Hope with V, Suga with Jimin, RM with Jungkook. There are 7 members in BTS so the odd one out is Jin, who is seen walking away from everyone and towards a painting. Jin looks at the painting, titled The Fall of the Rebel Angels by Pieter Bruegel. We know that the angels of heaven fell because of direct rebellion against God by siding with Lucifer, who corrupted the angels by sinful temptations. This is a foreshadowing of the future events to come. Jin is the center focus of the music video and is the key symbol of tempted youth (which is ironic because he’s the oldest in BTS!) The next painting is seen behind Jungkook, who is dangling from a swing. It is The Lament of Icarus by Herbert James Draper. The story of Icarus is marked by its famous representation of a naïve boy whose innocent curiosity is his fatal flaw. He is given a pair of wax-held wings by his father Daedalus (an inventor/scientist) to fly, but he ignores his father’s warning to stay away from the Sun. He ultimately flies too close to the Sun and the wax holding his wings together melts, destroying his wings and leading to Icarus falling into the ocean below and drowning. RM is the one who melts the candle from which Jungkook licks the melted wax from. In the myth, although it is Icarus’ own ignorance that leads to his death, it is his father Daedalus who gives him the option of flying in the first place. So RM would represent Daedaelus and Jungkook can be interpreted as Icarus. And then, J-Hope in front of Michelangelo’s Pieta, which shows the Virgin Mary holding the dead body of Jesus Christ following his crucifixion and removal from the cross. If you’ve listened to the Wings album you know that J-Hope’s solo song is titled “Mama” and is about his mom (there are also ties here to Demian). Later on, all of the members are seen gathering at a table in what reminds me of The Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci anyways, they’re seen all with a single apple on their plate. The apple is a famous symbol of sin in the biblical story of Adam and Eve where Eve eats the forbidden fruit from the Garden of Eden. Given that the apple is on their plate and they’re ready to eat, it is hinted that they’re all ready to commit to the sins of adulthood together by eating the apple together. Here we see more of the relationship between Jimin and Suga. Again, the apple is used as a symbol of sin and it will be used more later on. We have V sitting on the ledge of a balcony (where he was seen in the beginning sitting at and looking up and down) and he looks back at you, cracks a mischievous grin, and jumps willingly. And in front of him is a big painting: Landscape with the Fall of Icarus, also by Bruegel. The painting shows the spectacular scenery of the sea, but when you look closely, you can see that there are a pair of legs struggling in the sea on the bottom right hand corner. That’s supposed to be Icarus after he falls. Throughout this video Jin has looked pretty conflicted; if you recall the beginning when he’s looking at the painting, he’s got a focused look as well as confused. Like he doesn’t really know why he’s drawn to it but he is. And remember when he was at the dinner table with everyone but he gets distracted by something? This struggle is resolved with this scene of Jin and his balloon. The balloon represents his innocent youth; he’s quite literally holding on to it. He’s not sure if he wants to let go. Then, later on, during the cut with RM’s narration, we see that Jin has finally let go of the balloon. The balloon is already out of frame when he reaches up towards it, possibly regretting his choice. Suga plays the organ and it is seen that all the boys in their respective pairs exit the museum, except Jin has stayed behind and V has noticed. Jin seems to be looking at/for something, and V shows up with yet another playful look and covers his eyes. When V removes his hands and Jin opens his eyes, a mysterious statue with large, black wings has appeared and looks like it’s ready to take off. So in the end, V, who’s been kind of elusive in the story, is revealed to have scars where wings are supposed to be. I believe this statue is V. The way the scenes support this theory, because as the cloth covering V is revealed Jin is approaching the statue, and as he kisses the statue the figure under the cloth with the scars on his back is revealed to be V. A kiss often means the sealing of a contract; this means that Jin has officially fallen and “signed a contract” with V the fallen angel and has lost his innocence. The correlation is pretty strong here. Given all of the biblical references and the way V jumps off the ledge earlier supports the idea that V is, indeed, the fallen angel that tempts Jin. V has turned his back quite literally and has also figuratively turned his back on Jin, who did not suspect V to be a tempter.
Aaah, Blod Sweat and tears ! All the discography of BTS is meaningful, because through their albums, they share their growth, thoughts, and history, their own journey in life. But, using books, thinkers, art, poetry, psychiatrist concepts, they transcended their personal storylife and struggles and made them universal, relatable for everybody, sharing powerful social AND personal messages. And that's why they are so huge and popular, it goes far beyond the music, they touched people heart and give them hope. There's a lot going in each MV, so it can be overwhelming. But the most you read the lyric and the deeper you dive in the hidden meaning of each song. Blood Sweet and tears take part of the Wings album/era, deeply based on a book : Demian, by Herman Hesse. It's about temptation, loosing innocence... recognize and embrace you dark side in order to grow, and extend your wings. The MV is full of symbols, you can chek some explanation video later. Just a quick glimpse : Emil Sinclair is the protagonist of the novel. Sinclair is confused as to what his life is, and is going to be, and constantly seeks mentorship throughout the novel. He tends to need validation by an older figure, and finds mentors in figures such as Pistorius, Demian, and Eva. Pistorius is an organist (aka Suga in the MV) ; Demian is a childhood friend and a mentor of Sinclair. Demian leads Sinclair to his eventual self-realization, and may be considered Emil's daemon. (probably V , as a falling angel, in the MV) . One of the major themes is the existence of opposing forces and the idea that both are necessary. It's about the growth, the loss of innocence , the temptations, and stop covering your eyes to discover the reality and the world as it is. (and yourself ) Demian is replete with both Jungian archetypes and Jungian symbolism ( As a sidenote, Hermann Hesse, the author of Demian was a friend and patient of Carl Jung, who inspired both Map of the Soul albums). . The statue with black wings that Jin kiss is the God Abraxas : The Gnostic deity Abraxas is used as a symbol throughout the text, idealizing the interdependence of all that is good and evil in the world. Demian argues that Jehovah, the Jewish God, is only one face of God; it rules over all that is wholesome, but there is another half of the world, and an infinite god must encompass both sides of this world. All the purpose of the song is : you have to embrace your dark side to fully became yourself. "One must still have chaos in oneself to be able to give birth to a dancing star., this is the quote you see in german above the mirror, from Nietzche.
Some explanation video by "Don't worry I'm not afraid": ruclips.net/video/5tlgAUE6yjg/видео.html ;By Xceleste : ruclips.net/video/VsJxiPzi4K8/видео.html; By Suga and Spice ruclips.net/video/3NuxHwXcAZw/видео.html
This is the music which introduced me to bts. I watched first time their performance video of this music ..and got into bts and my journey begins as army....thankyou for reminding me of this again. Please watch the explanation video of this as well to get more about this.
The levels of symbology and veiled references in this one are mindblowing. I'd highly recommend both an explained and a watch of the behind scenes filming. It's a very elaborate piece of artwork from our guys.
i love love loveee your reactions!!! i can’t wait to see where this dive into BTS takes us!! i would recommend looking into their more "unknown” songs there are so many hidden gems and their dance practices show their talent on a different level
The song as well as the whole album WINGS is based on Hermann Hesse's novel DEMIAN (under the pseudonym of the main character in the book Emil Sinclair). A coming of age story where Emil Sinclair yields to temptation seduced by various characters, especially Demian. RM quotes from the book: "He, too, was a tempter; he, too, was a link to the second [world], the evil world with which I no longer wanted to have anything to do." referring to Demian in the book. Also above the mirror there is a quote by Nietzsche in German: "Man muss noch Chaos in sich tragen, um einen tanzenden Stern gebären zu können." (One must still have chaos in oneself to be able to give birth to a dancing star) The imagery is heavily influenced by the whole book, one character, Pistorius, is an organ player, then there is this hybrid semi devil/angel deity called Abraxas and so on. It's very interesting, esp. for the time it was written - 1919 (first published in English in 1923). It is definitely worth looking into the videos that try to explain this.
He doesn't "yield to temptation": He grows up leaving the dictate of parents, earthly and celestial rules behind to find himself as a person: individuation. You forget that the members are not actually religious despite some of the symbolism. It's the old question: "Who Am I?"
@@sc0ttishlass And they leave neither through the white nor the black door. Try "Don't Worry I'm Not Afraid". People concentrate too much on "sin" - when the creators of both the book and this song have little interest in that. Jin kisses the statue - embracing both worlds - for a reason. He is traveling the path of individuation. It's actually pretty interesting when you listen to the quotes that are in the short films back to back. It's about becoming and temptation is part of that but not the end goal.
Leave it to BTS …. In a song based on the novel Demian by Herman Hesse They manage to add 1 a Bach mass 2 buxtehude’s passacaglia in D 3 the myth of Icarus 4. A quote from nietsche 5. The theory of personality of psychiatrist Carl Jung 6.the god abraxus 7. A survey course in Greco-Roman sculpture 8. A survey course in Western European painting 9. Possible absinthe poisoning That’s why we love them lol 💜🇨🇦
I’ve absolutely been loving you guys’ reactions. You guys seem like such genuine people. Also the gentleman on the right (I’m sorry I missed his name) is such a joy to watch, he always seems so excited and happy it’s infectious. Thank you guys for these! Since I discovered your channel I never miss a single video.
Awe, thank you so much! Your comments floored us! We’re so grateful there are people like you, who are really enjoying our goofiness, because, we try to provide a little light in this dark world. If you have a smile after watching, then we’re doing our job! 💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕
Would love to see you react to Idol and Mic Drop. Totally fine with pauses in the video because I watch your reactions to hear from you! Also, would be fun to see you watch the videos behind the scenes of filming the MV. Bangtan Subs channel has older BTS videos with English subs. I personally love to see the contrast between the polished images of the final and the goofiness that can happen behind the scenes with BTS. So fun to see another of your reactions posted so quickly. 💜
2016, this song got me, and I'm forever in the rabbit hole 😂 please do a dive into the meaning of the song. It will surprise you how deep this song is. 💜💜💜🤟🇺🇸💜💜💜💜
This was a great reaction, I thought you'd enjoy this one! I still highly recommend reacting to the series of short films they made leading up to this video, I think they're some of the best stuff put out by a pop artist in the last decade, and add to the overarching storyline they were telling from 2015-2019. Each video is titled 'Wings Short Film' + the title: 1 Begin 2 Lie 3 Stigma 4 First Love 5 Reflection 6 Mama 7 Awake (I also highly recommend the music video for the Japanese version of Blood Sweat & Tears, it's an important companion piece for this one. Unfortunately you can't react to it since the Japanese distributor is strict about that, don't want you to get flagged! But it's worth a watch in your own time.)
Yes I agree, you should watch the explanation behind the meaning... The basic concept has to do with the book Damien by Herman Hesse.. This is about temptation and the loss of innocence.. So many references, the painting Jim stands in front of us the rebellion of fallen angels, there's 2 doors one black and one white, the painting that JK hangs under is the Fall of Icharus and you can see the feathers floating down, the statue Jin kisses is the god Abraxus, which is the god of good and evil
You MUST react to Spring Day by BTS! But caution: When you react to it, you will also want to watch Italian Army's explanation video breaking down the meanings behind the MV. It addresses a heavy and serious topic, so you'll want to see the explanation too.
When watching a MV by BTS …. We know everything means something… they are not lazy ! It is like a puzzle that they have made for us to figure out what we get out of it! Sigh… i miss them..😢
That's (copy not the real painting) of the Fall of Lucifier the battle of Heaven were Lucifier and his followers are thrown out of heaven. Every thing in this MV is contented to temptation, growing up, lose of innocence. Heavily based in the classic Book Demian by the Hermann Hesse and is also the thinker Friedrich Nietzsche. They use works of art like the painting and there's another huge one of the 'Lamante of Icrus' which is hints at the sin of pride because is was too full of his pride that he forgot to listen to his father and flew too close to the sun resulting in damage to his wings causing his death by crashing back to earth.
You guys there are mv's that e ain't their storyline of each album and songs. Just look them up. This song is about success taking away your innocence and success pulling you in
The beat is moombahton which is a variation of electronic dance music/reggaeton and was heard a lot in clubs. It really is a different feel for BTS and obviously the song is beloved by ARMY. There is a good behind the scenes vid if you guys are interested. 💜
Thank you guys for your alwsys kind reactions. It's okay if you don't go deep into all the meanings of a song. Unlike some ARMY'S i do understand that some people just like the music and the video and the look of the guys and dancing. Some people don't want to go into all the symbolism and know all the details. To me, that's okay. Just listen and enjoy and come to know what You want to know. 😂I'm a 64yr old grandmaw thats been with our guys since around 2015 or early 2016....so yea, i know its not for everybody. But i hope you can enjoy the music and stage presence of our guys. 🫰💜💜💜 🫰💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
I highly recommend you to watch the explanation video so you can fully appreciate the meaning and work they put into this mv. You would be simply mind blown!
There is a behind the scenes video, however, I also suggest you watch an explanation video for this mv and for me the best explanation is by Don’t Worry I’m Not Afraid channel. Without watching it you can never understand how in-depth the BTS members intelligence, creativity, and the sources of inspiration they delve into internally and externally.
One of my all time favorite songs ever!!! I listen to it on repeat often. Usually blaring in my car to and from work, it annoys my children and husband! This song is based on Hermann Hesse novel Demian. It's about addictive love and temptation. Should definitely check out the behind the scenes making of this. Loved your reactions! 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Jimin's iconic intro is everything 💞
@cherryblossom7211 Yes! And he wrote the melody, so catchy💜💜💜. BSTs was Jimin's era. This video, On and Black Swan got me into BTS. Have not looked back💜💜💜
@@amytakiguchi4390 sadly not credited for it
@sariel8406 I know right. At least we got to find out when, I think Jin mentioned it.
Yes
Jimin ❤jimin❤jimin
I'd recommend reacting to BTS Blood Sweat and Tears Explained
agree, you'll never get all RM's clever lyrics, or the hints in each scene without it unless you read Jung, the book Damien, or Nitscki. ( sp).
Yes, that would be amazing.
Jimin..❤

Jimin made the melody
Their choreographies are so perfect that if you look when they jump, they all jump at the same height, which is very difficult. 😰💜🫰

We're definitely going to have to dive into the explanation of this. lol.
This was a nice reaction, but you were sort of lost😊
Jimin, aka the platinum gray haired guy, wrote the melody for the song.
It's always much deeper 😅
Except for their School Trilogy and Dark and Wild album - if it's about a relationship in those songs, then it is.
JIMIN i miss you very much 😢
This one has so much symbolism that you should check out an explanation video. A bit mind blowing.
We're going to have to. :)
"Blood Sweat and Tears explained by a Korean" by DKDKTV ..............and I say it is like Reggaeton music
You are right, the video is great, the production and everything as usual, they are just awesome in every way. Not to mention the bit and choreo... BUT the meaning is never that simple as a traditional relationship. BTS is known for more sophisticated lyrics and this song is no exception... thanks for reacting!!
Wow, thank you!🙏🏼
There is almost always a behind the scene video put out by the agency and often an "explanation" video (fanmade) detailing how the song relates to the topic (a channel called Bookish Theories has some great ones), or literature that was referenced in a song, or sometimes how it relates to the fictional storyline that runs through much of their discography. BTS material is never surface level stuff (except for the 3 english language songs put out during Covid which were solely meant to be light hearted in a dark time for everyone-Dynamite, Butter and Permission To Dance). Thanks for reacting.
Except this is more along the story of the book "Demian".
So "Don't Worry I'm not Afraid" may help more.
@@ruthfischer7615 Yes, that's why I mentioned literature
The figure at the end - Abraxas.
There is a Japanese version with its own MV which adds to the symbolism of everything. BTS songs is always deeper than meets the eye. You need to read a long piece on the web as well as watch multiple explanation videos to catch all the symbolism used in the mvs. Its mind blowing but worth it. This is one of the stuffs they do that cement them as an intellectual person's bands and thats why BTS has so many mature fans from professional professions.
omg cant wait for you guys to delve deeper and know the meaning
Just know that pretty much everything in BTS videos is deliberate which is why explanation videos are very helpful. This particular video is based on the Herman Hesse book entitled “Demian”. It’s about temptation. I love this MV because of all the incredibly detailed literary, philosophical and artistic references. I think one can get smarter just by watching BTS, 😄💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Slight correction. The book title is “Demian” (not “Damian”). 🙂
It's about growing up: individuation.
Temptation is part of it. Sure.
But to become an adult you need to embrace both the world of light and the world of temptation/dark.
You are no longer a child protected from the real world by - ideally - your parents.
@@OT7_DopeOldARMY thx for the heads’ up; I’ve corrected it! See, I just got smarter!
I loved Demian. I didn’t think it was dark at all.
Bookish Theories does the best explanation video for this. Trust us, you need to learn about the symbolism. And that’s why this is nothing like Michael Jackson. 🙄 This is a tough MV for newbies to grasp. 🫰🏻
The book by Hermann Hesse?
No. (It's also not that big either - less than 200 pages in German)
It's a book about growing up under aspects of the philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche and the psychologist Carl Jung:
Independent of dictate of a earthy or celestial ruler to become oneself:
Individuation.
Nietzsche famously said "God is dead." for a reason. This isn't supposed to be about moral, not really.
@@MarilynPF - no need for the eye roll, lol. They were clearly referring to the dancing, specifically the crotch grab.
This video introduce me to BTS and I'M ARMY since 2019, I love them so mucho, BTS for ever💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Look at Blood, Sweat, and tears choreography practice. Their unison is remarkable!
Welcome to the climax of the BU (BTS Universe). This universe spans years and albums, and there is just so much to delve into. One cannot simply explain BS&T in one sentence.
The explanation video for this MV is made by a channel called Dont worry im not afraid and its called " blood sweat and tears what does it all mean?"
The WINGS album is based on the short novel demian written by herman hesse based on jungian ideas.
The song is basically about growing into adulthood and coming across temptation.
It uses a lot of reference to the novel and several artworks to do this.
The genre of this song is moombathon
That channel name has me cracking up! 😂😂
And he chooses both - because we are not talking about a fairytale but real life.
This is the path to individuation.
A story behind a story behind a story. Temptation. They always surprise and amaze you with their talent and creativity.
EVERYTHING BTS DOES HAS A DEEP, DEEP MEANING! Coming back for ALL BTS! Thanks guys.
I love "Blood Sweat & Tears" . The translation over the mirror is " You have to have chaos in you , to be able to give birth to a dancing star" a Quote from "Thus Spoke Zarathustra" from Friedrich Nietzsche💜💜💜💜💜💜💜 .
Interpretation for BST 💜
BTS has stated many times that their WINGS concept is based on youth/boys falling into temptation and losing their innocence.
U need to watch the behind the scenes for this MV....

It's a very elaborate piece of artwork from our guys.
i love love loveee your reactions!!! i can’t wait to see where this dive into BTS takes us!! i would recommend looking into their more "unknown” songs there are so many hidden gems and their dance practices show their talent on a different level
it's just about them giving in to temptation. quickest summary
Also above the mirror there is a quote by Nietzsche in German:
"Man muss noch Chaos in sich tragen, um einen tanzenden Stern gebären zu können." (One must still have chaos in oneself to be able to give birth to a dancing star)
The imagery is heavily influenced by the whole book, one character, Pistorius, is an organ player, then there is this hybrid semi devil/angel deity called Abraxas and so on. It's very interesting, esp. for the time it was written - 1919 (first published in English in 1923).
It is definitely worth looking into the videos that try to explain this.
He doesn't "yield to temptation":
He grows up leaving the dictate of parents, earthly and celestial rules behind to find himself as a person: individuation.
You forget that the members are not actually religious despite some of the symbolism.
It's the old question: "Who Am I?"
@@ruthfischer7615 If you say so.
However the symbolism that the group uses is about temptation and submitting to it.
@@sc0ttishlass
And they leave neither through the white nor the black door.
@@ruthfischer7615 Whatever that is why I told them to watch the MV explained videos.
Definitely watch the explanation for this one. There is so much in it that I still see things I missed after watching it SO many times! 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

This was a great reaction, I thought you'd enjoy this one! I still highly recommend reacting to the series of short films they made leading up to this video, I think they're some of the best stuff put out by a pop artist in the last decade, and add to the overarching storyline they were telling from 2015-2019. Each video is titled 'Wings Short Film' + the title:
1 Begin
2 Lie
3 Stigma
4 First Love
5 Reflection
6 Mama
7 Awake
(I also highly recommend the music video for the Japanese version of Blood Sweat & Tears, it's an important companion piece for this one.
7:49 the kind is BTS. They are their own genre 😊
💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
There is a "behind/making of" for every MV. Just FYI.
Sigh… i miss them..😢
Their team built the sets they used
Thx for reaction this mv....my favorite
I recommend you guys to watch the Behind the scene or Making Film of this MV. They used practical sets here😊
Blood Sweat & Tears is a whole psychological thriller.

I highly recommend you to watch the explanation video so you can fully appreciate the meaning and work they put into this mv. You would be simply mind blown!
I could never see MJ producing something any were near Blood, Sweat and Tears.
He was referring specifically to the crotch-grab in the choreo.
It’s got a reggaeton beat.😊
There is a behind the scenes video, however, I also suggest you watch an explanation video for this mv and for me the best explanation is by Don’t Worry I’m Not Afraid channel. Without watching it you can never understand how in-depth the BTS members intelligence, creativity, and the sources of inspiration they delve into internally and externally.
Behind the scenes and explained video 👌
The genre of 'Blood Sweat & Tears' is the moombahton trap.
I think that's cool, music and dance
