Don’t forget to check the description! You might find answer to your question :D At 1:56 Odysseus does NOT punch Athena in the face xD Yes, there's an apple again... I know- Okay I think that's all I want to say
Hi sorry to bother you but i wanted to ask is they red tint on Odysseus's blade to represent the hate/bloodlust left over from the battle with the cyclops or just from the realm of the mind? (or am i just overthinking it and its blood?)
Hey I looked and did the apple mean that Athena was showing she did indeed consider Odysseus a friend? Apples thrown generally was to loved ones supposedly if I’m right?
It shows how much they care about each other, even if they're not willing to admit it.... And the little lotus eater.... Man, especially after Wisdom saga, this is heartbreaking. Def my fave animatic for 'My Goodbye'.
Yeah I see it as kind of a "fine see if I care you're going to die but fine walk away we're done!" To me much of Athena's part in this song feels like she's lashing out because she thinks Odysseus is going to die and in her mind if he'd just listened to her he wouldn't be in this situation
I think this is the first animatic I’ve seen where I feel so many different undertones compared to the lyrics. How there’s EVEN MORE DEPTH added. Odysseus screaming how she’s alone sounds like him screaming his pain about how alone HE feels. How alone SHE’S made him by raising him above the rest and how her abandoning him when he’s already in so much pain has made him SNAP. His shed tears fallen on her face both like a moment of epiphany for her but also like he’s cried the tears FOR HER. Like those are the tears she can’t shed. Also the apple is damn smart. Because for all that Athena scolds and raves at Odysseus’ weak human emotions…her involvement and participation in the Trojan War, her absolutely vital partnership with Odysseus to end the war, came about because of her hurt pride at losing the Golden Apple. For her, THIS IS ALL HURT PRIDE. Because the war is over and Odysseus for real fucked up, but her focus is how badly this reflects on her. That the great Warrior of the Mind, a Hero of Troy that proved her own capabilities had now FAILED. That at the beginning was a TEMPER TANTRUM. BUT. (And oh wow, I loved that the previous animatics built up to this.) Odysseus really did LEARN from her and she underestimated just how much. Because as a warrior trained by her, he can actually anticipate her moves and know how to incapacitate her without truly hurting her. As her student, he’s gotten to the point where he can ACTUALLY MANIPULATE the Quick-Thought Dimension ITSELF! He’s proven, in some ways, her EQUAL. And that raises the stakes and tension in this song while also making it even more harrowing. Because the power balance is now startlingly more equal than before. They’re BRAWLING. He PINNED her. He could HURT A GODDESS. And so he and Athena fight and rage against each other until they crash and…Odysseus is on top but he’s the one that’s broken. And Athena is snapped out of her own temper to realize that her pride has maybe lost her that bright, vivacious, caring little shit she’s so fond of. She’s done her own part in killing that boy and making the monster. And the most tragic thing is that they both know they’re wrong on some level. They both know they’ve crossed a line. But Odysseus is too lost in his grief and resentment and Athena is still too proud. So they’ve lost each other as a result. EDIT: It’s just…so damn personal.
"at her pride has maybe lost her that bright, vivacious, caring little shit she’s so fond of. She’s done her own part in killing that boy and making the monster." for real you speak whats in my heart too
It hurts even more when Odysseus says you're alone, because it's not only a call-out of Athena, but the fact that now their relationship is over, Odysseus is alone as well. He really doesn't have a lot of people he cares about that are on his quest home with him (who haven't already died) makes me wish they never fought
i dont get why shes not looking for a friend or a partner...after all whats the meaning of life when you cant be the one to spread your own legacy and morals through your children ?
@@Comment27560outdated thought, athena’s entire life was dedicated to the pursuit of wisdom and military prowess and bringing armies to victory. she herself chose to stay chaste.
0:24 OH NO SHE DIDN’T- And there’s even a gap in the armor where ‘Polites’ guts were spilled. Considering this is a reconstruction, that means Athena is literally taunting Odysseus by showing him the dead version of the friend who called for mercy, *minutes after he died.* Holy shit.
My favorite part is when he turns to walk away from Athena and just *Le Scoops* the little Lotus eater like: come on little one, we leave the deranged Aunty alone now 😂😂😂
Cant believe no ones commented on how despite Athena claiming it was "her goodbye" in the end Odysseus is the one walking away, like shes so desperate to claim to be the one in control
While it's impossible to tell what the creator's intention is because the official visual animation/production hasn't come out yet- it literally gave me goosebumps to think of it this way. In my head it was always Athena walking away but this animatic gave it a twist that's very interesting to think about because Athena (at least in this musical especially) is VERY about controlling Odysseus, and the idea that Odysseus is abandoning her but she's trying to frame it as her walking away adds another layer of her obsession with control that I think would genuinely benefit the character in an official production.
my thought on that is that the apple could be symbolic of the trojan war and what began Odysseus' journey, considering it was a conflict over a golden apple between the three goddesses, Athena, Hera and Aphrodite that sparked the trojan war to begin with
I love that Odysseus cries when he purposely misses stabbing Athena. As much anger as he’s holding inside. He can’t bring himself to do it. It also felt like the first time Athena has truly taken in how fragile a human heart is even in battle based on the look on her face
It really does feel like it was Athena’s first time realizing how fragile a human’s heart is and how much pent up anger, sadness, stress, and guilt Odysseus has.
I love this interpretation. It shows Athena’s insecurities so strongly, screaming after Odysseus like he’s nothing without her (bc ofc, she’s a goddess!). Essentially proving Odysseus’s point which I LOVE seeing that Odysseus isnt the only one in the wrong in this song. The way he covers his ears is just the topping on the cake. Also, the little lotus eater 🥺 it basically imprinted itself on him.
Ikr the lotus eater- poor little guy hitched a ride and has to endure the carnage of Polyphemus, but also Odysseus scooping the lotus eater up as he walked away from Athena 💕💕💕 it’s so cute,, he’s just adopted that lotus eater as a pet (I want to see the Lotus Eater meet the winions-)
I do quite enjoy the back and forth shone by Athena and Odysseus but I would like to point out that Poseidon likely wouldn’t have been as big of an issue if this hadn’t happened.
I love how viscerally messy the Athena/Odysseus breakup is here. it really helps sell the reason they're going at it so hard and so angrily is because they *did* have a close friendship but it got smashed as hard as Odysseus's men.
@@licas3214 Still cool that he managed to outmatch her with pure sword play, Sure Athena could wipe the floor with him thanks to her powers, But the fact that her training managed to make a man eclipse a god in their expertise is no small feat both for Athena and for Odysseus. Motivation and sheer determination is after all, Mankind's biggest strength and probably why Athena had such high hopes for Odysseus, To see him achieve that and throw it away, anyway, because of the same human element that made him so remarkable makes Athena mad less because of the mentality, As Athena herself is not above it, But more because he's not willing to go through with it despite the potential because of what it means. Athena thinks it's lack of will and grit, Which is why she's so disappointed, But with Odysseus willing to show he's willing to fight a goddess not because of glory but to show a friend what he really has on his mind. Causing Athena to breakdown, Truly breakdown, To see even the greatest potential is not motivated by pride or glory but by the memories and love of his family, Blood related or not. She gets it, But refuses to admit it because emotions are not efficient, They get in the way of any plan. It's in every shape and form against her nature to feel and when she does what else she can do but rage, Where humans would move on.
Honestly, I love that Athena and Odysseus' argument seems more personal in this video. They're both at fault. As much as Athena is seen as a God, her outburst, and her screaming back at Odysseus trying to get the last word in made her seem so much like a human. At the beginning of the video, Athena kind of starts the whole squabble and tries to end it by flying away, and I like how Odysseus got his word in. Kind of telling her "You can't just yell at me and leave, you said your peace now I get to say" mine sort of thing.
Considering in mythology the gods and goddess all have human emotions and faults to the nth level which is what makes them so outlandish. Zeus is a narcissist and a compulsive cheater, Ares had anger issues, Hera was jealous, and ect.
Someone made a comment on this point, but I really wanted to add my two cents to it. Of the different versions I've seen of this, so far they've had Athena depicted as unwavering for the most part. Especially at the last part, I see others showing how she's repeating, "This is my goodbye" as though it's more her emphasizing how badly he's messed up before she goes. In this one, it's very much like she's trying to get him to turn around and apologize, fall on his knees and plead for her forgiveness, using images of them being together when he was younger and finally at 2:50 she's realizing that he's NOT taking it and blocking her out, that pause, that look on her face of surprise, then finally the frustrated clench of her teeth and more screaming out of anger like a, "No! This is MY goodbye! Not yours! I'M the one leaving!" This is by far my favorite interpretation of this scene by far. The others are incredible! But this one sings to me on a spiritual level.
Yeah. In love the fact she seems distressed from their parting but neither is willing to apologize or make up. This hurt both of them in different ways. This relationship has been years in making. Though she wasnt looking for a friend and him a mentor they cant deny or admit they did become both. I think Athena folly was she saw Odysseus as a tool to use as she saw fit but as she says "hes just a man" flawed and all. He could never. Turn off all his emotions and act with cold logic. He's human and that was something Athena could never understand. For being goddess of wisdom she was very short sighted. Loved the line "what good is a title that goddess could lend if I'll never sleep at night" he's affected by every choice he makes, every life lost, every sacrifice made and that wont change.
Hmmm I disagree that she MADE those images appear. Thats way too manipulative and douchey. I interpret it as all being in Ody’s head; like as they seperate, it’s more of a metaphorical representation of Ody reflecting on their history together; as opposed to some spell she casted.
@@ourlordandsaviorsquirtle3278 if that’s how you wanna see it- I thought she took a liking to him in their relationship so I doubt she’d stoop to this manner of guilt tripping.
2:10 - 2:23 is just so beautiful. The way you never explicitly show Athena crying and yet her grief is so clearly depicted with Odysseus' tears and the sword covering her eyes is incredible.
That but the apple being tossed to someone has a lot of meaning in Ancient Greek culture usually and eternal bond usually coming to marriage but not always the case it’s more her offering that bond and him knocking that away Atleast that’s my interpretation based of prior knowledge of the culture
@@Lancasterlaw1175 exactly idk if it’s just me but she seems jealous almost she wants to be his guide his teacher his friend and don’t rlly like that there are others
I’m really loving the trend of Athena being so much taller than Odyssey since it highlights how ready he is to just throw hands. And what a cool interpretation of the song with it feeling like a more mutual breakup of the iconic duo.
I mean, in the myths, Gods are always taller than human. I don’t remember what ancient poet said that, but i remember something along the lines of “if one of the Gods were to stand up in the home of a human, they would touch the ceiling with their head.” So, yes. Now, homes were far less tall back then, so the average god would probably have been something like 2.0-2.5 meters tall. Even 3 meters, in some cases.
HOLY SHIT GOD THIS WAS FUCKING INCREDIBLE Instead of just being a usual argument that stemmed from just yelling each other, this was genuine fight between a goddess and a man who used to be friends and now end their friendship in a squabble, also I love that you made Athena slightly turn into Polities in the beginning, the Lotus Eater looking sadly at Athena and then we finally get to see Odysseus rock a headband that supposed belonged to his dear friend.
@@tumblingartist The Athena to Polites moment was a huge gut punch and amazing. And I think it's impressive that there's this underlying feeling that as angry as they are with each other, they don't really want to hurt one another. Athena's a goddess. If she wanted to, she could probably obliterate Odysseus easily. And he had every chance to strike her down with his sword, but he didn't. But they're both "warriors of the mind" so of course they're going to end up using violence while struggling with their emotions. It's just soooo goood.
One thing that I'd been trying to visualize that you did really well is physicalizing the reasons why Athena or Odysseus don't just pick up and leave. She should, after her first chorus, theoretically have had the last word and be out of there, but _he's_ got something he needs to say which stops her. Then later, she keeps calling after him because she wants so desperately to have control over the situation. I thought you did that so well. Loved it
I personally imagined that she vanishes, and he just keeps talking to thin air, because he knows her well enough to know that she'll stay while invisible, listen, and maybe even reappear to throw a retort, which she does. I like this way as well
Him offering his hand at Athena after he basically attempted to kill her and then simply walking away… now I know why you had so many problems Odi, remember she’s a goddess!
Can we appreciate the symbolism of 2:15. It looks from the side profile as though the sword is lodged in her head. And with Athena being the goddess of wisdom, it feels symbolic of Odysseus striking her out of his mind and cutting out her wisdom.
Love how you made athena scream after Odysseus... as if trying to get him change his mind and apologize and come back... and the ending flash of the owl.. just wow. Bravo!! You should become the official animator for the musical and get payed because this is just too jaw dropping and i don't have words how in awe i am from your interpretation of the songs (i never read the book so your animation helped me understand the visual of the songs more)
Lol trying to get him change his mind, nope, she's the one who decided to end the relationship, even if he changed his mind and apologize the relationship will still end
I love how in Odysseus's POV, when he points the sword at Athena, when the line "Whats a title that a goddess can lend" plays, it focuses on Athena, but when the line "If I'll never sleep at night" plays, it focuses on Odysseus's reflection, making the 2 lines represent eachother even more. It really makes you think about Odysseus's pain and regret.
I like here it feels less like "Athena leaving Odysseus" and more "Odysseus leaving Athena and Athena's goddess mind not being able to comprehend a mortal leaving her", and he even squares up with her goddamn
GODS I love your Athena design. She looks so much more human than most depictions of her. And especially with all the emotion she’s showing here, it’s just brilliant
Jesus this was amazing. I love the interpretation of Athena's Goodbyes. It's almost as though she's trying to win him back like "I'm really leaving this time!!! You'll be sorry! NO SERIOUSLY I'M LEAVING". She was so insecure at the end without him. The fact that he landed blows on her at all shows that she STILL underestimated him and didn't see him as a threat. Her pride was definitely hurt. I love how different people interpret different emotions for the characters and yours is hands down my absolute favorite!
this athena design is awesome! i like that most artists draw the difference between the gods and odysseus by making them bigger but giving her wings and talons really set her apart! she's not just a tall lady she's the embodiment of wisdom!
2:42 I absolutely love that in Athena’s voice she praying (can goddesses pray?😂) that he’ll change his mind and come back. Kinda like saying “I’ll do it later, I’ll do it tomorrow, I’ll wait till next week” she trying to convince him (or herself) to come back or that he’s not coming back.
Best animatic possible for this song, hands down! You went for the challenge of bringing in action to the conversation and its incredible - Odysseus actively trying to break theough the realm, Athena finishing the job - basically "You can't break up with me, I'm breaking up with you!" Ugh absolute perfection
So, this thing takes place in Odysseus' head, more or less, given that Jorge describes Quick Thought as being entire mental conversations happening in an instant, if I remember correctly. And to me that just makes this whole animatic more impactful. The verbal lashing out between the two of them literally expresses itself as a brawl - Athena's shouts creating a wind, clawing and tearing at him in owl form, and then when she tries to fly away, _then_ Odysseus can return that favour, literally throwing his sword out to hit her. Also, a mental image of Odysseus being able to physically harm a mental image of Athena, a literal goddess, seems a little bit more realistic than him managing the actual thing :P Odysseus taking off his bracers, the ones from your previous animatic, and then stomping on them - if Athena wants to wash her hands of him, then he's more than willing to do the same, and that includes refusing her gifts. Also, the only times when Athena actually shows any emotion but anger and disappointment? 1:00 she looks shocked when he hits her with the sword, which could be surprise at the fact that he, as a mortal, _dares_ to speak back or that it actually works. 1:20, when Odysseus' back is physically turned to her, she looks... sad? Ashamed? And 2:10, when even _then_ as he's poised to take the 'killing blow' as it were, his sword is turned aside. Even against _Athena_ who is berating him for not making that decision, right now, in this moment, Odysseus chooses mercy. He cries. And she just looks... stunned. I love this one, so much.
@@wolfsbanealphas617 ehhh, mortals never really have INJURED gods without divine intervention itself. The only times off the top of my head is Diomedes and Ares (in which Athena does all the work for Diomedes), or Heracles and Thanatos. With the latter, Heracles never _hurt_ Thanatos, he just wrestled him until Thanatos was too tired to bother. There was also the gigantomachy, but I believe Heracles was a god by that point (and if he wasn't, he was still being helped by gods and killing giants, which themselves are not fully fledged gods).
2:54 I know it’s a animatic but can anyone hear that at the end where she says this is my good bye lines, it’s sounds like she is really rethinking her words? Like I know he was throwing up all her insecurities but does anyone hear that she is actually really heartbroken about having to leave him alone? Because you can hear it in her voice that this is not the path she wants to go down. Like in the beginning she was burning all her fire but now she is burnout and is just realizing that she lost her warrior, her friend that means everything to her.
How do achieve maximum pain in “calm” panels? I thought the worst was past us (angry betrayal, the ruthless fight between them like yo I didn’t think they would resort to such violence with each other 😭) BUT THEN YOU LEFT THAT BLOODIED FEATHER WITH THOSE FOOTSTEPS Like bro I already thought I was in for a culinary experience that was way more than I could ever expect (like getting some food and it turning out to be so good you’re laying there DAZED because you’ve just been introduced to a whole new world of flavour and brain just cannot compute because it is so far out of your usual fare) and then you finish of with a scene that will haunt me forever. Just wow. It’s like you have my heart and casually left me another stab as you went on your way like how could you? 😭 There are just so many layers to unpack here and I am stunned that you fleshed out their characters so well and portrayed it so effectively. There’s a storm of emotion - mostly the past, the words and violence they are using to hurt each other in the present, and the loss and grief over what they saw in each other (the future they hoped for). Your characterisation of them sends me shivers because you really went in and had them claw out everything they had in their complicated relationship and WHY this had to fall apart here and now, in this very scene, in the face of what Odysseus had just done and has endured. And then there’s the execution and craft in the art itself. My god I cannot even begin to describe how genius the imagery was and everything was precisely honed to strike a point - a very painful point. You almost scare me with how well you account for the audience’s perception Like I was shocked that Odysseus would purposely aim for Athena’s wing, then she went for his neck, then their wrestling - every part was soaked in their pain. I don’t know what it is that gives me the shock factor that these two would actually go through those lengths. I’m used to seeing violence on screen - especially fiction - but these two people who care so much about each other, who give such heavy weight to what they think is important, who you portrayed as sparring - for training towards their dreams, a shared activity that shows how he’s grown under her tutelage, and probably something of a love language between master and student as wit and combat is their common ground - are now seeking outright HARM to the other from their ANGER AND HATRED. It is also their way of telling the other that their views are right - the only way the other would take their point. (I got sidetracked I’m so sorry) Like dude, you hit me with all that, make me feel something for violence along with the shock (SHE THREW AN APPLE AT HIM) with just the kind of brutality they were inflicting each other (the way it was reduced to the raw and angry scruffle after she pounced at him, these two greatest minds getting at it like this), and then when I think that the coast was clear you gave that bloodied feather. And the expressions. THE EXPRESSIONS There is so much to convey because of the storm inside their hearts and minds and you presented it all with a fine-tuned knife. You can excellently portray a wide array of emotions, and you carefully choose what and where to apply it for maximum effect. My personal favourite is after Odysseus stabs his sword beside Athena’s face, cutting off a lot of her hair. I just cannot stop thinking about how you chose to show the frame from an angle that has the sword cover Athena’s eyes and we have to watch her lips to read her - the soft sadness to wretched rage. Like I’m speechless that you also knew that the cards in your arsenal as an animator is what you show and how - but also what you DON’T SHOW. That I will never see Athena’s full expression there is more haunting than actually seeing it because it is her MOST vulnerable moment. Does anyone really know how a person looks or feels when you’ve been stripped bare and stabbed like that? By the person you felt this close to? The one you had hopes and dreams for? And EPIC’s choice that Athena’s number 1 motivation is to “create the greatest warrior” (and how she threw her heart in it no matter how she espouses the cold, efficient rationality herself. In her efforts to make the greatest mind she also left someone with the greatest capacity to break her heart). She raised that kid and look where they are. (Also ODYSSEUS’S TEARS FALLING ON ATHENA’S FACE MAKE ME WANT TO TEAR MY SKIN OFF MY BACK WHAT THE HELL HOW DO YOU EVEN-) (SHIT THAT PART WHERE YOU ZOOM INTO EACH OF THEIR EYES AND WHAT SHE FORCED HIM TO SEE/WHAT THEY THOUGHT/SAW) (THE ARM BRACES ARRGHHHHHH) (HIS REFLECTION WHEN HE POINTED THE SWORD AT HER) (HOW COULD I FORGET THE POETRY OF HER HARASSING HIM IN HER OWL FORM AND FLYING AWAY BEFORE HE THROWS A KNIFE THROUGH HER WING SO SHE DOESN’T GET TO BE SO HIGH AND MIGHT, SHE SHOULDN’T LOOK DOWN ON HIM WHEN HE CAN BRING HER DOWN TO HIS LEVEL.) (HE TRIED TO ESCAPE HER QUICK TIME 😭, DUDE REALLY FOUGHT AGAINST A GOD’S POWER AND BETWEEN HIS WITS AND HER NOT HAVING A GREAT TIME HE AT LEAST BROKE ONE WALL) (It’s his “good riddance” but it pains him so much and Athena feels so scorned that she does not leave him in peace / sends him one last wave to torment him before disappearing entirely.) (Please continue your amazing work! ❤) (So it turns out I spent over an hour writing all this because I had so much to say 😅)
Oh don’t mention it! Whenever possible, I want to make sure artists know how much I appreciate their art and I desperately did not want you to go without knowing what you made me experience. It’s luck on my part that I really read into your animatic. For most of the year my brain is too zombified from work to interpret any art so I’m glad my December lucidity caught onto your work. Your art knocked the wind out of me and I wasn’t going to leave without making sure you got to know how thankful I am to you for the efforts you put in and for sharing it for all of us internet strangers to watch. Also are you telling me that some of this was COINCIDENCE? Otherwise you might have unconsciously gravitated towards decisions that built on (and thus drove a knife further into my gut) what you laid out in Warrior of the Mind? Because the revisited themes and imagery (in a chillingly different tone and intention), coupled with how all that they are feeling and thinking is boiling over the surface and manifesting in every shared language and hopes they had for each other just makes it a critical hit that took EVERYTHING they had between them to fuel the ugliest break up I have ever seen. Do you realise how you have made art of the COMPLETE severance of their bond? They burned their bridges and hit the other where it hurts because they WANTED to hurt them while aggrieved by how they can’t keep the other in their life anymore. They took everything they had - past, present, future - and scalded the other because this is where they will end this in the worst way possible since the other has repairably wronged them. You brought all this to the surface and I spent that night lying there feeling like I’ve been drained of 10 years worth of emotions after I had to sit through and experience everything that went on between those two in this song. I thought I had gone through a marathon because of how many emotions and thoughts I had caught from them. That wasn’t intentional?!? Bro how is this not even your final form, do I need to brace myself for the day I go catatonic from watching another one of your works?! 😭 (this is all positive, I just can’t believe that there’s a chance you would top this and put me through even more of a ferocious whirlwind of an experience like I’m not ready! I’m still recovering from this animatic!)
Never have I been more terrified of the power of an angry god. A haunting picture of the fury Athena can unleash, these animatics never fail to give me chills. I do like how Odysseus’ humanity literally breaks through the barrier of divinity as he’s able to beat her in combat, a slight call back to the fight we saw in “Warrior of the Mind”. Underneath it all I think Odysseus was right and we see that almost childish ignorance of perspective that Athena has since she is so removed from the hearts of mortals. Unable to truly process her frustration she lashes out at him like a pet that isn’t listening. The arc these characters follow is beautifully captured, so heartbreaking and full of emotion. Always love watching these videos, truly a master of storytelling!!
I love this so much! This interpretation is how i imagined a Goddess would react. Pissed, sad and a teeny bit desperate. I mean Athena, a Goddess, chose and promised that this mortal would be like them and would be able to push his mortality/humanity away. But instead chose wrong and made to be a fool in the eyes of her fellow Gods/Goddess' because of a human. That in itself should have been a death sentence for Odysseus.
Athena repeatedly screaming that this would be her goodbye waiting for Odysseus to return, but him covering his ears and avoiding seeing the memories of that friendship breaks me all down
I don't think it totally lines up with the song, but I think making the two of them straight up brawl is awesome. What I love the most is turning Athena's last verse into a desperate attempt to get Odysseus's attention. I struggled for a while trying to figure out that last verse's intentions, originally I thought it sounded like the song was framing Athena as "in the right". The only other animatic I saw had Odysseus reaching out to her at that part of the song. I never thought of it being the other way around, but it fits so well. Mad props to you.
This was such a cool interpretation! Especially with the subversion of making Athena a feral owl lady instead of the reserved tactician she's usually depicted as
The whole reflection in the sword shot & the shot during the pause…those two are pure masterpieces of conveying emotion and also with giving us a sense of where Odysseus’s head is at. Literally perfect, Mirscy.
Athena taking on the form of Polites that just hurt😭💔 Hell this entire video hurts my heart and the poor Lotus eater, I'm glad Odyseuss didn't leave him there 😭😭😭💔💔💔💔 I'm always excited when you post a new animation for Epic, they're all so good. Man but Survive and My Goodbye just break my heart so bad. Amazing job
This is a damn fresh take on the matter y'know! Many do just a verbal fight, which is completely okay, but seeing Odysseus and Athena actually fight physically? Being filled with so much raw emotion as each feel betrayed by the other?? Athena feeling hurt when Odysseus makes his parture official and doesn't bother to look or listen at her when she declares her goodbye for real???? THAT'S SOME DAMN GOOD STUFF!! And gosh her crossing the line showing his fallen comrades, his fallen _friend_ so much good stuff in a single animatic And I hope the little Lotus Eater sticks around with Odysseus forever cause the guy needs it
I hear this song and I just pictured a heated argument between two colleagues. You imagined a confrontation worthy of the name EPIC THE MUSICAL! Holy shit that was awesome. This is also the first time that I've heard this song and actually sided with Odysseus. Because we all know letting that cyclops live will end up being one of his greatest mistakes. But in this scene Athena is so callous when berating him. Even summoning the image of his dead best friend to point out his errors. Great animatic and I can't wait to see your next one.
At 0:23 where Athena shows his dead freind is so impactful. As a history and mythology explorer ,he cared very much for his freind and it is believe that once he lost this freind ( I can’t spell it correctly) things went downhill for him and the crew. He didn’t lose much during the war but this was his breaking point. So sad. Thank you this animatic was incredible maybe it might be my favorite.
I seriously can’t fathom how AMAZING this animatic is, like what the HECK 🤩🤯 Them not just having your usual heated argument but actual fighting and landing hits on each other, Odysseus having the GUTS to try and take a stab at a goddess, and that shot where Athena was lying on the ground and Odysseus’ tears falling onto her face, oh gods I just can’t 🥵 Seriously, thank you for supplying us starving fans with sustenance, you have no idea how long I’ve been waiting for this animatic
I love how you portrayed their emotions so strongly, Athena watched him grow up, he had her by his side most of his life, so that moment was sooo intense and I love that it can be seen and felt in your animation
3:12 it hurts seeing these two growing a part. athina did a lot for ody and ody. on the other hand, consider her as his best friend, and yet this happened this song 🥺🥺tears my heart every time
Okay, i havent found a single acknowledgement of this and i personally wanted to say it but how you portrayed the singing through their movements and the raw emotional burst each side is having in this exchange is so powerful. The rasp att the end is so wonderful fitted with the distance between the two as if Athena was straining to get her voice heard. Just spmething i liked and thought to be spoken even 2 months late.
Adding to the list of symbolism for the apple lol. It reminds me of what started the trojan war in the first place, the golden apple. It's like a slap in the face for Athena, who wasn't chose despite her talents. She wants that recognition as a god, & wanted Odysseus to help her get it. When he leaves, it's like being rejected again...🍎
I love that despite how most would believe it unlikely to have a physical fight with a goddess, you chose to interpret and animate this song perfectly and brutally accurate to how much they’re hurting each other with their words 😢😭
I absolutely love the way this conflict is depicted in this animatic. It's so active and heavy while expressing the conflict in such strong visual form. It is just two people having a verbal spat, but it feels like so much more thanks to the amazing choices mircsy made. I can't praise this enough
I love this so much! I love your Athena the most because she looks like a god, while also being able to look human. The emotion shown throughout is amazing. Her anger with the Apple throwing, shoving his/polities philosophy at him, saying keep your damn morals if you don’t want mine! Odysseus’s frustration and anger at what feels like a betrayal at his lowest moment. The way he shoves it back at her, like “you want this, fine, but I’m getting my piece in too!” I also just love the scene with Ody being unable to stab her physically, but his words being a stab to her. Not to mention his tears falling on her face! And Athena’s denial on how this has been turned on her, going from on her terms to his. That she wanted to have her piece and leave to avoid the hurt that comes with confrontation, and how this genuinely hurt her! It felt like she was trying to get him to come back to her so that she could then have it on her terms again, but him denying that by covering his ears and walking away with hardened grief in his eyes! And taking the Winion with him as if he was trying to take the pieces left of Polities with him! And 2:50 her face of anger and realisation from the grief of the end of their relationship, as if in denial, then angry that he didn’t even care to look back on this! And her determination to end this on her terms to prevent the grief of him leaving her! And how throughout the song she transitioned from being an emotionless warrior/mentor to a hurt, grieving friend (as much as she denies it), which you can see in her outfit transitions! That despite her attempts of preserving her emotions (reflected in her line “you won’t disappoint me”) by cutting it on her end, she failed… (from the line “I’ll close the door” to “you cut the line”, alongside just the hurt seen on her face). Just in love with this interpretation, but sad from all the emotions conveyed! ❤😍😭😭
Bruh, I'm sad now. Also, the apple is a nice touch, because I think it represents the Apple of Discord, which is one of the main reasons the Trojan War began, which was why Odysseus left Ithaca in the first place, which also means it is why they fought Polyphemus in the first place as well.
2:11 Athena's expression gets me in the feels EVERY. TIME. Her mask is unveiled for the first time in the animatic, and you can see how hurt and shocked she looks. Odysseus's tears slip down her face, which makes it look like SHE'S the one crying. Amazing detail. Love this animatic.
This feel like a good representation of how man and god will never truly mix, will never truly be able to give the other exactly what they need. And I love how you conveyed that Odysseus finally, clearly saw that his god isn't infallible and will never be able to understand the value of what she and all those like her were urging him to toss aside; humanity. The one thing gods will never taste, never understand, never be able to account for, and the one thing that draws them to mankind in the first place. And it feels like she's as startled by the tears falling on her face as she is by being bested by a mortal. Confused and shaken for a just a moment before the wrath of a spurned god returns
This is absolutely amazing. The dynamics, the posing, the way that every second was building up the tension that was present throughout the fight. It was absolutely astonishing. And Athena using Polites for the part starting with "Put your emotions aside"? ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT.
Okay I like the concept that Ody starts to carry a memento of his men after each death, and by the end he has different ones to mark Polites, Eurylochus, Calypso lmao...
Mircsy is truly one the best animators who has worked on this musical. Greek influenced art, plenty of visual metaphor, beautiful character design, and such a deep understanding and interpretation of the musical.
As somebody who is new to this whole musical, I genuinely thought this was the original. This is so professionally made that before considering the fact that this was fan made, I thought to myself that the ones I had been watching previously were actually the fan made ones. And that these were the REAL original ones! That just goes to show how well done it is. My favorite thing is the way you did Athena though! I can’t wait to see you do others
I love how you portray the deities in ways that present them as more than humans with something extra. I also like this way you present the goodbye. Instead of Odysseus reaching out to her, it's her who does it, her last verses getting louder and more desperate with each cry. I prefer this version, because I think it makes more sense, and shows us how deeply Odysseus actually affected her and her heart.
This was far more violent and somber than the other animatics I have seen for this song, and while there were some parts that felt odd (why break through a barrier, were they in a force field?), the animation style, execution, and action were astonishing and that look at 2:12 and the rage and sadness on Odysseus's face prior to that were the best I have seen. I also love how this has more action and movement to it, the other animatics mostly have the two talking and circling/studying each other, but this actually has them fight in a menacing way that also communicates their sadness. Love it!
My interpretation is the battle is happening in his head. Him breaking out of the force-field is him symbolically leaving her influence/breaking out of her arena. Athena simultaneously going through conflicting "no, I'm kicking you out/but don't leave" type of emotions
I love how when he takes off the bracers and stomp on them which was supposed to be athena's mark on him essentially claiming him to be her "warrior of thr mind" him taking them off told her that he rejects her and the he is no longer hers to control and manipulate
0:59 I came here from the "warrior of the mind" animatic to say Ody throwing his sword at the Owl matches up visually to Young Ody reaching out to Athena flying away in that animatic, Awesome visual continuity!!! "It's like poetry, it rhymes" Edit: The poses are even on different sides to show the difference in the kind of dynamics they haveeeee oml
@@that.drawer.mircsy Finding a connection not even the animator intended? Sounds like the work of a warrior…of a very special kind…(You are the warrior of the miiiiiiiiind…don’t disappoint meee)
ok no this is my favorite rendition of my goodbye, the others I've seen look like Athena remains on this untouchable pedestal while this on allows the visual of Odysseus taking a stand against her.
1:45 - The shot into Odysseus's and Athena's eyes to show reflection of the other's first appearance to each other was the FIRST gut punch in this animatic to show that these two WERE actually good friends. And to follow this up with her pushing him and herself into a free-fall full of anger is just-Chef kiss. The second was when the sword missed her head and we see her shocked expression and the tears dropping from him. This was just amazing!
Epic is one of my favorite musical sagas so i love seeing it in this light. keep it up and i hope to see more of you in the future. also your depiction's of everyone, especially Athena, is the only way I can see them now.
Okay, but YOU DREW ATHENA SO BEAUTIFULLY. Ngl I'm a certified simp over her design, and the attention to detail, I want her to step on me I would say thank you. Honestly you're probably my favorite animatic peep u,w,u
Honestly incredible one of the best musical animations on RUclips in general. One detail I like was how Athena yells out to Odysseus at the end but doesn’t get a response so yells out more aggressively show how much she fears being alone and ignored. Idk if this wasn’t what you were going for but that’s how I interpreted it at least.
This probably has the most ACTION and EMOTION of any animatic I have ever seen (Which are a lot btw). The animation is so dynamic and captures the essence of the lyrics beautifully. What a masterpiece
I love this so much😭✋️ this is without a doubt my favorite "my goodbye" animation. You're art style is so beautiful and i love how you draw Athena: after the fight she looks so human and shocked when Odysseus starts crying, it's like she didn't expected it and for a second her anger disappered just to come back as soon as Odyesseus got up I LOVE ALL YOUR WORKS SO MUCH FJDKAKALLA
I really like what you did with the thumbnail. The exact same on you used for Warrior of the Mind, but you made it black and white and shattered it to show that their relationship is now shattered
You don’t understand how obsessed I am with your artwork. It is so wonderful! The emotions and poses! Everything! Stunning, breathtaking, brilliant, etc. Your characterization and design of Athena is just *chef’s kiss* THE WINGS AND HER OWL FORM. Ugh, amazing! One of my favorites designs of her by far. Also, the winions are adorable! And I love how Odysseus throws his sword, managing to actually cut Athena’s wing, like, “Hey! It’s my turn to yell!” I had to stop this video so many times to just get up and pace around my room to keep from exploding from pure adoration. Keep up the amazing work!
THE FIGHT IS SO COOL?!?! The tiwsts and turns, how she turns into an owl and he hits the wings/cape?! Also OUGHH them breaking through the room and it cracking and THE TEARS WHEN HE TRIES TO STAB HER?!?!?!
Don’t forget to check the description! You might find answer to your question :D
At 1:56 Odysseus does NOT punch Athena in the face xD
Yes, there's an apple again... I know-
Okay I think that's all I want to say
I loved it. But I have a question can you made the animation for ''Remenber them''?
Hi sorry to bother you but i wanted to ask is they red tint on Odysseus's blade to represent the hate/bloodlust left over from the battle with the cyclops or just from the realm of the mind? (or am i just overthinking it and its blood?)

@@courier6429 it’s the reflection of the realm :D
Hey I looked and did the apple mean that Athena was showing she did indeed consider Odysseus a friend? Apples thrown generally was to loved ones supposedly if I’m right?
I love how when she's yelling "this is my goodbye!" it looks like she's hoping he'll turn around and come back to her
And how he still has the lotus eater
This is such a week thought out comment and I absolutely agree with everything you said.
Commenting to boost this as it is such a good explanation
Probably the most depressing and most thought-out analysis of an Epic animatic I’ve ever read. I’m crying myself to sleep now. Thanks. 👍🥳

Odysseus really said, "You can't break up with me, I'm breaking up with you."

Human supremacy
They are both fighting to get the last word the whole time honestly while the other tries to bail, it's awesome to watch.
@@jackiec177 Hera was also a perfectionist. Remember Hephaestus?
Not yours! I'M the one leaving!"
This is by far my favorite interpretation of this scene by far. The others are incredible! But this one sings to me on a spiritual level.
Well I'll be damned, you've got a point 😮

Athena was almost surprised at the end. Like she wasn't expecting this to hurt so much.
😔
HOLY SHIT GOD THIS WAS FUCKING INCREDIBLE Instead of just being a usual argument that stemmed from just yelling each other, this was genuine fight between a goddess and a man who used to be friends and now end their friendship in a squabble, also I love that you made Athena slightly turn into Polities in the beginning, the Lotus Eater looking sadly at Athena and then we finally get to see Odysseus rock a headband that supposed belonged to his dear friend.

@@NightspellweaverYES EXACTLY!! They’re angry, but also very hurt, and they can’t bring themselves to *truly* harm the other despite it
One thing that I'd been trying to visualize that you did really well is physicalizing the reasons why Athena or Odysseus don't just pick up and leave.

You should become the official animator for the musical and get payed because this is just too jaw dropping and i don't have words how in awe i am from your interpretation of the songs (i never read the book so your animation helped me understand the visual of the songs more)
Not to mention the bloodied feather on the floor as Odysseus turns and walks away-
Lol trying to get him change his mind, nope, she's the one who decided to end the relationship, even if he changed his mind and apologize the relationship will still end
@licas3214 Exactly, by making it mutual, Odi took Athena's control of the situation away, making him regret that would be giving that power back.

1:18 Love how it looks like he offers a hand to help her up, but not fully.
Also those visions of kid Odysseus HURT.
Also, a mental image of Odysseus being able to physically harm a mental image of Athena, a literal goddess, seems a little bit more realistic than him managing the actual thing :P
Odysseus taking off his bracers, the ones from your previous animatic, and then stomping on them - if Athena wants to wash her hands of him, then he's more than willing to do the same, and that includes refusing her gifts.
Well he is a aspect of the eternal champion wounding gods makes sense fir him
IKR- this animation is so emotionally charged and you can practically FEEL their emotions though out every part of this
@@wolfsbanealphas617 ehhh, mortals never really have INJURED gods without divine intervention itself.
@@blake3631didn't that sysiphus guy trap Thanatos in a chest or something? Maybe it wasn't an actual fight but that's still pretty damn impressive
@@elfilin-to6dh He uses chains that reduced a god's divinity and strength, then put him into a chest.
It very much could be the accompanying visuals more then the singing, but yes I do think I hear the regret.
How do achieve maximum pain in “calm” panels? I thought the worst was past us (angry betrayal, the ruthless fight between them like yo I didn’t think they would resort to such violence with each other 😭) BUT THEN YOU LEFT THAT BLOODIED FEATHER WITH THOSE FOOTSTEPS
Like bro I already thought I was in for a culinary experience that was way more than I could ever expect (like getting some food and it turning out to be so good you’re laying there DAZED because you’ve just been introduced to a whole new world of flavour and brain just cannot compute because it is so far out of your usual fare) and then you finish of with a scene that will haunt me forever. Just wow.
It’s like you have my heart and casually left me another stab as you went on your way like how could you? 😭
There are just so many layers to unpack here and I am stunned that you fleshed out their characters so well and portrayed it so effectively.
My god
I cannot even begin to describe how genius the imagery was and everything was precisely honed to strike a point - a very painful point. You almost scare me with how well you account for the audience’s perception
Like I was shocked that Odysseus would purposely aim for Athena’s wing, then she went for his neck, then their wrestling - every part was soaked in their pain.
(I got sidetracked I’m so sorry)
Like dude, you hit me with all that, make me feel something for violence along with the shock (SHE THREW AN APPLE AT HIM) with just the kind of brutality they were inflicting each other (the way it was reduced to the raw and angry scruffle after she pounced at him, these two greatest minds getting at it like this), and then when I think that the coast was clear you gave that bloodied feather.
And the expressions.
THE EXPRESSIONS
There is so much to convey because of the storm inside their hearts and minds and you presented it all with a fine-tuned knife.
(Also ODYSSEUS’S TEARS FALLING ON ATHENA’S FACE MAKE ME WANT TO TEAR MY SKIN OFF MY BACK WHAT THE HELL HOW DO YOU EVEN-)
(SHIT THAT PART WHERE YOU ZOOM INTO EACH OF THEIR EYES AND WHAT SHE FORCED HIM TO SEE/WHAT THEY THOUGHT/SAW)
(THE ARM BRACES ARRGHHHHHH)
(HIS REFLECTION WHEN HE POINTED THE SWORD AT HER)
(HOW COULD I FORGET THE POETRY OF HER HARASSING HIM IN HER OWL FORM AND FLYING AWAY BEFORE HE THROWS A KNIFE THROUGH HER WING SO SHE DOESN’T GET TO BE SO HIGH AND MIGHT, SHE SHOULDN’T LOOK DOWN ON HIM WHEN HE CAN BRING HER DOWN TO HIS LEVEL.)
(HE TRIED TO ESCAPE HER QUICK TIME 😭, DUDE REALLY FOUGHT AGAINST A GOD’S POWER AND BETWEEN HIS WITS AND HER NOT HAVING A GREAT TIME HE AT LEAST BROKE ONE WALL)
(It’s his “good riddance” but it pains him so much and Athena feels so scorned that she does not leave him in peace / sends him one last wave to torment him before disappearing entirely.)
(Please continue your amazing work! ❤)
(So it turns out I spent over an hour writing all this because I had so much to say 😅)
Dude, holy cow, thank you for taking the time to write all this!! This unfolded information of my art even for me
Oh don’t mention it!
@@SleepEludesMe647Wow, poignant observations mate! You've taken the words out of my mouth and then some! Loved the analysis here.
Athena repeatedly screaming that this would be her goodbye waiting for Odysseus to return, but him covering his ears and avoiding seeing the memories of that friendship breaks me all down
This just emphasizes the insanity of how he’s doing this to a literal goddess
he's too much of a badass but also ssstooooopidddd xD /j
I don't think it totally lines up with the song, but I think making the two of them straight up brawl is awesome. What I love the most is turning Athena's last verse into a desperate attempt to get Odysseus's attention. I struggled for a while trying to figure out that last verse's intentions, originally I thought it sounded like the song was framing Athena as "in the right". The only other animatic I saw had Odysseus reaching out to her at that part of the song. I never thought of it being the other way around, but it fits so well. Mad props to you.
Same and I love Wolfy's animatic, but the emotional strife in this one just puts it over the top!
This was such a cool interpretation! Especially with the subversion of making Athena a feral owl lady instead of the reserved tactician she's usually depicted as
gorgeous. Also, at like 2:51, I LOVE how the hair left over from the cut of the sword looks like feathers
The whole reflection in the sword shot & the shot during the pause…those two are pure masterpieces of conveying emotion and also with giving us a sense of where Odysseus’s head is at. Literally perfect, Mirscy.
Athena taking on the form of Polites that just hurt😭💔
Hell this entire video hurts my heart and the poor Lotus eater, I'm glad Odyseuss didn't leave him there 😭😭😭💔💔💔💔
I'm always excited when you post a new animation for Epic, they're all so good.
And gosh her crossing the line showing his fallen comrades, his fallen _friend_ so much good stuff in a single animatic
And I hope the little Lotus Eater sticks around with Odysseus forever cause the guy needs it
I hear this song and I just pictured a heated argument between two colleagues.
I love how it was an actual battle of wills between them in Odysseus' mind as the argue, that was really cool!
Friend. The I and the E swich.
Top 10 Musical Songs About Divorce That Aren't Literally About Divorce
It’s so weird seeing a version of this song where Athena bodies Odysseus with her power. Hell, if anything, Ody did pretty well for himself. Props!😊
2:39 Ok now that’s just devastating ;-; all the memories they shared whisking by and then vanishing for the last time.
I love that he fights back
Adding to the list of symbolism for the apple lol.
I love how angry they are at each other in this. Your take on this universe is my favorite of all the Epic animatic I've seen so far.
Yeah i noticed that and i think it is just.. mwah *chefs kiss* the symbolism (if it was intended) is amazing
I love how the weapon of choice be an apple
0:23 oh That's just low, Athena
I can't get over how much I LOVE your Athena design. The Owl headpiece, the owl/bird-ness of her. If just works so well!
This is absolutely amazing. The dynamics, the posing, the way that every second was building up the tension that was present throughout the fight. It was absolutely astonishing. And Athena using Polites for the part starting with "Put your emotions aside"? ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT.
This was the most aggressive version of this song I've ever seen, and I love it
It's epic (pun intended)
A different take from what I first saw the song as, and I absolutely love it
Okay I like the concept that Ody starts to carry a memento of his men after each death, and by the end he has different ones to mark Polites, Eurylochus, Calypso lmao...
2:06 Odysseus really said, “Bro, Athena single af,”
I really like how this animatic, unlike most others, shows them physically fighting, and also shows their history. Well done!
Pretty ballsy indeed of Odysseus to throw his sword to an owl formed Athena 😂😂
“You’re a warrior, mentally distressed”
I CANT UNHEAR IT
This was far more violent and somber than the other animatics I have seen for this song, and while there were some parts that felt odd (why break through a barrier, were they in a force field?), the animation style, execution, and action were astonishing and that look at 2:12 and the rage and sadness on Odysseus's face prior to that were the best I have seen.
This is the most intense version of this song I have ever seen. Seriously! He cut Athena while she was flying away. That’s insane.
0:59 I came here from the "warrior of the mind" animatic to say Ody throwing his sword at the Owl matches up visually to Young Ody reaching out to Athena flying away in that animatic, Awesome visual continuity!!! "It's like poetry, it rhymes"
Edit: The poses are even on different sides to show the difference in the kind of dynamics they haveeeee oml
Now that’s one detail not even I noticed🤣 I mean- It was made that way totally deliberately-
@@that.drawer.mircsy Finding a connection not even the animator intended?
You have best design for all the character and I'm just waiting for more and more
This animatic series is SO GOOD. There's so much good symbolism, so much amazing cinematography. So much AMAZING STUFF
You're art style is so beautiful and i love how you draw Athena: after the fight she looks so human and shocked when Odysseus starts crying, it's like she didn't expected it and for a second her anger disappered just to come back as soon as Odyesseus got up
I LOVE ALL YOUR WORKS SO MUCH FJDKAKALLA
Also sorry if i made some mistakes but english is not my first language
