Love how Quill is presenting Suzie the Paradox community manager to the audience, rather than the other way around haha. If he ever quits YT/Twitch he would do a great job working for Paradox I feel.
she's not that good at explaining things to him, he's sailing right through and she keeps hemming and hawing every time quill asks a question about something like she has to think how to say it.she probably plays it more and got thrown not this 5mins before he started recording and I'm wondering if the camera is throwing her off a bit
I watched another demo of this game a few days ago with one of the designers. A lot of what she is telling Quill is just plain wrong. Very frustrating to watch. I really don't think she has even played the game very much.
Oh I love these awkward encounters. I call it 'blind gaming' and it's where quill sits next to some awkward paradox employee and entertains us by having them act in manners that are all too funny.
i still dont know how quill turned from this hipster streamer years ago into basically paradoxes beta tester/promoter! At some point they ll need to hire you full time quill!
@PHeMoX : cKnoor is the official Paradox Stream Producer, he is literally on their payroll. :P Now Quill, I'm fairly certain, is not, because he does not play Paradox games exclusively, but he generally likes the way Paradox does things with their Strategy games, so he plays them a fair bit.
There should be options to substitute different materials for some buildings. The domes, in particular, should be able to use metal, concrete, and polymers somewhat interchangeably (with a minimum requirement for each resource- but the ability to, for instance, build a done with metal instead of concrete as the main structural material in case you start in an area where concrete is scarce. It's realistic too- metal is a stronger and more versatile building material than concrete...)
Awesome! Quill maintained himself longer than the first minute to not say 'What could possibly go wrong' and I mean that in a good way, at the start of a game, disasters are just promised... time for that catchphrase... ;-)
The sharable coords was confirmed on the paradox stream. :) They also picked the "perfect" start location so worth checking it if you want an easy start!
I am so, so excited for this game. This gameplay video just made me more so. I thought Quill was excellent in the vid and Suzie seemed good too. I could watch more of these two on this game. Can't wait to play this!!!!
I'm somewhat disaapointed that this seems to be a clone of Sol 0. Looks like Paradox are taking advantage of a small indie game not a lot of people know about.
I don't like how the wires work. Would've been cool if they could be placed under buildings etc. Seems pretty annoying that you couldn't place any wire in the blank space in front of the concrete mine.
They got SciFi authors in WWII in the USA to throw out wild ideas for detecting and catching enemy submarines. After all, people who invent worlds and societies and technology all day tend to think out of the box, and the good ones know their sciences ... So a SciFi author might be a good addition for wild, outlandish ideas that might pan out.
I feel that the UI could be more easily readable. There's not a notification for errors with buildings, nor for how much input/output power/water is going on. Also all the pipes and power lines feel very old school sim city...which is not really the best thing. They already have waste build up over time to limit space factors, I feel the power lines are, at this point redunant and tedious. Overall a very cool idea, especially with rover control ranges. But I feel this needs work before release.
If you click on power building/water building you get the information on total consumption and production. Pipes and power lines are cool and realistic i like it.
Red Bear47 Outpost was a frustrating game. Would get several hours into playing then it would crash. Again and again. No known fixes. As someone remarked at the time: "Outpost is compost.". Idea-good, execution-bad.
Interesting. I don't believe I ever had any crashing or issues with Outpost, but I'm certain it could happen. Hopefully Surviving Mars will be better for you. B^)
32:32 this is why I always remove notifications I've seen already, because new ones pop up on a gigantic list and you don't even notice the *fucking* 2 disasters coming your way
"It is good to renew one's wonder, said the philosopher. Space travel has again made children of us all", and naturaly "We earth men have a talent for ruining big, beautiful things".
Wait, Surviving Mars is a Paradox game? BUY (And just a side note: another really cool Mars survival game is RimWorld with the musky Mars total conversion mod) PS: Did anyone else notice the concrete harvester slowly digs a deeper hole?
If they didn't support further development of the game with DLC, then what you buy when the game comes out is all you would ever get. Thus you can choose to purchase the DLC and get new stuff, or you can choose to not purchase DLC and stick with the base game - which is exactly what you would get if they didn't make the DLC in the first place.
the problem is that the "base game" is actually the 50% of the "ACTUAL BASE GAME" and they make it seem like the DLC s are NEW things but actually they on purpose didnt add it to the base game so they can milk your money more..... like 10-15 years ago you bough a GAME what was the equal of nowadays "base game + 100 DLC" TLDR: 10-15 years ago: FULL GAME = everything they ever planned for the game nowadays: GAME = you get a demo FULL GAME = you buy the demo and 100 more DLCs
not that quill is developing this game but, wouldn't it be a nice feature that you experience the first landing from inside the rocket. then the camera flies out into position from the rocket? like the camera is a drone video-feed.
Sci-fi author: here is how they got recruited. They get a call from the space agency. The agency says "Hey we are colonizing Mars based of tech in your book. So want to lead the colony?"
Every time I hear them say dome, all I can think of is The Simpsons Movie. I want a mod that allows Homer to drive around the dome on his motorcycle. That alone would make this game worth it.
Looking forward to play this, still looks a bit raw, some of the basic task seem too complex, like building the cables, that's weird specially coming from City Skylines but overall, it does seem like a very cool game. BTW: What's with the mess he made with the pipes !? Gets me so anxious just to look at that mess XD
So much unnecessary micromanaging in this game from the looks of it. Like the loading/unloading, power cables that do not follow the mouse and remember the path, not being able to put solar panels on vehicles and having to remember to recharge them. They have alot of polishing to do.
Feels like they left the micromanagement in or even increased it to give players something to do. I'm not sure I agree with this design decision and I hope it's just a placeholder mechanic until they have more interesting features in place.
it is not really like that. If you make a drone hub in the midle of your build zone and unload the stuff from the drop ship next to it thats all the micro manage you have to do. Quill messed it up with stockpile placements a bit so it was ackward before he actually built the drone hub.
+Supadubya Um, video is almost 1 hour long, he played on max speed and he only sent rovers to recharge once i think. This was when they were still half full or something. If doing a couple of clicks per rover once per hour is to much micronamanging for you then there are far worse examples out there. So i really hope he did not mean the rovers because that was very minimal.
would be cool if you could import the Twitch sub list as colonist names ;-) renaming would be maybe to much, but atomatic taking names of the list would be cool.
Dunno about that game. So far, Planetbase Mars seems to be superior in every regard. And this is only within the space of most similar games. In a little bit wider range, it has to compete with Aven Colony.
Uh i played Planetbase , all 3 dificulties that were available initially and it was really lacking the content. Here you have much more starting locations, proper research, alot more building space and flexiblity etc... yeah paradox people are notorious for being extremely bad at explaining things. which doesn't help seeing as their games are often very complicated
I watched another demo of this game a few days ago with one of the designers. A lot of what she is telling Quill is just plain wrong. Very frustrating to watch. I really don't think she has even played the game very much.
Quill is secretly Paradox's marketing director :D
Yeah, there's some things that were painful to see her try to explain
I love how the concrete pit gets deeper over time.
Overall I really like the look of the game with all the bots and the domes and so on.
You... (puts sunglasses on) dig it.
And how everything gets dusty over time
Right! It's the fine details like this that make games amazing.
Paradox is really good at little details like that. I enjoy several of their titles, mostly Cities Skylines and Stellaris.
46:36 Quill: Dome may run out of oxygen. Suzie: That's fine :)
Deka Metr "Mars is very safe"

Oh I love these awkward encounters. I call it 'blind gaming' and it's where quill sits next to some awkward paradox employee and entertains us by having them act in manners that are all too funny.
Can't kill an ecosystem if its already dead *taps helmet*
i still dont know how quill turned from this hipster streamer years ago into basically paradoxes beta tester/promoter! At some point they ll need to hire you full time quill!
pretty sure that would be a pay cut for Quill
Don't be too surprised if you ever find out Quill18 and people like cKnoor are already on Paradox's payroll.
They would be compelled by law to say so would they not?
That would indeed be required to be disclosed, and Quill did put a disclaimer before the footage, as he indeed should.
It reminds me of that space base game
Edit: I meant Planet Base
Planetbase. Yeah, definitely.
You mean the one with the power management?
Reminded me of Sol 0:Mars Colonization
hey Zippo, play any project zomboid recently?
Maybe...
Just wish they'd finish the god damn game already. And thought his name was Spiffo
>LDS movement
Woo boy space mormons I'm sold
The Expanse: The Game.
I'd rather use Wayland :)
wow windmills in mars thats new
Mars has an atmosphere though. But with around 600 pascals of pressure.
love that landing and tiny cute drodeikas come out with giant smiles :D
Love how he checks all the numbers :P
This is EXACTLY the kind of game I want to play. Thank you for the preview!
This game looks like paradox made a game out of the USI colonization mod for kerbal space program, which is nice.
Hi Susie, awesome to see more Paradox games on Quill18 :)
The initial few minutes are VERY reminiscent of Outpost from Sierra in 1994, which is a big compliment.
Really looking forward to watching Quill play this for real after release.
OMG I WANT DIS GAME SO BAD!!!
Awesome! Quill maintained himself longer than the first minute to not say 'What could possibly go wrong' and I mean that in a good way, at the start of a game, disasters are just promised... time for that catchphrase... ;-)
I like the garbage bins outside the houses. That should be useful. Especially if you smoke.
So glad this game is made by a studio from my country Bulgaria.
I want to play this game and create a colony dedicated to making shit potatoes.
No need to create a whole colony. If you're on a tight budget, just drop Leonardo DiCaprio on the planet. He's the poor man's Matt Damon.
Honestly, the game looks much better than what I thought it would be. Kind of looking forward to it now.
The sharable coords was confirmed on the paradox stream. :)
They also picked the "perfect" start location so worth checking it if you want an easy start!
There are much better starting positions. The one in the other stream for example is better.
Now I'm hyped, always loved sci-fi games and once finished this one will be awesome
Such a gorgeous game, with a cozy feel
7:15 What an excellent suicide burn! :)
I am so, so excited for this game. This gameplay video just made me more so. I thought Quill was excellent in the vid and Suzie seemed good too. I could watch more of these two on this game. Can't wait to play this!!!!
I remember a few years ago when I started watching Quill because of his coding tutorials... Forever ago.
looking forward to playing this in real life...
Really excited to see some game play! Waiting until almost an hour in before ppl arrive is original. Can't wait until I get my hands on it!
The roundish tiny rovers look like they're directly from Dune.
This isn't a Quill game without him forgetting something... in this case, the prefabs!
omg this game looks good, please paradox just take my money and let me play this game now
I'm going to wait for a series on this, I don't want to spoil it for myself From what I saw it looks great!
Great a micro management heaven, just the game for Quill /cough ... tnx for sharing :)
I am looking forward to this game. Tropico 4 is my favourite game and it's from the same guys.
I see that the drones were built by Prison Architect's builder's. No logic to how segments are built.
It's like Offworld Trading Company meets Cities Skylines meets Factorio. Awesome!
I love how everything gets dusty as hell caked in brownness after just a few minutes xD
I'm somewhat disaapointed that this seems to be a clone of Sol 0. Looks like Paradox are taking advantage of a small indie game not a lot of people know about.
This seems like a very relaxing game to play.
I don't like how the wires work. Would've been cool if they could be placed under buildings etc. Seems pretty annoying that you couldn't place any wire in the blank space in front of the concrete mine.
Cheesysocks you mean the same blank space which turned into a large pit after a couple minutes?
Yeah that area. Would've been nice to just put the wires overhead that area and just make it easier.
Cheesysocks oh I thought you wanted then in the pit, but it would be pretty cool to have them overhead
With Weyland Corp there, where are the Xenomorph Eggs?
I feel that the UI could be more easily readable. There's not a notification for errors with buildings, nor for how much input/output power/water is going on. Pipes and power lines are cool and realistic i like it.
I can't wait to find any life on Mars and subjugate it for humanity and take it's land and resources, after all this is a Paradox game
Wow, this game looks quite deep and complex.
This looks very much like a game from years ago called Outpost. Outpost was a fun game. Can't wait to try Surviving Mars.
Red Bear47 Outpost was a frustrating game. Would get several hours into playing then it would crash. Again and again. No known fixes. As someone remarked at the time: "Outpost is compost.". Idea-good, execution-bad.

Extracting water from Mars. Bad idea. I've watched Dr Who The Waters of Mars.
Well thats very cool. I was wondering how this game was panning out. Looks like another one to pick up lol.
"It is good to renew one's wonder, said the philosopher. Space travel has again made children of us all", and naturaly "We earth men have a talent for ruining big, beautiful things".
This game reminds me a lot of Planetbase. Very well done
just make sure that you will make more videos because its a realy awsome game
Wait, Surviving Mars is a Paradox game? BUY
(And just a side note: another really cool Mars survival game is RimWorld with the musky Mars total conversion mod)
PS: Did anyone else notice the concrete harvester slowly digs a deeper hole?
Damn I want to play that but hate being dragged into more Paradox DLC BS
You think they will do the DLC crap on game like this as well? Hope not!
Here's an absurd thought. If you don't like the DLC, don't buy it. Just stick with the base game as it came out.
Apart from where they have DLC that affects the end game in the base game as they have done previously. Like religion in CK2.

Oh man, I've been waiting on a game like this :)
looks good! I can't wait to give it a play.
Need more of this!
"I want only shady people on my mars colony"
"b-but Sir..."
"SHADY PEOPLE!! I WANT NO BIRTH CERTIFICATES AND UNPROVEN WORK RECORDS ON THE DOUBLE!"
Sci-fi author: here is how they got recruited. They get a call from the space agency. The agency says "Hey we are colonizing Mars based of tech in your book. So want to lead the colony?"
I'm interested for sure. Keep on top of this. One!
It looks like a lot of fun can't wait for release
IDGAF if quill is shilling this to the ground, I'll buy it. It's skylines in space almost.
this game has huge potencial.
Looks really fun. When does it come out?
Every time I hear them say dome, all I can think of is The Simpsons Movie. I want a mod that allows Homer to drive around the dome on his motorcycle. That alone would make this game worth it.
was hoping you would cover this game :D
I really like this types of games , Planetbase was amazing , sadly they don't update it as often , hope this turns out to be a good game
Sci-Fi author going to Mars leads to faster tech?
It's Kim Stanley Robinson.
They need to make the recharging automatic when in range of a cable.. cuz that gonna get REAL old.
It is 1 hour video and it did not seam like he had to charge anything more than once on maximum speed. Does not seam like alot of micromanaging to me.
Brussels is named after quill18's bigpharma let's play that he did over 43 years ago.
This looks fun. When is the game out?
So much unnecessary micromanaging in this game from the looks of it. Like the loading/unloading, power cables that do not follow the mouse and remember the path, not being able to put solar panels on vehicles and having to remember to recharge them.
They have alot of polishing to do.
Feels like they left the micromanagement in or even increased it to give players something to do. I'm not sure I agree with this design decision and I hope it's just a placeholder mechanic until they have more interesting features in place.
Well, colonizing Mars in real life is probably going to need a lot of "micromanaging", don't you think? :P
Think you confusing this with a an RTS game, it's more of City building/management/etc.
Foxx6699 i felt the same, specially with the solar panels. I mean even todays drones that NASA has on mars, have solar panels.
It might be that the micro management gets less as you gain an actual human presence ON Mars... though I doubt it.
Will you lauch this like stellaris in his first 6 Months?
This looks like a cool theme. It seems to have some odd, uncessery micro-managment in few areas.
it is not really like that. If you make a drone hub in the midle of your build zone and unload the stuff from the drop ship next to it thats all the micro manage you have to do. Quill messed it up with stockpile placements a bit so it was ackward before he actually built the drone hub.
Game Tips I think he means stuff like needing to *manually tell your rovers to recharge*. Ughh... Definitely needs some polish.
+Supadubya
Um, video is almost 1 hour long, he played on max speed and he only sent rovers to recharge once i think. This was when they were still half full or something.
If doing a couple of clicks per rover once per hour is to much micronamanging for you then there are far worse examples out there.
So i really hope he did not mean the rovers because that was very minimal.
What is the final goal of all this building up ?
would be cool if you could import the Twitch sub list as colonist names ;-) renaming would be maybe to much, but atomatic taking names of the list would be cool.
hmm, I was excited for this......was.
Looks like a very enjoyable game.
Hello. Is this game already playable and later linked with steam?
Dunno about that game. So far, Planetbase Mars seems to be superior in every regard. And this is only within the space of most similar games. In a little bit wider range, it has to compete with Aven Colony.
Uh i played Planetbase , all 3 dificulties that were available initially and it was really lacking the content. Here you have much more starting locations, proper research, alot more building space and flexiblity etc...
Also Planetbase had some very silly problems that could easily go into self destruction cascade if you did not know exactly what you were doing and game really did not provide you with that info you had to figure it out yourself.
I do not see these 2 as even comparable.
And there are some hidden stuff as well it seams, mysteries etc.
I am sure we can trust Paradox for this game to be much better than a tiny game like Planetbase.
Well, I mean, okay. We have the usual Paradox quality. Thing is, I don't see it at this point in time. First minutes of the game (/the tutorial) should be all that is required to give you a good taste, and here I don't see that. Okay, it's in development, maybe it was too early to show it to the public, but still.
It doesn't even have a release date yet (only 2018) which probably means late in the year. Polish is the last step. Also, Quill started a standard new game-not the tutorial.
We need the ability to program drones. Either in an easy to learn existing language (ie python-like or js-like syntax) or in some custom language.
I want this game now but I need to wait till 2018
god dammit, paradox, give me a break. every time i successfully put down a game that's eating up all of my free hours, you go and release another new game. it's like you want me to literally superglue myself to my computer.
shes just nervous to be with quill18, the number one paradox youtuber
I would probably be nervous if i was inexperienced community manager babysiting quill with a new game. Especially if i knew the game had some glitches bugs etc...
How amazing is Quill btw? :)
Do we have these robots IRL that can build stuff?
This game looks amazing !
Yeah sure, get Weyland to sponsor your space trip.. what could go wrong?
Haha, Roscosmos(Russia) does sound like a hardcore mode!
Can't wait for this game!
I hear her say "perfect" one...more...time!
Why no UKSA?
Concrete extractor - assuming they meant limestone extractor.
is quill wearing the headset the wrong way around?
I had an idea for a videogame I wanted to create much like this one. Now I don't know how to feel.
When is this game releasing?
