The conditions on the trawler are intense, but the skill and teamwork involved in fishing and processing amidst freezing temperatures is truly impressive. It's eye-opening to see the dedication that goes into bringing seafood to our tables. Respect to these fishermen and processors for their resilience and expertise

I’m the exec chef at a Seafood style restaurant in a Brewery, none of my cooks knew what the different styles of packing methods were for fish. I’ve shown them this video and others like it because I believe we should know exactly how the fish comes from its source to us whether it be like caught tuna, halibut, cod. Awesome video, so educational

What a sterling comment! Truly. Far too many don't understand the impact their meal has on our planet. Or what it took to get it on your plate. I see this and can't help but think, "wow humans are so intelligent and look at our developing selves!" But in the same breathe the other side of the story needs speaking on. We are literally scooping out the fish faster than it can reproduce. Not only that. The trawlers used to make astounding catches that feed our planet... Are the same trawlers dismantling the ocean one fishing trip at a time. I do not believe individuals need to be intelligent to understand how NON-SUSTAINABLE these practices are. If not only for the fish being harvested before they have spawned. Or the razing of our oceans floors where the nets are dragged across the bottom. Tearing out the reefs, microbes and any other fauna in its path. How can we rationalize the technique when each trip out costs the ocean/planet 10+ years of damage and time needed to START repairing back to what it once was.
I know this rant is riddled with grammar errors and countless others. I couldn't stop words from coming forth and realize how little impact it may have. However, leaving a comment on one of the worlds largest Social Media platforms at least gives these words a chance of being read and potentially making someone reconsider their choices and what they will support moving forward..
We are just individuals in a complex machine. If we can learn to work together, we will become the machine. The machine with enough power for positive change! If the powers allow it.
Amazing video. Great technology and capabilities of man are proven here. Now we just need to apply ourselves in a more meaningful and less negatively impactful way of living.

Ignore health and safety codes and youll see people slip up on a few things and have poor routine doing their job when demanded they do it right for the cameras.
This is a great example of workers being paid and treated right, motivated and a well run ship.

Watching this I thought for a moment about how much food I eat, how much it takes to feed my family every day.And then I thought about all the people in the world, and its unfathomable how much we consume in a single day, one single day! Some People can so easily ridicule anyone or anything, like saying you shouldn't be allowed to fish this way using huge nets. I would bet those same exact people dont say shit, as they are at staring into the display case deciding which fish they are going to eat tonight. This here is classic HARD WORK, that most people have no clue about what these fisherman endure. And it's not for everyone, but without men like these, we all would have a lot less to eat. They are a rare breed and greatly appreciated!

(seems neither the fish suffers for a long time) And that all in order to supply milions people with fresh healthy and tasty fish meat! For all critics: Only this type of fishing enables that the whole (civilised) word can buy cheap healthy sea fish. The complete way of the fish from the sea to our plate is here shown perfectly. @@cuff1957 Be polite or don't comment. Maybe you don't need fish meat but most people eat fish because it is tasty and healthy. So industrial fishing is necessary and does a really good job for us. Humans are carnivores and are fully justified to use the natural wealthy which the ocean provides us. Don't believe the overfishing myths. Fishing is regulated and how you can see here, there is enough fish in the ocean absolutely :). There must be certain protection of endangered species, but humans' interests must be respected, too.

Are you used to breaking a freezer directly onto a belt by hand? Most of the Bering sea fleet had completely changed over to using belts to break freezers by 2008. I worked on the Pacific Glacier from 2002-2008, and we pushed our freezers similar to the video, but we also had hydraulic presses we’d push into the freezers. It takes more strength to push em, and breaking the freezer would happen in case up.
I wouldn’t say it’s EASIER, but certainly was a better work out. Freezer guys on that boat were bigger than any other vessel I’ve worked, it had its perks.

let me try to explain this to you, every year Faroese ships get handed a fishing quota, which basically tells them how much they are allowed to fish within a given year. Now if you take the quota away from them, you basically kill an entire nation, because the country main and only industry is fishing. If you take the oil industry away from the Americans, they could not survive either, it's as simple as that. This is not overfishing or greed, this is plain and simple survival, which the Faroese can't without fishing.
