Nah I’ve been around enough to be able to tell when someone is actually freestyling or not… there’s differences and crutches in a real freestyle like certain words they’ll overuse, more pauses, etc. but honestly rarely does a good lyricist actually freestyle unless they’re proving a point that they can

Had to be freestyling, he took to many pauses plus he stayed with the same rhyme scheme as long as he could before he changed it, he was also all over the place trying to continue to connect even if the rhyme wasn’t related. When he pronounced a name wrong and had to correct it and keep going was crazy! Yeah” he free styled that the best he could which I thought was nice under the circumstances. We also have to remember that T.I never wrote on paper! Just like Wayne and J.Z. Never used paper they wrote on the mic! So what T.I. Is doing is not new to him. It’s just like hearing a beat for the first time, they listen then go in the booth and basically free style as much as they can at first then they start to over dub all the parts they don’t like or want to replace or take out, so this is not really new to TIP it’s basically what he’s always done anyway just without the overdubs!

Yea I just disagree… I’ve never heard a freestyler that didn’t really display signs of freestyling that I can pick up on as a former artist myself… and I don’t mean that in an I know better arrogant way it’s just I genuinely just feel real confident that I can tell the difference…
For example. TI doesn’t have many pauses at all. When one line ends the next is loaded with no transition or crutch words… the best rappers in the world all show small signs when actually freestyling… also jay z and wayne don’t truly freestyle well for long periods of time… what they do is better described as just not writing… they go in the booth and then come up with or have memorized a few rhymes at a time to record… then they get to pause maybe think a bit and then punch back in to record a few more lines… jay memory so good he actually will have large parts of verses written and memorized in his mind 🔥..
Also i understand if you’re krs-one or some shit then u believe “freestyle” just means “free of style” so it can be anything 😂 BUT when I grew up and was in it, freestyle meant strictly off the top of the head like king Los, juice world or Harry Mack.. I don’t think any less tho of ti because no one ACTUALLY does that anymore especially in big platform/radio shows with exposure and promo.. i would put money on it that these are memorized rhymes.. btw i would do exactly the same if i was him all the best rappers make sure they’re on point

Most rappers rap according to their own intellect whether your free-styling or mental writing, unless somebody writes your rhythms for you. Tip and Dro started out freestylin against each other around Atlanta (where I’m from) pick a subject and go for it! They came to know each other from rap battles! Back in those days rap battles was a common thing that’s why I said this wasn’t really new to him as opposed to what many people think. Now did he say anything that he already had in his head? Sure he did! But was all of it already logged in his mind? No!
Like I said (which you didn’t address) he kept the same rhythm scheme a long time cause he couldn’t figure out how to get out of it! That’s a sure way of knowing that he’s wingin it! Again he said a name and said it wrong he had to figure out how to recover from that too. So yeah I believe most of what he said was off the dome however I also believe he said something’s he had in his head too. When you think about the error of rap he came up in the subject matter was always GO AT HIM!” So he chose a subject he was used to battling in, that’s why I say it was easy for him to figure out what to say in that scenario. As opposed to picking a subject and throwing it at him he would have stumbled a lot more with that freestyle if that was the case, but if you give Tip a mic and say go at him he could go at you off the done quite easily.
