@martin0mac2000 thanks for your detailed comment I have three wooden playsets in my garage and one of them is a Chuggington, it was far less expensive than a same sized Thomas one..! Yes I have had issues with Toby, found that out on a recent review where I find the Chuggers wooden do not pull through a tight wooden curve due to the sets of three wheels, disappointing to have this fail revealed considering the history of sets of three wheels on wood is a well knows issue
@10LEIGH10 there is a black fleck in the plastic, but the many little features in this set are left unpainted. what I should do is add some painting to this set and show how it could really shine, pretty sure you would be amazed what a little bit of paint in the right areas would do this would be a very simple thing to do in the toy factory, but it seems good detail is not part of the detail of certain sections of the tank and play set, i feel thats rather sad indeed
@ThomastheE2engine yes, if you look closely at the take n play track there is actually a right and wrong way up ( look at the sleepers to see ) even the box artwork has some sections of track upside down, I have to admit it took me a while to work out all the M to F joins. Clearly this says to me this mega set idea came along as some sort of wacky idea. The track system I like the most is the old blue Tomy one, I can't stand the newer trackmaster one, in my books it;s a fail track system.
@TerryMannfan i have had quite a few mails related to the lack of detailing on Thomas sets of today, including the Trackmaster range. It seems good detailing is now a issue where in the past it was generally done. I know there are lots of these sets being bought as learning aids and for children who have disabilities, putting on clear name details is really important. The colour choice of yellow for the Tidmouth sheds is weird. Now we see if anything changes!
@tropicalfishswim thats one of the best comments so far, great thinking there and yes the wooden series does do as you saw really well often the wooden sets will have a very special Thomas which is often a big reason why you may purchase it, I think It's close to the time to do a retro review of the massive Ultimate Tomy Thomas set I purchased 5 years ago and remind us all how a mega set should be done, have not seen Trackmaster pull this off yet
@LEON13858 whenever I see a toy hitting the $300 mark it has me very curious indeed. I have to say the sets I have seen in the shops are very heavy, does this translate to a great set. as I found with the Totally Tidmouth set the enormous box has far less volume of actual toys inside, lots of box bloat to make it impressive in the shops but almost impossible to mail, I suspect the online stores would have issues sending this sort of sized box out without huge postage costs involved
Looking back at this set now, it’s still a nice old school classic. I’ve recently gotten all the fold up playsets to replicate this layout at a thrift store in my town, along with some other Thomas goodies.
@TMRReturns lets hope this massive franchise looks at this video, we all want more detail in the Thomas stuff they pump out Chuggingtion do detail very well! Seems it's not a issue for them
This set could start a brand new adventure for young engineers. And with the soon Dieselworks from the new movie "Day of the Diesels" it will be a great addition to this set.
@Lightninging63 I do like the fold away aspect of the sections of this set, the part I don't like is the neglect for proper detailing and the very messy way the sections join together via a number of small pieces of track in a way the huge b ox is far more impressive than the end result of the set together
@penninefilms I have had quite a few PM's in relation to the missing details in the Thomas sets of today, and sure I had to investigate. I believe the detail is now missing. The Trackmaster series does suffer this same downgrade of detailing. Sure extra detail does cost a little more but this stuff is not cheap, I'm pretty sure the Thomas empire can afford to raise their bar and keep a much closer eye on what they pump out of China The Thomas fans deserve a better product.
@TheLukei in all my Take Along Thomas engines there are changes, one of the biggest is the early ones had all metal ends to the boilers, now they are plastic. I wonder who else knows about the early take alongs ( 2002 era) and the all metal design?
@trainguy111 great choice, and that says much about you I am sure I have a hunch not many people will pick Thomas as their fav. I could almost lay money on it..!
@Legoman242 thats a very interesting choice, totally forgot of this very popular character yes he would add a great alternative element in this set, having this sort of edge would lift this set indeed
He means this was back in 2011. Nia & Rebecca didn’t exist until big world big adventures in 2018. Plus they don’t have Official take along/take-n-play models.
Nia and rebbeca are god aweful characters I mean they had no character development . I mean nia didn’t have an exploit and rebbeca didn’t pull 2 dead diesels down the mainline . Edward and Henry damm it . Tho maybe if we had some tender engines in this set it would have been better Probably James being another main character and Gordon too Then the list would have been Thomas Percy James Gordon Toby Salty Mavis And I guess the troublesome truck can count. There we are the superior character list right here and then get Edward and Henry separately . Now that would be good Who agrees then like the comment . Thanks 👇🏽
@OliverNo12 thats a great observation and well said sure the old fav's are used in the sets and dare say they are the ones which are the start of a great collection
@Lumpyrox1412 those diesels are some custom made ones for a stalled project, based on a ERTL diesel. you may as well call the start of this video mad bomber 1.5, I am sure some will see the BIG connection. just on the new direction of youtube is was spelled out to me at a partner meeting at google HQ I went to late last year, but I still have issues understanding exactly what racy means. even the google staff struggled with a definition. I see it as the tube is G or PG rated now
I agree Leo; Children's toys should feature details. "It's just a kid's toy" should not be a valid excuse for poor quality or missing elements that could improve the quality of the toy.
Toby has always been my favourite...He is just...different? from the other trains I guess. What is missing are all the old ones, Henry, James, Gordon, Harold, Trevor, Daisy, etc.
charity shops are a gold mine my Australian friend brought from one for £1 a collection of the Thomas stories with original artwork very rare to find book :-D and his names Thomas as well.
@BooBooChooChoo561 are you asking for a retro review of my Ultimate Thomas Set I purchased this well before I was on the tube, and I assure you it's an amazing set. I picked it up for $150 and compared to Totally Tidmouth it's a completely different deal, mind you there is 5 years difference in purchase time.
@10LEIGH10 on the aspect of the shake shake bridge your definitely not the first person who detailed to me issues with this set.. I have had quite a few PM's on the now lacklustre trackmaster sets, and it seems there are issues related to details there as well. in all it's a bit rude considering the money this stuff costs and we all know in the past there were some really great sets available I will do a retro review of my Tomy ultimate thomas set just to remind us all of how good it was
the set would be definitley worth it if it had some exclusive characters, some that had never been availiable, or some that have been discontinued for a while. I know the wooden range does this very successfully. Perhaps one of the narrow gauge engines, or an oddball like D199 would be appropriate. Or even the ever elusive Pip/Emma
I used to get the ERTL toys when I was a kid, and it always used to bother me that they never coloured the red rings on the boilers. Fortunately my Grandfather was a bit of a modeller, so he was able to paint the rings on them for me. Considering how much we have to pay (Thomas toys in New Zealand are no cheaper), you'd think they'd be able to go that extra mile and paint the details. I could understand them not doing so if these were budget toys (each paint app costs extra), but they're clearly not intended to be inexpensive.
I fell like this set should have a mail car and Annie and Claribel because they just are better than a ton of cargo cars. Really though there are lots passengers out there!
@Nightshroud99 well NS the wooden sets are super expensive, if you have the cash sure they are the pure Thomas of choice, but reality is most people don't have hundreds and hundreds of dollars for wooden toys when I was a kid LEGO was basically a rich kids toy, thats why I had very little. i have been on struggle street most of my life!
Hi there Quite a big set there and indeed very cheeky of them not to give you the Maithwaite section, but was good that you were able to get it from the charity shop ^^ Brill review once again Leo! Euan
No thomas set could be complete without Gordon, he' my favorite character in the series, only the early series Gordon though, in the later series he just turns into an arrogant jerk most of the time like he forgot all the lessons learned early on.
This set is now on sale in Target Australia for $99, seems to be lots of them in the store
Fricking insane how this is how much things used to cost
@guyoffun Lady would be a interesting addition, she's almost the forgotten star of the past these days, so is Duck
@martin0mac2000 thanks for your detailed comment

@SI3DFilms in the talking engines review I will be putting a Thomas under destructive testing to see just how robust the talking models are
@tropicalfishswim thats one of the best comments so far, great thinking there and yes the wooden series does do as you saw really well

@toontowntrolley8 thanks, many people sight as James as a missing engine, i have to say i agree
@LEON13858 whenever I see a toy hitting the $300 mark it has me very curious indeed. I have to say the sets I have seen in the shops are very heavy, does this translate to a great set.

@psp880 yes I agree, Duck may be caught in a world where it's not easy being green.
I have lots of ERTL Ducks but no Take Alongs
Looking back at this set now, it’s still a nice old school classic. I’ve recently gotten all the fold up playsets to replicate this layout at a thrift store in my town, along with some other Thomas goodies.

At least the engines have painted buffers, that’s extremely rare these days.

@HiroTheJapeneseTrain as I said in the video I feel I grabbed a Friday special
@ShuntingTank043 Mavis is the only girl in the set, maybe Emily would be a curious addition.
i think percy really suits the take along brand its proberaly all in that cute little face
@legokidize yes, it's lacking a tender engine. Thats been a very common thought
This set needs to include James.
And all the steam team (including Nia and Rebecca)

maybe a tender engine or exclusive express carriages. also a roadway character.
Sad that to this day they never made other carriages :(
hello christian.
@@TheOldGuardsVan 👀👀
At least it contains side characters such as salty and mavis.
My favorite is Toby I think that no one is missing I agree with you about the points
@Thatlegorandomguy1 yes Duck is like the long forgotten engine in the franchise
@OliverNo12 thats a great observation and well said
sure the old fav's are used in the sets and dare say they are the ones which are the start of a great collection
I am again seeing this playset in the stores where I live
@Spike123607 thanks
@alexanderprice6 it's amazing how many have asked for James already. And maybe he would be the classic tender engine addition this set needs.
