    Great info! The steering stops are on the wish-bones and you never want the rack to be the steering stop smacking up against the bushings, seals and hyper extending the rack boots.

    Yesss Centering is important.
    But God gave us Looong adjustments on the track ends.
    Centering is NOT a big real life problem.

    Remember to flush your rack and pinion units every 30-35,000 miles. Using the proper fluid or high quality synthetic fluid.

    • @waynes.2983
      @waynes.2983 2 года назад

      On my tacomas like this I never flushed the rack. It never leaked, never gave me any problems at 233,000 miles. Still filled with original fluid.

    • @jamram9924
      @jamram9924 2 года назад

      @@waynes.2983 Service specify flushes tontos the system of contamination. The system is not 100% sealed. Water and dirt enter the system and those hoses break down due to age and heat of the pump and atmosphere. This ends up saving owners money in the end. Otherwise, Toyota would not sell new and remanufactured rack and pinion units.

    The rack on my 09 Camry has started leaking. It seems to be very small now and has only partially covered the outside of the boot, and the level is still good in the reservoir. I suppose it's wishful thinking that changing the fluid(never been done) will stop it? Should I try a stop leak? or just wait until it's bad enough to replace?

    • @matthewflaherty3863
      @matthewflaherty3863 2 года назад +1

      Uhh changing the fluid really won’t do anything might as well try stop leak I would think and just get a little bit of extra life out of it but it will need replaced at some point.

    • @MattExzy
      @MattExzy 2 года назад

      How many miles? Feels a tad early for the rack to go... I'd try a small hint of Lucas power steer stop leak first, see how that goes. It could also be an oil leak from the engine blowing back onto the boot, since the reservoir level remains good.
