With the slower audio, these new videos feel like your older ones. Which is awesome, and gives them a nostalgic and simple feel; perfect for the Basics series. Hope you keep up this format!
I was subscribed to Babish years ago and then started to not like his videos as much so I unsubbed. Randomly saw this in my recommendations and clicked it and based on how he sounded, I thought it was an old video.
Really like the quieter music, overall gives a calmer, more easily digestible vibe. Not so important for normal Binging episodes, but for Basics it's much easier to rewatch.
@Spacialvekter Unfortunately no. I'm not sure what key words to use to try to find it. He used to include the background music in the description of his videos but stopped doing that a long time ago. Have you had any success?
I feel like this video has a better balance between cooking sounds and narration compared to the previous experimental video. Much better in my opinion.
I like hearing the cooking/prep sounds (sizzling, chopping, etc...) and how soft the audio is. This format is very nice! And the steaks look so delicious. I'll have to try making some like this soon
Your original steak basics with banish video is what got me into cooking, and after a long time I still use the recipes from that video to this day. THANK YOU!
I'm with the others, the audio balancing here is much better. Again the audio for the red wine sauce helps distinguish how hot/crackly you want the pan to be upon insertion
I'm really liking the subtle changes to the method of sound and narration. The nice ASMR-esque quality is soothing as well as engaging. Great video. 👏👏👏
I enjoy this new format. The slower, calmer narration makes the information easier to follow while the addition of the cooking sounds makes it seem like I'm there learning. I don't think it would work for binging, but is very welcomed in basics. the music is comforting, but a little distracting. overall, a very welcomed improvement
I just came back home from work, it's lightly raining outside, I made myself a cup of tea and sit under a blanket... This video is nothing less than perfect for such cozy afternoon, thank you 💕
I love the new format, leaving all the sounds in. I'm a huge fan of cooking videos with no talking and just the sounds of the kitchen as well, but you can't deprive us of that voice.
This format was perfect! I feel like the small adjustments you made from the last one were exactly what was needed. This was a great video, can't wait to see more!
Very nice video, every facet feels addressed and given attention. Between the music and the pacing, the sounds in the background, the voice over and the knowledge. *Chefs kiss*
I was pretty rough on your last video but I feel like *this* video captured what you were trying to do with your last one and I really enjoy it. The loveable Babish punchiness isn't lost in the calmer pace, which honestly... Im not sure how you did that but it's great.
I agree with the consensus, audio mix and tone on this one is way better. Feels like a chill explanation without getting so deep into ASMR territory that it gets on my nerves
If you did a whole video on the basics of maintaining and cleaning your kitchen tools (cast iron, stainless steel, wood, knives) with the audio sounds included, the ASMR would be off the charts.
I’ve been watching your content since you made the Aglio Olio, this is one of your best formats with a mix of the cooking and voice over in my opinion. Almost melodic in a way just listening, anyways cheers to you and everyone at the BCU who make such great and educational content, a genuine joy to watch ❤
Pan-searing, yes. But what about microwave-oven finishing the temperature? I read it's perfectly fine as long as there is a way for the moisture to go.
This one’s an improvement on the last one which was …jarring to say the least. However, the music is for sleepy time, not fun kitchen time and the kitchen sounds complete with the dialogue. The classic format is definitely king. Great channel. Great content. No need to change.
For flank steak: If you have an electric carving knife, use it! The twin serrated blades tear up the meat as they cut and make the pieces much more tender than with a normal knife.
The new audio format of the last few videos with lower music and ambient kitchen sounds has been very soothing to the ears. Feels like a music I can listen to all day long. Never knew I needed it in my life. ❤
Looking through equipment list but did not see a listing for your pepper mill/grinder. Was curious as to what you are using as I recently broke my wood one.
Andy, some great vibes in this video. Chill, deliberate narration and nice ambient music. Plus, the sound scape is great with the cooking audio layered over the top of the music. Very well done.
It's so that you can control the flavors more easily. I once made the mistake of using salted butter in a recipe thinking it didn't matter, and it came out REALLY salty. By using unsalted, the chef can control exactly how much salt goes into the dish and how much it brings out the other seasonings. Salt is pretty much THE ingredient in most culinary fields, and how much you put in can make or break a dish, so it's important to be able to measure exactly how much goes in.
If you're going to do a 3rd video on steak (and you should :D), I'd like to see 2 topics covered, sous vide-ing steaks, and dealing with silverskin in steaks. I'm very happy with my sous vide steaks, but always keen to learn more. The silverskin issue is my biggest bugbear, you can get a great looking steak only to find an inedible part halfway though it, by the same token, sometime the cheapest supermarket steaks are free of any silverskin and are fantastic the entire way through.
I respect the desire to experiment - gotta keep it fresh after so many years! I enjoy the subtle end of the spectrum with cooking sounds, but if this is a new format staple, the mixing will need improvement. The last 2 videos have had bits where your voice is drowned out by searing meat, and the cooking sounds become distracting noise rather than a cozy backdrop. Combined with the more monotone delivery, this iteration feels like a hard pivot into the ASMR trend that mutes what I love about your channel/voice. But with experiments comes data, so I look forward to how you develop this refreshed style!
With the slower audio, these new videos feel like your older ones. Which is awesome, and gives them a nostalgic and simple feel; perfect for the Basics series. Hope you keep up this format!
I think he's burning out. Lost the colour in his voice a bit.
Same! Do you happen to know the name of this song? I wanna find it for a chill playlist I'm building for myself.
@@kattymckit Did you ever find this song?
@Spacialvekter Unfortunately no. I'm not sure what key words to use to try to find it. He used to include the background music in the description of his videos but stopped doing that a long time ago. Have you had any success?
@@kattymckit check the description he has a playlist!😊
I feel like this video has a better balance between cooking sounds and narration compared to the previous experimental video. Much better in my opinion.
Jesus loves you ❤️ please turn to him and repent before it's too late. The end times described in the Bible are already happening in the world.
i agree, this has much less "asmr energy" to it and i appreciate it immensely
The audio in the eggs benedict video felt more like a gimmick, here it's a nice, unintrusive addition to the original formula
le slob be on my le knobbe @@L17_8 sous my boulle
Totally agree! This had a much better mix of music & voiceover, as well as the ambient cooking noises.
I like hearing the cooking/prep sounds (sizzling, chopping, etc...) and how soft the audio is. This format is very nice!
And the steaks look so delicious. I'll have to try making some like this soon
This felt just like your classic videos in the original kitchen, I absolutely love that vibe
Except for the extraneous audio. Not at all like the old videos in that regard.
I guess it used to be about "cooking WITH Babbish" in a sense. It was much more like being in the kitchen with him than some sort of sitcom thing.
Really love the audio balance this episode, hearing everything sizzle is fantastic.
Much better format than the last basics video, the last one felt too slow for me. The audio mix is improved as well
Steak Part III: Return of the Rib-Eye
Steak Part III: Revenge of the Ribs
I can see this is gonna be hilarious 😂
Jesus loves you ❤️ please turn to him and repent before it's too late. The end times described in the Bible are already happening in the world.
Steak Part IV: A New Butcher's Twine
Steak Part 3: Starcrust Steakhouse
I'm really liking the subtle changes to the method of sound and narration. The nice ASMR-esque quality is soothing as well as engaging. Great video. 👏👏👏
Nice balance of music in the intro, and real sounds while cooking. That's perfect.
I enjoy this new format. The slower, calmer narration makes the information easier to follow while the addition of the cooking sounds makes it seem like I'm there learning. I don't think it would work for binging, but is very welcomed in basics. the music is comforting, but a little distracting. overall, a very welcomed improvement
loved this so much. Felt like Babby really was teaching us the basics.
I love this new format for Basics. Very informative and relaxing. Wonderful contrast to the upbeat-ness of the other videos.
I like the calm and simple feeling this video has.
6:30 also can add half as much baking soda as sugar, it's basically a pinch, but also helps encourage browning
Presentation wise this might be the best episode of Basics to date. I really love this direction you’ve taken
More cooking sounds in the future, I love it.
The narration tone, and the pauses in between sound just like older babish. I love it!
quite enjoy the little bits at the end where you tend to the cookware too
Hi, I really like when you are calm because it makes me feel calm. I am sending you a hug.
im happy to hear the chopping sounds and the gentle music is wonderful
I like the asmr aspect of the cooking sounds in the Basics series. It works well, and I'm not even a real asmr person. It's just relaxing.
It's probably been pretty hard not being able to do Binging videos but your solidarity with the SAG strike is noted and appreciated.
Love this balance with kitchen sounds and voiceover
Loving the new format for Basics, real soothing to listen to.
After this video I got so relaxed. the nice calm vibe in combination with the food is just simply perfect!
This video format is amazing. Most pleasant experience I’ve ever had watching a cooking video
Audio was great, video length was great without being too much, and it felt more homemade. Loved it
I like this format much better for the basics series! So relaxing!
Love actually having some of the kitchen sounds in the video.
I was pretty rough on your last video but I feel like *this* video captured what you were trying to do with your last one and I really enjoy it. The loveable Babish punchiness isn't lost in the calmer pace, which honestly... Im not sure how you did that but it's great.
I love the more cooking sound heavy videos, its so much more calming
love the new more relaxed style!
What I really want is an audiobook version of you reading your cookbook so I can sleep through my PTSD at night. Your videos are so calming
5:20 how were you able to hold the handle if the pan was pre-heated? Do they make cast iron pans with a thermally decoupled handle? O.o
Loving the natural sounds being included
I loooooove the background music here, such a relaxing addition to an otherwise already great video :)
Really like the kitchen sounds with the music and narration. So relaxing 😌
I prefer the old upbeat and humorous Babish. The last two were a little depressing. But I'll always be a fan!
This sounds like a mix between a cooking video and an ASMR video and i'm REALLY digging it
I agree with the consensus, audio mix and tone on this one is way better. Feels like a chill explanation without getting so deep into ASMR territory that it gets on my nerves
This felt like old babby and I loved every second of it. Refreshing
Steaks looked great, different but delicious. I like that you showed how to get the pan back to studio quality, nice!
I read another comment, suggesting doing “Botched” in the more chaotic tempo. This is perfect for just teaching.
Your book comes out on my birthday! I going to have to get as a gift to my self.
Flank steak is my go to for fajitas. It's just perfect. Skirt is also amazing.
This video timing is wild, literally 2 nights ago i was trying to find a babish video on cooking flank steak
If you did a whole video on the basics of maintaining and cleaning your kitchen tools (cast iron, stainless steel, wood, knives) with the audio sounds included, the ASMR would be off the charts.
love the new more relaxed style!
I definitely like the combo of kitchen sounds and usual, humorous narration
Loving this new calm vibe for Basics. Can’t wait for the cookbook!
Nice touch to show how to clean the pan during the outro!
I’ve been watching your content since you made the Aglio Olio, this is one of your best formats with a mix of the cooking and voice over in my opinion. Almost melodic in a way just listening, anyways cheers to you and everyone at the BCU who make such great and educational content, a genuine joy to watch ❤
Yeah, I'm loving the more subdued audio and cookware sound effects.
Malbec and steak sounds like a fantastic flavor pairing, even if the color didn't come out right.
LOVE basics with babish. This is OG and it’s my favourite
Bar Keepers Friend at the end, love it.
The last 30 seconds with Bar Keepers Friend is the best lesson here.
I'm a big fan of the audio changes!
I highly suggest Alton Brown's skirt steak method for the flank steak.
Wow this is so deeply unnerving without background music
i never thought id see the day when we get steak part II but here we are!
Pan-searing, yes. But what about microwave-oven finishing the temperature? I read it's perfectly fine as long as there is a way for the moisture to go.
Hey Babish, I would love to see your version of a New England clam chowder.
This video makes me feel safe I can’t explain it
Love the focus on the sound fx and the music sounds like minecraft and the steaks look a lot better on television then they do on mobile
Another great video. Thank you!! My cooking has been on point since discovering your channel, economical too!
Thank you Babish! I will be trying these techniques for my carnivore meals
These type of videos is where I signed for years ago :)
This one’s an improvement on the last one which was …jarring to say the least. However, the music is for sleepy time, not fun kitchen time and the kitchen sounds complete with the dialogue. The classic format is definitely king. Great channel. Great content. No need to change.
Spell check. The kitchen sounds COMPETE with the dialogue
Big fan of the new format
Cooking ASMR is everything I've wanted from Binging with Babish. Love it Andrew. Keep it up!
Meanwhile it's the reason I don't watch other cooking channels.
Malbec also makes a FANTASTIC float for a whiskey sour.
Reduce the wine before adding the stock. It's adding them together that results in an unpleasant purple colour, instead of a glossy brown colour.
For flank steak: If you have an electric carving knife, use it! The twin serrated blades tear up the meat as they cut and make the pieces much more tender than with a normal knife.
Can you do a video about chopping, cutting, slicing etc? I'm terrible with knives :(
I'm loving the new format. Also, I feel very bad that I was eating taco bell while watching this
I really love how laid-back this video feels
Loving the new format!
The new audio format of the last few videos with lower music and ambient kitchen sounds has been very soothing to the ears. Feels like a music I can listen to all day long. Never knew I needed it in my life. ❤
Certified Gold!!!!!
Congrats on 10 million.
You should keep this style for all the things on the BCU, I actually couldn’t look away
Someone’s sick 👀 feel better, Andy!
2:19 “Deglaze with a cup of SSSSSSHHHHHKKKKKKKKTTTTT”
4:50 Why use unsalted butter if you're just going to add salt later? This is a serious question; I've seen so many people do this.
Perfectv timing for me to eat my leftover steak for breakfast and watch!
I always thought you rested between bake and sear on the reverse method so that you could slice/serve right after searing.
Can't get enough of the new format! Keep it up!
Could we bring back the old basics? ASMR with Babish is no Bueno.
I respect the desire to experiment - gotta keep it fresh after so many years! I enjoy the subtle end of the spectrum with cooking sounds, but if this is a new format staple, the mixing will need improvement.
