Zuck being portrayed as the good guy tech billionaire in 2023 really tells us how bad the choices are at this point.
The moment Zuck goes from Suck to Pluck.

At the end of the day though, my personal bet is that what it can become at most is either Twitter but for boomers and Instagram-addicted uber-normies, a celebs/corpo/mainstream media circlejerk for them to post their crap without having to be fact checked, exposed and made look like idiots by pesky community notes or independent people, or both.

Zuck created Threads that mirroring Twitter is by far Zuck being Zuck. He created FB by copying his clasmate project, he put InstaStory from Snapchat Story idea, created IGTV from RUclips, Insta Reels from TikTok. Damn, I could go on all day if we talk about Zuck.
Basically the same thing Microsoft did back in the 90's
This is true of basically all industries
Same thing can be said with bitchute, kick, & odysee
Big deal
His “classmates project” was a concept, not a real thing. And “facebooks” existed as part of frat/networking life at colleges for a long time before THE Facebook was created. If anything you could call it a knockoff of MySpace or Friendster that made the bold but smart choice of being exclusive to college students at first, drawing in the “cool” audience of people who weren’t too young to be seen as kids, but not too old to be seen as boomers.
@@thedopplereffect00rewind it back to the 70s. MSDOS is a light reskin of Quick n Dirty OS, and Gates even tried to give the OG a head start but he was on vacation and IBM wanted their product asap so after a couple days, he bit.
It gets worse with Twitter - government agencies, politicians statements, weather alerts, public transport information, local news and customer service information are all sent increasingly exclusively via Twitter so these agencies, companies and individuals don't have to pay money to inform the public via their own infrastructure. Disenfranchising anyone without a Twitter account.
The fact that meta literally calls their software suite “the fediverse” tells me everything I need to know
Meta didn’t coin that term.
The fediverse is a concept in P2P tech for social media, popularized by ActivityPub. "fedi" is intended as "federation", or decentralization. By "joining the fediverse," Threads will integrate with mastodon.
they didn't coin that term and they aren't calling their software that. they're saying they're going to join the fediverse, which means they're federating

Nostr is a bit better as relay owners don't decide what you see. Though, it also relies on centralised servers (for usernames and profile pics) which open it up to potential exploits, it requires niche lightning wallets that support LN-URLs for payment, they're vehemently against p2p techniques and expect trusted relays to support traffic for the entire network (which will lead to paid relays becoming the standard), it doesn't obfuscate traffic by default, etc.
There is no good solution. Just stop consooming

Among other things: Threads is not available in the EU, does not have a web interface, does not allow users to de-link their instagram accounts.
I'm just wondering how successful it'll be. It'll probably have a high user count, but I don't feel like it will destroy Twitter. The content on threads is VERY sanitized, and many people on Twitter want to post unhinged or inappropriate stuff. They'll go to threads and get banned or muted really quickly then drop it forever.
I think it'll be like Instagram Reels and RUclips Shorts VS TikTok. The former have large audiences, but TikTok remains as large as ever.
I think it'll just be Google Plus. Forgotten pretty quickly.
@OneNationUnderGodOnly2Genders That's kinda nonsense tbh. You're on a Google platform in the first place and likely have an IOS or Android device, and most likely use Windows or Mac. Your data is already being farmed pretty heavily. And if you personally dont, most people are, and they're mostly fine with it. Facebook and Instagram mostly exist as data farming platforms and they have hundreds of millions of users each.
As for the 'being muzzled stuff, I think that's just drama queens who will do shi t posts and get banned and cry about freedom of speech or whatever. Most people don't get banned, and there are limits to shit.posting on any platform(even platforms which 'encourage freedom of speech'). And if you get banned, make another account and stop hitching about it. Unless you get IP banned, and which is pretty rare.
@OneNationUnderGodOnly2Genders They don't want that because they've been told they don't want it. No real measurable damage has been found save for a minority of users nor a use beyond advertisers selling you shit. Everyone worries about power abuse by the government but then it only happens to less than 1% of people.

One major benefit that threads has none of the competitors have is existing users. It re-uses your followed people from instagram, so if you were following a celebrity or whatever and they have both a twitter and Instagram (Which most of the bigger ones will), you go on threads and bam - all the people you follow are already there. The recommendations / feed is already set up. This makes the barrier for entry on threads significantly lower than on other platforms where you need to manually set up and then re-find the people you want in your feed.
For that reason Mastodon isn't going to kill twitter. Threads can - as long as Elon doesn't kill it first.
Google Plus launched like that and it didn't work
@@JukaDominator Google Plus was trying to dethrone a well-run, successful and entrenched rival. @@JukaDominator Your example further proves my point. Where would google get the people you do social media stuff from? Gmail? Google chat? No one used Google products to do social media stuff pre-google-plus it was all business or notifications for other platforms. No one uses Twitter primarily to follow their co workers / boss. Even if people wanted to use Google plus they would still need to manually find people to follow, and he way circles worked created additional overhead
This is the one thing threads actually has. It can take people you follow on Instagram (or Facebook even) which are existing social media platforms primarily used for doing social media. The actual user experience is little setup to get running

@@nobodynever7884nah FAM, SKILL is the issue. Maybe your friend should apply to the job.
This is the particularly interesting thing about social media platforms as businesses. Sure, you can spend tens of billions of dollars and "buy" one, but the product immediately loses all of its value if you fundamentally change it since there's virtually no barrier of entry for a competitor to sweep up all your former users. Your customers and the content they create are your product, not your platform, so the platform is worthless if you push them away.
His shilling isn’t gonna get me to Facebook but them cheeks might just do it

The entire point of forcing users to delete their instagram account just to get rid of a threads account is to make threads a place you can't leave even when you want to. It's a trap.

I’m more worried about if Meta is trying to embrace extend and extinguish the fediverse/mastodon service.
I'm more curious if meta isn't just autosigning people. Who the hell just flocks to a new social media site en masse?
@@robertpaulson2052 it’s very clearly autosigning or else there would be custom follows based on your instagram feed as soon you open it on first start
While I won't personally touch threads (the Zuck has taken far too much of my data as it is), I think there is an iota of a chance that it's supposed upcoming integration with ActivityPub could make it a lot easier to interact with people through Mastodon? I'd rather all of the soulless tech giant social media sites explode, but if everyone is going to flock to them, being able to interact in some capacity without an actual threads account feels like the best we're going to get. Though I'm not sure on the specifics of how that's going to look, probably too good to be true.

Social media and it’s consequences have been a disaster for the human race.
how did they not have those features. they can hire as many developers as they want
cause they fired as many as they want too.
We started on facebook memes only to go back to facebook memes. The circle of life. 😂
Bluesky should probably be mentioned somewhere in there. It's run by Dorsey, who made Twitter. If the hackerman did it once, he'll probably do it again.
as much as i hate twitter, threads is definitely going to have the same "community guidelines" treatment from zucc so its just going be worse than twitter later on
I don't think anything will ever truly save anything Meta from their own partisan "community guidelines".
Threads is like in alpha 0.0000001 right now.
I don't always agree with your takes, but your videos are the reason I left Twitter and Reddit for Mastadon and Lemmy, and helped me with my OPSEC
Same. Lemmy already has some amazing apps, and Sync and Boost are literally converting into Lemmy apps too lol
Honestly, what is even the point? What are you using those websites for?
@@JukaDominator For me, I mainly use Mastodon to follow people, mainly artists, that I find interesting to see what they've been making.
Lemmy is great for talking to other people interested in a niche topic, and seeing the best content around those topics thanks to the upvotes/downvotes
@@st.altair4936 If those sites have RSS I'm in, then I don't actually have to visit them.
@@JukaDominator they aren't websites, they are protocols. You missed the whole point
Me and my ancestors have survived thousands of years without Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Whatsapp or Snapchat. We will survive without Threads as well.
Threads forgot to include basic CRUD functions into their web app?? That’s hilarious
The zuck actually hurried the release when he saw what musk was doing.
A bit smart but risky because the signup surge isn't guaranteed to have a second bump when he integrates all the other functions.
Imagine talking about free speech and then going on to shill Mastadon. Actual fed shit lmfao. No thanks, I'm good.
Bro .. I have been watching your channel every day. Keep up the content man. Thumbs up for you !

They'll probably add the needed additional functionality as soon as possible, I think they merely saw an opportunity to get a ton of users immediately and did not fail to respond to this opportunity by making the service public, even if it is in a rough state.
mastedon is worse than twitter when it comes to censorship. I'd rather have a limited twitter account than a censored mastodon account.
Fediverse instances usually involve strict content censorship, but Twitter banwave comes out of nowhere. Twitter DO censor but without proper rules, which I think is even worse.
You got to be on the right server for some reason most of mastodon is communist i don't get why they would want to use this instead of a more mainstream site.

thanks for telling me about threads that it will need my insta account deleted as well.
I was already not in mood to make an account over there, but this gave me an extra reason to not even go and explore there now.
I'm hoping to get rid of social media from my life
Fucking rather continue to swim in the twitter sewer than freakin cuckerburgs clone app
Marc obviously rushed it, that's why it's not feature complete. The reason he pushed it so quick was due to Elon's recent rate limit. Threads will evolve and I have to give props to Marc for that clever move. I'm not a fan on him, but we have to acknowledge that smart move.
It's really weird how Facebook beat better websites like Myspace. A real coincidence.
