I've lived in NZ for all 30 odd years of my life, but something about videos like this are a good reminder of how beautiful it is. I honestly forget sometimes. 😄
Thanks for taking us on this train trip. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I haven't done it for a number of years, but still fine it breathtaking. Hope you have a special 2024 wherever it takes you.
Lovely vid , glad you like the trip , I’ve done it in winter and it’s great , the train passes my farm just out of Christchurch and always think back to my time on the train when I did the trip ….its fun to do the trip by road but so much better by rail
Such stunning views, I love the large windows on the train and that open area. That would be so refreshing in warm weather! Nick fell asleep 😆 I wouldn't want to miss the views!
I was soo jealous when I saw this. I lived in NZ 55 years and this is one train tri p I never got to do. I have seen programs on the trip here in the UK. I have done the Auckland to Wellington trip which was also great but it's a long journey. Glad you liked it. Sadly with getting older I won't be returning to NZ even to see family. This was one thing on my bucket list I won't be doing. Great video thanks! 😁
The Southern Alps is where the Australian and Pacific meet creating the mountain chain. Did the Scenic Plus crew give you any complementary snacks (from the Cafe carriage) as a replacement for the gourmet meals that is normally served to Scenic Plus passengers?
You're right Nick, there are parts of NZ that are very reminiscent of places in the USA ....and others that remind me of parts of Europe. It's a small country but the landscape is so varied.
Hey all the Kiwis here, I'm 22 y/o and am from India, I got a scholarship from Auckland university. How do you think opportunities are for a foreigner in NZ.(computer science) I love NZ and am thrilled about having a chance to live there but what is the job scene like and do you think it'll be a good idea for me to relocate there. P.s : I'm just 22 and lived my life alone. I don't have my parents and am genuinely looking for someone to guide me. Any tips or advise from you guys would be appreciated. Thanks❤
NZ is a small country so opportunities will be limited. But if you got scholarship definitely go for it. You are young. Explore the world while studying. You can always move to Australia or somewhere else after studies. Life is full of surprises.
Hi, I’ve done the TransAlpine a couple of times with my dad when he was in his late 80’s as a boys day out (my video ruclips.net/video/OvBacmwiDFw/видео.htmlsi=ZRn3mnoKJiMGRXBb) . I can also highly recommend the road trip version especially in winter , done that many times (my video ruclips.net/video/JN7pXJSZSrY/видео.htmlsi=BA9L4tLF1tYHHWE8) which ever way it’s one of my favourite NZ trips for it’s beauty and variety.😀
Very cool guys. I know you probably read this on the train but I laughed when the Canterbury plains where labeled as the agricultural heart of New Zealand. The agricultural heart is the Waikato.

The TranzAlpine goes by my house. It wasn't in the video though. Thanks for posting this.

Wow! Yes we are soooo grateful for the experience ❤️
It's wild that two countries on opposite ends of the earth can be so similar, and then Australia and NZ are so different! Blows my mind 😊
This world we live in is so crazy!!
Gotta admit, I want a cow too! Haven't quite figured out how that will work either lol :)
LOL we'll figure it out somehow.... right?
Happy New Year🎉🎉
Happy new year!!!!

They didn't, they just refunded the Scenic Plus customers the "plus" upgrade price and then you could still sit in the Plus area
That looks so gorge❤❤
It was such a fun day

So true.
For another, and totally different, perspective, on Arthurs Pass might I suggest YT video “Arthurs Pass Snow Train”.
Great suggestion!
I'd like to do that adventure!!
You would love it!
welcome to aotearoa land of the long white cloud
there used to be a dog that would wander over to the Train and get a pie from the buffet guy at Arthurs Pass. Pleased you're loving it.

Get a pet cat. I've travelled to Spain around Spain back to the US then to Mexico. Cats are more portable than cows.
