    Phil Hughes' passing was the reason why Johnson was moved by hitting Kohli. It unfortunately took the competitiveness out of him

    The reason that Mitchell Johnson was so rattled by hitting Kohli was that it was really soon after Phil Hughes had passed away. This was the first series after his death. So it was very fresh in the players' minds. Especially the Ozzies.

    Nick and Gabe the one with Mitchell Johnson hitting Virat Kohli. To put this into context it was in 2014/15 at Adelaide Oval First Test and this took place shortly after Phillip Hughes sadly passed away. That’s why Mitch was clearly visibly upset when Virat got hit.

    Guys just one point, you have to understand the difference between a bouncer(which bounces and is totally legal) and a beamer which is totally illegal and basically a full toss at the head. If you bowl one you get a warning, and if you bowl a 2nd you're banned from bowling for the rest of the match. It's a seriously dangerous delivery because the batsman are expecting the ball to bounce. The one Head copped in this compilation was a dangerous Beamer from Mark Wood at the Gabba 18 months ago, he still went on to get a game changing 150, in fact I think he was on 120 odd when this happened. It's great how he shrugged it off and said out loud "ah that's a good hit you got me" when it happened. It's very lucky it wasn't much worse because as Nick pointed out his glove took some of the pace off.
    The Beamer is also the reason Mitchell Starc got so angry at the Indian bowler (can't remember his name sorry), during the 20/21 series. It's just not allowed in cricket- when it happens the bowlers claim it was an accident and that's probably right about 80% of the time.
    When Mitchell Johnson hit Virat there it was only a month or 2 after Phil Hughes died, which was why Johnson was so shaken by it, and he became reluctant to bowl bouncers after hitting Kohli.
    The first one was Bumrah hitting Marcus Harris in the 2018/19 series again pointing out the many weaknesses Harris has who's supposedly meant to take over from David Warner when he retires. I don't think Harris is test class personally.
    And the Riley Meredith bouncer to Marcus Stoinis in the big bash- that's just a brilliant bouncer, fast, accurate and Stoinis had nowhere to go. Thank God for helmets.
    Btw I requested a reaction to the bouncer barrage England copped from Australia during the 2017/18 series when Cummins Starc and Hazlewood were all at their peak pace and aggression. Please do that one if you can- I doubt cricket Australia will care if you react to that one. Gabe will love it- it's pure aggression and no beamers; just all vicious bouncers.
    No one was spared - Anderson Broad Curran Root Moeen Stoneman all copped
    It.

    mitchell johnson was very tough and he has tussle going on in that 2014-15 series ind tour aus with virat kohli and after that ball on helmet fight carry on but just before that series aus player phil hughes lost his life hitting on the helmet so that was natural minor reaction from jhonson

    The one where Johnson hit Kohli was the first match the Aussies played after Phil Hughes died, a week or two after it happened.
    So you can understand the concern Johnson had when he hit Kohli's head.

    I think you re getting Marnus repeated concussions mixed up with Will Pucovski. The only time I recall Marnus getting hit was off Joffra Archer ironically when he came in as concussion substitute for Steve Smith at Lords in 2019.
    In this years ashes he handled Mark Woods lightning fast spell at Headingley pretty well and got through it , but then ended up getting out to Chris Woakes shortly after 😡.
    He also came in as concussion substitute for Cameron Green last week in the first odi against SA and scored a match winning 80 not out

    The cricket helmet came from horse rider's helmets. If you watch a slow motion video it shows the ball pressing the helmet into the head this should never happen plus add ice hockey visors so it never goes through some helmet have closed the gap to prevent it from going through and that also works either is fine.

    Stuart Broad was hit in the face with a bouncer, went through the grill on his helmet and broke his nose quite badly, was never the same batter after that lost all his confidence. Bowlers are not intending to cause damage to the batter, but sometimes it happens. Andrew Strauss was cut a few times in the Ashes by bouncers hitting him in the helmet, good thing they have introduced is the concussion substitutes, although not so good when it is Marnus as you can't get him out. After what happened to Phil Hughes they have tried to improve the helmets and the protection that the batsmen have, but we all enjoy a good bouncer, when we are not facing it.

    Now days cricket helmets are really solid when a bowl hits batsmans head the helmet can avoid 70 or 80 percent damage helmets are good now days so no doubht about that

    Probably the most cringe worthy dangerous delivery was the Jeff Thomson to Phil Tufnell delivery at the WACA back in the 70's. Jeff Thomson at full speed hit Phil Tufnell in the place that shall not be named and it absolutely crushed his plastic box. Tuffers says they had to use welding equipment to extract him from the entanglement of his manhood from the box. He also says he has made a career out of the story so it wasn't all bad.

    OK IN BASEBALL the pitcher is pitching the ball to get strikes cause hitting the batter get him on first base
    NOW IN CRICKET the bowlers are trying to shake up and make the batsman scared by hitting the batsman in the ribs i the bread basket or in the ummm gonads
    but the bowler never wants to see a ball bounce over the head of the batsmen cause it will be a wide and may bring 4 runs

    • @scottosborne2915

    • @scottosborne2915
      @scottosborne2915 Год назад

      @silverrahul Two legal bouncing deliveries are allowed per over which pass over the shoulder but below the head of the batsman. The theory is that if the ball goes above the head of the batsman it is called a wide - notwithstanding the two-bouncer rule

    • @scottosborne2915
      @scottosborne2915 Год назад

      @silverrahul and yes they do bowl more bouncers in tests but what you see most are not over head hight its just the camera angle that makes it look that way the can only tell if a side angle is shown

    • @samsowden
      @samsowden Год назад

      @silverrahul over the head is wide. over the shoulder limited to twice an over, after that it's a no ball (one an over in white ball cricket). it is more of a guideline than a rule in tests, if the umpire thinks the batsman could have reached it if he'd tried.
