The song when he is on the other side on the smoke / crash is the best soundtrack i ever heard. They have almost everything to thanks Hans Zimmer for. Without him this movie would not been as good.
FUN FACT: Shirley Walker and Mark Mancina were also involved in the score. Eventually after collaborating Zimmer, they took their own path. Shirley Walker did Final Destination, Mystery Men, Turbulence and Batman, while Mark Mancina did Speed, Twister and Planes.
@@timwarheit4908 I actually remember walking out of the theater and that's all we could say about it (it was Top Gun for NASCAR). That, and you couldn't hear the rental car race scene over the laughter!
1:28 This is an exciting scene that makes me goosebumps. Everyone (not mine thank God) who ever had a serious car accident knows how difficult it is to come back. Greetings from Germany
Equivalent scene in Top Gun: Merlin: Good recovery. Let's get in there and help Ice. Let's get back in the game. Maverick: No, it's no good. Slider: Goddamn it. Maverick's disengaging. Iceman: I knew it. Shit! Merlin: Get in there, come on. What the hell are you doing? Ice won't last down there alone... Maverick: Talk to me, Goose. Talk to me, Goose. Merlin: Maverick! Controller: Maverick is reengaging sir!
I never understood why more people don't recognize this. I have been saying it for many many years. This movie is top gun in cars, nearly scene for scene.
1:25-1:27 i can read claire's lips and she is saying Come on, Come on meaning she really knows cole is going to make it. Makes this scene more intense imo.
I pulled the same thing off exiting the tri oval in a big wreck online NR2003 barely missing 3 or 4 cars, one of best memories and still have the replay
Ironically, this scene was baffling in the theater. Accelerating into the wreck, not slowing down for the yellow flag (which I assume was about 55 mph at Daytona?), and not talking to his crew chief made it appear like he was suicidal. I remember thinking how strange it was that such a by the numbers summer popcorn flick would take suck a dark turn - no pun intended. Then when he pops out cheering and guns it (again, on a caution), I realized "oh, this is just REALLY stupid... I get it now!"
You also gotta give kudos to Shirley Walker and Mark Mancina, who were also involved in the score. Eventually after collaborating Zimmer, they took their own path. Shirley Walker did Final Destination, Mystery Men, Turbulence and Batman, while Mark Mancina did Speed, Twister and Planes.
0:55 Camera Pickup leading the pack 0:59 Trackside camera with orange caution pylon And the smoke effect guy, plus lots of inconsistensies. But who cares, still the most awesome racing flic ever!
Unfortunately, Tony Scott, the director of this movie as well as Top Gun, died in 2012. That’s not to say a sequel can’t happen though. If anything, I think either James Mangold, Joseph Kosinski, or Ron Howard could pull it off.
Out of all the safety changes that NASCAR made after Earnhardt's death, not racing back to the caution was one of the more sane moves they made. I still remember back in 2000 at Atlanta (spring race, I believe) where Tony Stewart had spun around just before the start-finish line in the tri-oval and was facing towards oncoming traffic. While they were racing back to the caution at around 175-180 mph, someone almost clobbered him trying to pass someone else. Had it been a couple of more inches, Stewart would have been the big name taken away from the sport that year. NASCAR made a lot of changes in the post-Winston Cup era that really caused people to turn away from the sport, but not racing back to the caution wasn't one of them.
The King's Dominion theme park a little ways outside of Richmond, VA had the Days of Thunder ride. It was a theater ride where the seats moved and that tilt was part of the ride. It damn near through you out of the seat.
Zimmer was the guy in charge of the score, however Shirley Walker and Mark Mancina were also involved in the score. After collaborating with Hans, they took their own path. Shirley Walker did Final Destination, Mystery Men, Turbulence and Batman, while Mark Mancina did Speed, Twister and Planes.
My assumption is he drove thru the mess as the caution was coming out. He got thru it and got his confidence back and when the race resumed he was back on.

It totally captures that feeling when you get through a stressful situation.

Man Hans Zimmer is just a freaking genius. No one puts me into a mood like he does.

I always turn up the volume on my tv and surround sound just before he goes through the smoke, love it
Dead Gipsy , get a great surround system or in car Bluetooth.. You can feel the sounds down deep lol
Every time I clear a traffic jam "I'm through it Harry. I'm outta here"
Tom's is a master of show don't tell. His characters through their actions always show us who they are. I love it man.
Talk to me Goose..
He was probably thinking that when he went through the reck
I swear they should have just called this movie "Top Gun but with racecars".
Lol not that I'm complaining because it's still awesome!!!

There are days when I can not drive in the right lane for that reason
Such a great scene. Always watch this after I accomplish something tough.
This is literally Top Gun in cars. This moment is exactly the same as overcoming the fear of the jetwash in Top Gun :D
I always love the no caution racing lol
Man i have to see this movie again. So intense
I love the part where he hits the guy in the rear bumper and then his engine explodes. It's live a reverse Ford Pinto.
1:50 always made me smile
Such a good movie, always gets talked so badly...but it was the first movie I seen in the theaters with my brother and dad. Awesome

at 1.10 you can see a dude on the track with a smoke machine in his hand lol.
RobinHoodUKIP Wow good catch. Would not have seen that without you.
I saw that guy, that’s hilarious
Wow!!! Nice catch

All the incidents, in this movie, depicts actual incidents in NASCAR over many years
If you watched this as a kid and didn’t want to be a nascar driver then you built different lol

it's amazing Hans Zimmer basically scored this movie on the fly. Just, insane.

The music @ 1:44 rocks :-)
Always loved how in the movie he’s just weaving though cars like there standing still all the way to the front🤣.
yeah the magic of movies. Never seen in a real race someone passing so many so fast.
I did that in a motocross race once after I fell down off the gate I was passing the back of the pack till I crashed big time off a tabletop jump 😂
"Cole, you can drive through it! I know it. I know it in my heart."

See Dale Earnhardt leading the pack awesome.
I wish I had a race car like that to take to the local round track on Saturdays.
Just saw new Top gun movie. Now they need to make days of Thunder 2
@ 0:23 the car on the right has "THANKS RICK HENDRICK" written on the back.
Cole Trickle..... let that sink in. Cole. Trickle.
This movie needs more scenes like this !
Racing back to the yellow was probably one of the worst things in racing history other than no seat belts! 😂😂
I typed in Days Of Thunder into youtube to listen to the OST. But now I'm watching movie clips instead. I had a feeling this might happen :D
NASCAR announcer reminds me of the Pokémon stadium announcer's voice
"Sparks are flying on all sides!"
"Cole Trickle's managed to hang on!"
Forget the calamity remember hope and belief in yourself.
0:55 Camera Pickup leading the pack

There should be a days of thunder 2 sequel with Tom Cruise with The same director

Wow this movie is sooo right. THe best director, the best actor and even the Pope JP2 himself in car #18.
the music makes this movie
A ton of cars spin out and it's still a green flag! HAHAAHAH!!!
Sean OBrien before NASCAR went insane they would race to the caution

That’s what you’d call cutting it a bit too close.
best scene in the movie and best music D:
At 0:50 and 0:59 Cole Trickles Mello Yello car can be seen, major flaw in continuity

I'm through it Harry!
At 59 seconds you can see the camera on the low side of the track .
I dunno about you, but when I see smoke and cant tell whats going on when driving... I accelerate into it lol.
camera tilt at 1:58 love it.

RIP Tony Scott.
"i'm through it Harry" "Ha ha I'm out of here" (on a caution lap?)
My assumption is he drove thru the mess as the caution was coming out. He got thru it and got his confidence back and when the race resumed he was back on.
jsdzx Yeah it just looks weird the way they edited it.
Talk to me Goose.
Para cuando una segunda parte de esta maravilla???
If I could drink Fiji the rest of my life I would
Because back then they raced back to the caution. The whole rule that the field slowed down at the yellow wasnt started until after 2000.
0:59
It’s a mello yellow car that crashed
And now, “Days of Thunder: Trickle”. Cole as a crew chief that has to get back in a race car to win an important race.
I loved that bit when he finished nelly got through it
6 car crash and no caution flag. Just keep racing lol
Geht mir ständig so, wenn ich aus ner 80er Baustelle rauskommr

Yes you are, Lloyd!

So, you always thought I go High, right? Big mistake, you thinking.
If you pause at 0:59 you can see the #51 in the crash lol
Cole trickle has to be the most stereotypical race car driver name you could have.
