  • On March 4, 2018, a crew funded by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen found the USS Lexington CV-2, an aircraft carrier that sank on May 8, 1942 during the Battle of the Coral Sea. This footage includes the Lexington nameplate on the stern of the ship, and a 5-inch gun on the port side.

    My father was a survivor of the Lexington sinking. His name was Ernest Hutton.

    I am lucky enough to know a survivor, 17 at the time, 96 now and doing fine.

    Lady lex is my favorite aircraft carrier. Even above the famed USS Enterprise CV-6

    A good friend of mine's dad passed away tonight, 7/21/20... He was on the Lexington when she went down during the Battle of the Coral Sea. RIP hero.

      He was still onboard when the navy scuttled the ship, He must have held his breath a long time - Wow

    the ships hull is in 3 pieces. the usn learned alot about damage control from the lost of lady lex. she made it more than 100 miles from the battleground only to blow up and have to be scuttled.

    Wow Thanks for posting this. My father was one of the lucky ones that got off the Lady Lex I use to have his watch that he had when he jumped into the water from the flight deck. The decked got bombed. one of the battleships i think it was sent torpedos into her to sink her so the Japanese couldn't try to salvage anything off her

      One of my good friend's dad died tonight, 7/21/2020. He was 96...he went down on the Lexington in the battle of the Coral Sea...

      It wasn't a battleship. American battleships didn't carry torpedoes. It was the destroyer _Phelps_ that fired the torpedoes to scuttle the Lexington.

    my dad had a shipmate on the lady lex he gave him a photo of it when they met up my dad was from Lexington mass i have the photo
