  • While flying the other night on Enigma's Cold War Server I found myself alone on the way to the main combat, when a popup contact appeared on my EWRS picture report. There was an F-14 in close and coming in hot. He was hugging the deck which must be why he didn't show up sooner, but I was stuck head on with him without to much time to react.
Seconds after I was warned of the new contact I already saw missiles in the air and coming my way, which led to this dogfight. Seeing an F-14 heading your way in a Mig is not a great feeling, but it led to a really good fight with a win in the end!

Usually props here, like the analog physics chess, but this was every bit of that. Good discipline on holding the guns on that snapshot. So funny as halfway through I'm noticing I have been leaning to the left about 60deg, stop myself, and as soon as you turn I'm leaning the same to the right 🤣. Good comms, well executed splash. Thanks for posting! You are going to make me eat up months learning the MIG!

The Mig-21 is very rapidly becoming one of my favorite aircraft in DCS, which I really didn't expect. I find it really fun to fly as it requires a lot of discipline to do it right. It can fly extremely well if you keep it inside its proper envelope, but it will punish you HARD if you step outside of that, meaning it has a very high skill ceiling. One of my favorite things about it though is that it has an IFF system, and is one of the only cold war jets with that. Using the IFF and the EWRS picture I can get a much better sense of situational awareness going into a furball, which lets me go in far more confidently and can help me make better decisions on an engagement.

Congrats on that kill- you earned it :)
that was one of those tough fights...
By the way- in the last thread we discussed, I left you a message- to get rid of the lens outline you have to uncheck the "enable HMD mask" checkbox and leave the rest as is ("crop to rect" checked, and "use system resolution" checked) and it should give you the same screen you have now but without the lens outline :)

I can't believe I didn't figure that one out before, but going forward that's going to make my videos look a lot better. Thank you so much!

@@newbiefodder Happy to have helped :)
By the way I can't believe they keep that as an option :D To what aim!? Or at least- it should be disabled by default.

Ya that's still something I need to improve on in the Mig-21. With a lot of the WWII planes I can fly just by feel, but I'm not quite there yet on the Mig-21. I definitely could have done better on this fight, but I thought it was an interesting one to show especially as it turned around on me at one point, but was recovered. Thanks for the tip!
