I absolutely love the fact that they acted very childishly, even in their teens (presumably they were both 15-16 here)! It just goes to show how important it was that they grew up on their own in this big island with no one else. And for those saying that the movie is gross because they’re cousins: the plot is supposed to be during the late Victorian era, when it was common for cousins to marry each other. Secondly, they were stranded there when they were like 7 years old and grew up completely on their own. Now they’re teenagers, puberty kicks in, I think it’s reasonable that they would have feelings towards each other.
Having them just being surrounded by nature and each other allows them the complete freedom to be themselves and not getting influenced by other people.
Watching this on blu-ray is amazing. The color of the ocean and the waves in the background is simply breathtaking. It's one of my favorite scenes just for that reason :)

They were only shipwrecked when they were about 8. Before that they lived in the modern world so they do know a little bit about civilization. Their late uncle Patty maye have also taught them a few things. :)
I still don’t know why this movie got unbelievably panned by critics The scenery is lush and gorgeous and these two have much better chemistry than previous versions Okay the acting is cheesy but the movie does paint a real picture of what happens to two youths cut off from society in order to survive on their own and ultimately depend on one another
That's exactly it: critics liked the cinematography but hated the acting and dialogue. Also hard to believe they built that huge bamboo house all by themselves.
The acting was great I would say.... Apart from the instincts, their behaviour was a mix of how children act as adults and vice-versa on different situations.
it is about the beauty of nature and how all of these things that we do on a daily basis, like loving and caring for eachother are going to happen regardless of the place in which you live or at what point in time you live. I suppose it also shows how wonderful life is without all of the irrational and idiotic human traditions, this movie is life, it is everything, truly wonderful.

The biggest shame is that Brooke didn’t get to star in more bigger roles or romance type movies after Blue Lagoon, the other movie that Brooke was supposedly famous for was Endless Love but I personally find it to be very boring and the plot lacklustre and strange, even with Brooke being in it, its one of the most boring movies I’ve seen, and after that she starred in a few movies that ended up being flops like Sahara and Brenda Starr and the rest were lacklustre films where she were just a side/minor/background character, so much has been wasted on Brooke’s talent and beauty.. I kinda wished they had made her the female lead in some of the 80s/early 90s memorable movies such as Dirty Dancing, Mannequin, Pretty Woman (Tom Hank’s) Big, Ferris Buellers Day Off, Top Gun, Back to the Future, Weird Science, Just one of the Guys, When Harry Met Sally etc. I know some of these movies, maybe Brooke wouldn’t have fit the role or image that the film wanted their females lead to portray, but some of these films Brooke would’ve been amazing in, but saying that I don’t wish the original female leads of these films to be replaced by anyone else, cause they’re perfect as they are, but in an alternate world, I definitely wouldn’t have mind seeing Brooke being starred in these films instead, would’ve been so much more interesting seeing her in more films as successful as these, it’s kinda hard now to just rewatch Blue Lagoon on repeat just to see Brooke Shields in her prime 😅😅
