Always nice to see and hear a Vintage pair of JBL's . i have owned a few pair of these and recently bought a pair if PIONEER HPM 100's . very close in sound and deliverance ! .
@@dennisheuvelmans well at least you had not to restore their drivers, mine are all in need but they still sound good allthough they demand more from a amplifier
a very nice 70´s system and it seems with some more modern help to make it even better, i had the luck of having a father who spent fortunes in hi-fi gear that i´m using today
The tapedeck model is from 1992 and the L100 is the reissue model of 2018 (so not the old L100 century out of the 70ies). The Marantz in the video is model 2275 made from ‘74 to ‘76.
I purchased the JBL L100T(Black Lacquer) new in 1985 and still have them powered to a AU 7900 Sansui integrated amp. Do they compare to these new JBL L100 Classic? They video was great. Thanks
No. However the old one is great, In almost all reviews it is said that the new L100 is a totally different and better speaker on the inside. It has latest technology, is V-braced, woofer, mid and tweeter and crossover are top range today’s quality and all issues the old had are solved. (Quadrex foam grill will last now and not crumble/detoriate like the old one, etc…)
@@dennisheuvelmans I have a pair of the old Century L100's and i also have a pair of the predecessors to the L100, they are the model 4310 control monitors they are the ones that the studios used. I will never sell any of my JBL's. Yours sound sweet!
I just got a set of these speakers, my Fisher RS-914 does not pair good with them at all, however my smaller Panasonic RA-6600 sounds great with them but it’s only 13 WPC, it is just me or is this normal for some receivers to not like 4 ohm speakers.
Are you using good cables, good source quality signal? Normally these L100 pair easy with a lot of receivers and amps. Are you having these new L100 classic reissue of 2018 (4500 usd) like I have in the video or do you own the vintage original L100?
@@dennisheuvelmans i have a CD player hooked up with heavy cables and speaker wire. That sansui is a Quad receiver but running in 2 channel mode. I would never use an AV receiver, 5.1 is crap for music lol I do admire your Marantz, does it play loud? Does it sound amazing in person like it does in your video? It sure is a beautiful receiver. I have the 4000 dollar L100 Classics like you have. I have early L100s too that also rock. Thank you for your reply!
@@TheAirConditionerGuy yes the Marantz 2275 is a dream and yes it can play very loud if you want and in real it sounds much better than on this video which was recorded with an older iPhone 7 and the source on the tape was a recorded radio broadcast. Imagine better source and being in the room. 🙂
Used to have integrated and sounded awesome but changed to separates. Separates are always better and do sound better than the integrated all in 1 box.
I’m trying to decide between Jbl l100’s and the KLH model 5’s. I cant audition either speaker so I’m going to have to take a chance. I love your setup!!! There are a couple of reviewers online that say that these speakers can sound a little dull and uninteresting at times. Do you find any truth to these criticisms?
The KLH 5 is ok but is not an Icon in my eyes. It sounds like any average speaker and it has not the JBL quality. I know what you mean with dull and uninteresting but this only happens if you pair it to an amp with small power or if you link it to an AV receiver from your 5.1 system. With a good 2 channel stereo amp the L100 get enough oomph on both low and high volume and then they are truly top high end audiophile level. Absolutely amazing. But they are also based on JBL recording studio monitors and as such present the music as is. If you play lousy mp3 quality on these you will hear that it’s crap. If you listen to a good recording it sounds out of this world. I only play vinyl, reel to reel tape or Wave/FLAC digital. So no compressed files or compressed streamers like Spotify. I m still in love with these every day. Common be fair, who cares about KLH if you have the legendary renewed L100. ❤️🙂
Listening to this with headphones I’m hearing full bass support, especially considering the recording was done on a phone! Great job! What are you listening to it on, Alberto?
AMAZING SOUND! Layla is such a good song to show it with
Fantastic set up with the analog RTR, Westcoast speaker and that warm Marantz. That's how its done. Great job.

JBL and Marantz? A winning combo! Great stuff!
I have some older JBLs (circa late '80s) on a tube amp. Nostalgic bliss!
Enjoy!
