Homelessness scares the hell out of me because I'm on disability and have been at the point where I thought I was going to have to sleep in the street a few times. So I don't have a lot of money but I do have a lot of time and I crochet bed rolls out of plastic Supermarket bags and donate them to the homeless shelter for the homeless people. Also crochet beanie hats and I crochet blankets for the animal shelters for the animals that are waiting for their forever homes. I think for those people that say they don't have the money to do something like this donating your time in other ways is a way to give back and to help others also
I've done something similar twice. I donated to shelters for women and children. My kids and I were homeless and stayed in a very nice house they turned into a shelter for women and children each room had 2 sets of bunk beds and a keypad lock. But when we got there they had little goodie bags with toiletries n for the kids little toys, coloring books a couple treats. They had a garage full of clothes, blankets and other necessities they let us pick thru and grab what we needed. It was very nice and helped the kids feel comfortable.
I'm really happy I was able to help the local homeless. Such an easy way to give back.
Oh that sounds awesome Melisa, too bad every shelter/safe house isn't run like that, people would be in much better positions AND spirits if they were. I want to do something to help out like hands on helping, I've ALWAYS donated my clothes but I wanna like go in and give stuff to the people and be able to talk to them and hear their stories[if they are comfortable telling them] I just wish more people actually wanted to help as well, but like I said in another comment SOOO many people are SOO selfish and self absorbed, it's crazy and disgusting man! I sincerely Hope all is well girl!!!

Being able to go in and help hands on would be so awesome and in my experience many of those women need that, someone to talk to, confide in.and you are so right too many people are selfish and judgemental to a fault. The world would definitely be a better place with more generous people, and not even financial generosity just overall generosity. Help your neighbor! Be kind! You never know what anyone you meet may be going thru.
I stayed in a place like that once myself. The problem I had with my house was whenever we got donations the house mothers would bring them into the office to go through them. They said was to make sure that there was no Contraband or anything dangerous in there but we found out by snooping on them that they were picking out the really nice clothes for themselves and leaving the rest for the mothers.

Yes, it is a joy to give to others. I started donating everything I outgrow or never fit along with anything else. I love giving to others. And I have definitely had times in my life where I received much appreciated donations myself. Thank you for being such an inspiration.

I donate our unwanted clothes to charity also. There’s nothing wrong with them, so why not let someone else get more wear out of them.

❤Great finds on the toothbrush kits for them. I haven't done this in years! My sister and I use to do stuff like this. I would make a big pot of hot dogs & chili then bring them to the homeless we have here under the bridge during the winter..

I used to donate all my son's baby, toddler, and childlike clothes..along with toys he out grew. Only had the one so everything was still like new. I know that kids in foster care ALWAYS need like suitcases, bags etc because so many of them put their stuff in trash bags.
And the animal shelters usually need like towels and blankets etc
If u find these things for cheap too.

Well done Melissa, you got some nice stuff that anyone would be pleased to get. The smart trousers and shirts would be great for job interviews or even going into places to ask if there are any jobs. Everyone needs a helping hand now and then, and having people like you donating to help them is so good to see. We can't do much now as we live on benefits as I am disabled and my other half is my full time carer, but we still buy food to feed the wildlife in our garden, and make small money donations when we can. By the way, the long sleeved dress you tried looked lovely on you.

You are an angel, Melissa! Thank you for always being a positive influencer. I get so much joy when I watch your videos because you are so genuine. We donate to a local place called Western Neuropathy Association. They notify us well in advance when their truck is going to be in our area so it serves as a motivation to declutter. My husband was a bit dismayed that he had outgrown a lot of his shorts and pants, but it is very gratifying to be able to donate these items so that someone else can use them. They take other items besides clothing like shoes, small appliances and tools, linens and bedding.
That is so very great of you. I also donate other items to the vva for the veterans.
I miss it. But here i am. You have a big soul. Love what you are teaching all of us. At times we forget how blessed we are. There was one point in my life that my clothing came from a Thrift shop and there is nothing wrong with it. By the way the maroon dress looks fantastic on you, plus the color looks great on you.

Melissa, you have such a kind heart. It was inspiring to see the joy on your face. When we lived in Colorado Springs our church would do service and play music at the springs rescue mission. We as also did some out reaches in the park for the homeless, we would cook food, have the praise and worship team playing music, games, giveaways, and we also had a section of donated items that they could go through. It was just a great time helping out. We tried to make it as fun as we could for them. Keep up that wonderful giving spirit you have.

The way I put it into perspective. Is there always a need to be met. Whether it's for ourselves, family or community. We are God's hands and feet on 🌎 earth. Hey Melissa! You are an absolute queen! Thank you so much for helping others!!! I donate to our local homeless shelter whenever I clean my closet or find deals while thrifting. Since covid our local soup kitchen is unable to have people eat in so they have to have things to go. Once a week make and donate 50 sandwiches for them to give out. Three people per day/150 sandwiches. We have to stick together and help those who are struggling! Bless you!

My sorority group has been donating to the City Mission and Shelter for many years, winter items, blankets, underwear, hats, gloves, scarfs, and such along with food, and money. In Australia we have a charity which is called Share The Dignity. Every Christmas we fill handbags and purses with all the goodies missing from a woman’s daily life. Shampoo, hairbrush, combs, toothpaste, tooth brushes, sanitary products, lipstick, anything you would love to have if you were a homeless woman. The bags are usually left at churches or the Salvation Army by a cut off date and then distributed to ladies at homeless shelters. Whatever works
for your city. It’s been happening here for a number of years. You could do something similar for the men too.

When I'm out shopping and I find clothing on a major discount I do the exact same thing, I buy it and give to family/friends, to the church or to a charity in my town that gives it to foster homes that have kids in need. It indeed feels good just to be able to spend a few dollars to bring joy to someone.By the way you looked cute in both dresses.

Hi Melissa great video great haul and a great thing you are doing. I take some clothes to the goodwill and most of the clothes was new with tag on them and i watch the man put it in the dumpster so I get them out I when in and ask for the boss and I tell him what happened and the guy lost his job

I have been Thrifting (70-90percent off) for many years, only keeping a few things. Most (90 percent) of the items get donated to the various places in our town who need it, FCHS Animal Shelter gets pet food & toys, Emmaus House gets shelf stable foods, Salvation Army gets Clothing & Household goods. And some times if a family is in need we make an anonymous package for their door, knock & Run. We adopt families for Christmas also!

You are a great inspiration. I also donate but I crochet things to donate. One year I crocheted for a whole year and donated crocheted hats and I had 100 of them. I also donated crocheted hats for the shaken baby syndrome charity. They wanted purple hats and I made 80 of them. It feels really good to give and I still donate.

This is great. I wish more people thought like you do. I have been on both sides of the coin. I do ate whenever I can, but my family has also been on the receiving end when we were homeless for six months because my landlord sold the building and the occupancy permits didn’t transfer. So thank you for doing what you can to help. I’m sure your thoughtfulness will be greatly appreciated.
