Got the same two item but with deadman's plate as my second buy. Kinda agree with you, I still prefer him as tank unless they increase the range of his Q.
Thank you for recommending the tank build, I'm kinda tired of idiots running AP Maokai and going 0/8/xx in my games.
What do you think about Rod of Ages for Maokai? Do you think it gives enough HP to still work on tanky Maokai?
Nah I still think the item is bad
Idk if it's just me or not but does anybody feel like aftershock is kinda doodoo? Like it doesn't do much in a teamfight, esp in the early game, it proc-ed easily but the damage blocked and done is often close to zero. Imho maokai feels so much better with phase rush, just like nunu.
I prefer Glacial Augment for support and even jungle Maokai, Grasp on top Maokai, but yeah Phase Rush can work pretty well too, especially in the jungle.
I feel like there's an argument to be made for aftershock in the jungle, since your own survival in a teamfight is important if there are objectives up, whereas, glacial makes more sense for a support, since the slow and damage reduction help to protect your carry.
That being said, having both runes rn does feel kinda redundant, and in general I feel like glacial is the stronger rune.

Oh yeah that's a good point: it's useless if you're not already on the front lines when you proc it
easy guys , if ur maokai and u have to engage/ be the only tank in team - aftershock
if ur just supposed to be a meatshield and peel for ur carries - glacial
So i played a few games with AP, and boy he hits so fucking hard but you have to play super smart or youre dead in seconds. Worth it if you already have a dedicated tank, otherwise better to go tank. Even more so if youre going jungle.
Finally i cry every time someone in my team pick him and go full ap same thing with malphite you basically go in and die however if you go tank you basically become immortal and do even more damage then pure ap
burst ap maokai is miles better just like how u build burst ap nautilus in the jungle
never tried burst AP maokai with electrocute? you know, the same way chinese builds burst ap nautilus?
Don’t think going ap on him is worth it
If u have a team that will engage with u he's pretty dang good!

Heartsteel, Dawn Shoud, Thornmail/Force of Nature, Twinguard.
Make sure you take Ingenious Hunter. Almost unkillable late game.

Do not max e second it’s ass in wild rift and you barely even get any benefits out of it you can play the whole game without even putting a point into e
He is bad in wildrift, compared to pc. Tried him full tank support, dealt 0 damage.even blitzcrank is more useful than him

Wtf, build better tank items if you want damage: Searing Crown, Sunfire, Iceborn Gauntlet, Dawnshroud, Thornmail all give him damage, build some of those; also his damage abilities have high base values.
Then you're building him wrong lol I have dealt over 60k damage so easily Sunfire aegis+ tank items depend on enemy team.
Wild. I play him full tank in every role most of the time and I do +50k damage every game with +100s of CC.
