Max Verstappen competing in iRacing isn't doing iRacing a favour actually. He toned down the graphics setting to maximise frame rate for performance, which is totally understandable. Performance > looks. However, Max being Max is going to pull in huge amount of audience to watch his stream, and those who doesn't know sim racing much is going to see iRacing in such a graphically toned down state, casual fans are going to ask "why is an F1 champion playing such an ugly game. GT7/Forza/NFS looks way better" Casuals don't care about laser scanned tracks, they most likely care about how games look. Of course this isn't a problem for those who sim race, and of course those who race in iRacing.
