  • I was always afraid to pull it apart, but it's really not all that bad - there are several write ups for this clutch on MA, but I have yet to see a video about it. Sachs makes a really nice motor.

    Ahh what a cute clutch :-)
    Never seen one like that before, good old atf, puch juice lol :-)
    Your mate did a smashing job of repair and explained every part, nice to see someone still takes interest in repairing things.
    Now time for swarfega for the hands and a cup of coffee to slurp lol :-)
    I had a 125cc bike that had a slipping clutch, dissasembly and clean/re-assemble fixed the problem, im sure it just wanted to be fondled to make it happy again ha ha :-)
    Nice vid Travis :-)

    This was EXTREMELY helpful.
    Only issue I see is the piston stop. I have read/heard this can seriously damage the piston.

      Take a socket put it to the flywheel and then go to the clutch nut and y tighten it while holding the flywheel in place this will stop the pistion

    Thank you guys so much. I bought a Sachs a while back and I've been sitting on it for a while working on my Maxi until recently and I got it running but the clutch seems to have died on me I have tons of spare parts that were never used but without the knowledge of what I'm doing I've been a bit wary of going in. I'll be getting back on it tonight!

      Sachs is a real underdog, but they are fun in their own special way!

    • @SwiftCreationStudio
      @SwiftCreationStudio 3 года назад

      @@TravisTutorial Yeah I've been having some fun with it, the issue I had was I lost the spring that holds the arm level with the starter clutch. The only real issue I've been having is the cost and availability of some parts which is mostly not a problem because I have spares.
      I couldn't find decent looking (or any) side covers and most of the groups would say you don't need them which wasn't helpful. I ended up just using my old ones for a reference and modelling my own to 3d print when my schedule clears up. I put up a short video showing some of the mess I've done/am doing pretty short if you're interested.

    hell yea! this is rad.
    i will say tho, check clutch preload is important. its easiest to measure with the stack together and outside the clutch and the springs not in. so you can measure the height and measure shim size needed.
    ALSO YES USE LOCTITE! there's nothing holding your clutch to the crank besides that nut! and so on deceleration (especially doing sweet skids with the coasterbrake and more still with higher performance kitted bikes etc.) they DO spin off. I have seen it. alot.

    Thanks for this video! I was having issues with my 504 clutch (which is the same) and need to replace the cable/block off the leaky decomp valve. Only worked on Tomos clutches before so when I popped the cover I had no idea what I was looking at, but this video helped a lot!

    Hey Travis, I have an issue, My Eagle III 505d moped starts, run and idles fine, but when I get on it and hit the throttle it dies. I have replace the clutch pads and rebuilt the clutch, sent to shop and no one an fix it. I am starting to think it's more of an electrical issue. As the headlights don't work. Could the kickstand or brakes cause issues with the clutch not engaging properly

    I have a g3 with 505 D - I also bought a minarelli v1 engine. Now I'm starting to think its best to keep the 505 D over the minarelli. I se you guys are rocking both. How hard was it to mount the V1? is it really one additional bolt?

    • @TravisTutorial
      @TravisTutorial  9 лет назад

      It all depends what you'd like out of the motor. A 505D motor is 2.7 horsepower stock which is pretty neat. Basically, if you're interested in kitting and want an easy selection of aftermarket parts a V1 will satisfy, but if you're fixing a stock bike or maybe just planning on putting a pipe that Sachs motor will be plenty reliable.
      If you end up doing the swap there are the normal considerations - changing the gearing, fabbing mounts, making sure the chain lines up, carb/intake clears frame, etc. The V1 bike shown was a factory bike, since General peds came with both motors I can't imagine they're that different.

After using it for like 10 minutes the motor startes to have less power and a acceleration, and when I come to a stop its like the motor is having a hard time to stay on. I have played with the carb and that was not the problem. Can u plz help me?!

    What carburetor is that? I got an old Columbia 1976 that has the same or similar Sachs on it that. Someone before me, put a Bing carburetor on. It runs but, way too lean! I can't use full throttle and I'm worried about damaging the engine.

    • @TravisTutorial
      @TravisTutorial  10 лет назад +1

      It is a square bing, you can read a little about it here:
      www.mopedarmy.com/wiki/Bing#Bing_.28Sachs.29_Carburetor_Diagram
      To be honest, I'm not the biggest fan of it, but on a stock bike it's a fine carb. I assume you're referring to a round style bing someone put on there, which is actually very tuneable. If the bike has been modded (air filter removed, or a home made exhaust pipe put on...) then you'll need to swap out the main jet in that round bing for a larger one so it gets more fuel and isn't lean, assuming that is actually your problem.

    • @lewisveasey1674
      @lewisveasey1674 10 лет назад

      TravisTutorial Yeah, it's a lean bog because, the spark plug is very chalky(even when I set the needle to the richest setting). I figured as much that the jet might be too small. Do you know any good places to get jet kits?
      Oh, and thanks!

    Question Travis, I have a Grycner Floozie (AKA General 5-star ST) it comes with this super crappy conventional battery that needs acid to work (6v 4.2 AH), Do you know any good replacement batteries? Preferably a maintenance free.

    • @TravisTutorial
      @TravisTutorial  8 лет назад

      I actually just bought a bunch of parts off of a Grycner Palm Springs (pretty much the same thing)!
      I remember at one point trying to look for a conventional "car" type battery and wasn't successful. You can however, find compatible batteries that take distilled water and not battery acid, so that's nice.

    • @Imsohesh
      @Imsohesh 8 лет назад

      TravisTutorial I know the exact model, It would be amazing if you did a video on it ;).
      Also, I couldn't help to notice your filter, I know treats has the OG filter that fits perfect, but do you know any others that might fit? Also, do you know the size? Thanks a bunch

    • @TravisTutorial
      @TravisTutorial  8 лет назад

      Kevin Salas I wish I could, I was buying front end parts for my Clinton 50-a (same body style). As for the air filter, honestly that Treats filter is probably the best bet. I ended up rigging some window insulation that worked well, but for a direct fit that's the ticket, the sizing is a little goofy.

    what size is the puller for the mag need to take off the flywheel

    • @TravisTutorial
      @TravisTutorial  9 лет назад

      Unfortunately answer is not quite straight forward, Sachs 504 and 505 use a different size flywheel:
      www.myronsmopeds.com/category/ignition/bosch/
      Biggest difference, Sachs 504 pedals are outside, 505 pedals are inside. Treats sells a flywheel puller that works on a lot of Sachs, but not all as the description says so be careful. www.treatland.tv/puch-bosch-flywheel-puller-p/puch-bosch-flywheel-puller.htm

  • @sickmellon

    honestly kinda sounds like your clutch is slipping, overheating and expanding.
    if you went through this very tutorial on your bike it'll prevent your clutches from slipping and overheating which causes them to then stick and kill the bike especially when coming to a stop.
