I lived in Tembisa last year(my first year), going to the University of Johannesburg every morning. I must say you are previlaged man, because as for I, I woke up from a shark each morning at around 4:30 to walk 30 minutes to Orkmoor train station to catch a Metrorail train at around 5:30. I went with my dad as he went to work. It was a hell, since the train could sometimes even take three hours on the road😣, making me to be late for my morning class(8:00) by few minutes. I am at APk too, and, could sometimes arrive at Doornfontein train station around 8:30, to rush to a Megabus(then, but now StaBus). It was hectic as an everyday activity, and having to get my first meal from the feeding scheme when I get to campus, no matter how much late I might be for class, because I knew without it, I will eat again at the feeding scheme in the midday, having the latest class at 18:45, and taking another 3hour tiring trip to Tembisa. I am even writing a book to counsel me from the trauma. Should I have not dropped out last year, no pressure can make me drop out. I'll get the degree ✊🏿#byforce Thanks for sharing your life experience...
That's very touching.i am glad that you are still persevering through all this and one day you will be rewarded. Three years is not a long time for ones investment into your future.
I went through the very same thing. Same campus, same hood. Oakmoor in the mornings left me with some scars as well. I got my degree. Walking down that stage with my degree on hand was the best thing to ever. Keep pushing. You can do it!
Wow! I was amongst the first group of blacks to study there in the nineties, our 1st year we used to translate study materials from Afrikaans to English ourselves, then they introduced English classes in the evenings.I studied Accounting and I was amongst their first batch of blacks ( we were four)to qualify as Chartered Accountants.Time flies and good luck!

Hey - we probably never met - but that was my second year there - and for the first time in my life I had the opportunity to make black friends - still one of the best experiences of my life! I did get to know one guy quite well - but almost 30 years on, I don't remember his name...🤔I do remember he was Zulu, dating a Xhosa girl - and his mom was a doctor - went to visit his house and met his mom one night - not sure she knew what to make of it! But amazing. Did you attend any of the 'Voelvry' concerts?

Or am I wrong? Please feel free to answer me, 'cause I am on my way to come and study in SA, especially at UJ
Hi there I’ll advice you to join Uj and stay at campus it’s way safer , but again I only stay off campus because of some other personal reasons including I do work from home and also stay with a family and am a more family person so I prefer that environment than the student environment
