- Happy Juneteenth and welcome back to Whistle Wednesdays. Today, I'll be checking out the Acme Taxi Whistle (model 144). This two-toned whistle has a very iconic sound that doormen have used to summon taxis for decades. It has quite a nice tone.

Acme is the preferred taxi whistle by all supergenius coyotes. It won't help you catch roadrunners though.
Ha ha. I always think of loony toons when I think of Acme as well. Thanks for tuning in.
I hadn't thought about taxi whistles in year. Thanks for reminding me about them
They have a very unique tone. I really like it. Thanks for checking it out.
Bravo pour ce T-shirt 😊
Great content, always interesting. Back in Montréal soon? lots of music happening in summer.
I'd love to go back to Montreal but next time I'm going in August instead of March. 🤣 Thanks for tuning in.
Thanks for the history lesson, seems I'm always learning something from you videos 👍
Thanks for tuning in. This time and always.
far freaking out
I just got a "La Gloria Cubana Trunk Show Twenty Twelve" Liga YG 23 box that I am hoping to make a cigar box cello out of.
I am planning to put a through neck and end blocks.
Sounds like a fun project. Thanks for tuning in to Whistle Wednesdays.

Trying to remember where I've heard that whistle before is going to bug me all day. Also, a whistle with a unique tone and a lot of history you might be interested in looking into is the Cap'n Crunch Bo’sun Whistle. It came as a prize in boxes of Cap'n Crunch but the specific tone it emits also happened to be the tone of old phone switching systems so it led to the creation of phone hacking and later succeeded by computer hacking.
I've heard that story about the Cap'n Crunch whistle. I'm not sure why I didn't think of it before now but thanks for the suggestion.
I had never heard of a taxi whistle but the sound was very familiar. If I'd just heard it I would have said that it's a police whistle. Some time in the past, bobbies had a whistle and I don't know whether it was to signal "stop" to the offender, or to summon backup from nearby bobbies (hey, policemen patrolling on foot, remember that??) but that sound makes me think that a crime is in progress. I had a police whistle as a kid it was a completely different shape to your taxi whistle, cylilndrical with a hole on either side for the two different pitches.
Thanks for checking it out. Ironically the Bobby whistle is going to be the next episode of Whistle Wednesdays. Shhh. Don't tell anyone. 🤣 That's the Acme Model 15 and it's really iconic. The 143 (higher) and 144 (lower) whistles are pretty unique. I don't think the camera fully captured the tone but it's really quite lovely. It sounds harmonious and musical.
@@musicalmiscellany Look forward to it. It'll certainly bring back some memories and will be nice to know a bit more about those.
