    So the "professional" plumber that installed my water heater just went on a tirade and called me every name in the book just for asking if this is something covered under warranty. We had a soft water system installed 7 months ago and the guy said that this was something to look out for, a leaking T&P. Well, a few days ago it must have popped open because I noticed the wall of my bathroom was wet. I looked for the source of water and it was from the long drain downtube. I called the number on the sticker of my water heater and they would love to come out for $99 to tell me what this video just showed me. I HAVE WATCHED A FEW OF YOUR VIDEOS. I DECIDED TO SAVE YOUR INFO SO I CAN WATCH MORE. YOU DISPELLED A FEW MYTHS AND WE ALL APPRECIATE THAT. I HATE COMMENTING BUT IN THIS CASE I HAD NO CHOICE. YOUR INFO IS VALUABLE AND OF COURSE VERY HELPFUL.
    I CAUGHT YOUR VIDEO ON REPLACING THE BALL VALVE AFTER HAVING TROUBLE DRAINING MY TANK. SURE ENOUGH AFTER INSTALLING THE BALL VALVE & DRAINING THE TANK A FEW TIMES I TESTED THE TEMPERATURE PRESSURE VALVE...IT LEAKED. I NEVER WOULD HAVE CHECKED THIS (WITH OUT SEEING YOUR VIDEOS) BUT BY DOING SO I NOTICED THERE IS A STICKER NEXT TO THE VALVE THAT STATES TO DO JUST WHAT YOU SAID, TEST AT LEAST ANNUALLY. I JIGGLED & FORCED IT CLOSED (SEVERAL TIMES) TO BUY ME TIME TILL THE NEXT MORNING. WENT AND GOT ONE AND AM INSTALLING TODAY. I ALWAYS USE IT TO DRAIN THE TANK BUT WHEN IT WAS FULL OF H20 AND I ACTUALLY TESTED IT AFTER REFILLING THE TANK, THAT IS WHEN IT FAILED. JUST OPENING IT DOES NOT TEST IT.
    I LEARNED QUITE A BIT OF INFO BY READING THE COMMENTS WITH YOUR RESPONSES AS WELL.
    THANK YOU FOR YOUR EFFORTS I APPRECIATE YOUR INFORMATION THAT BOLSTERS OUR EXISTING KNOWLEDGE AND INFORMS US SO WE CAN DO THE JOB CORRECTLY AND NOT ONLY FIX PROBLEMS BUT SEEK TO IDENTIFY PENDING PROBLEMS. FOR EXAMPLE THE T&P VALVE IN MY CASE WAS SPEWING H20. ALSO THE TAPE AND PLUMBERS DOPE IN CONJUNCTION WAS NEWS TO ME ALBEIT THE CORRECT WAY. ASK MOST PEOPLE AND THE WILL NOT KNOW YOU NEED TO WRAP THE TAPE AGAINST THE THREADS. THE LIST GOES ON.

    • @AmplifyDIY
      @AmplifyDIY  2 года назад +2

      @@Dnyce07 Apologies for the confusion: If you have a steady stream of water coming out of the drain pipe attached to your T&P valve, you need a new T&P valve. The heater itself is likely just fine. It sounds like your T&P valve is no longer seating correctly, and is therefore not closing all the way, so water is leaking out of the tank through the valve. Replace the valve only, and see if that solves the issue. Good luck!

    Thanks a million guy! the T & P valve that came with Bradford White Water heater was only 2 years old on our 2018 Manufactured Home and was trickling water after I flushed it this afternoon. A local plumber gave us a quote of $150 plus parts but my boy and I spent $30 at home depot for the parts. Really enjoyed learning how to do this myself and gonna swap the drain valve next.

    I agree with you regarding periodically testing any TPR valves. I do so for the boiler and water heater at our residence twice a year when I test my smoke and CO detectors. I also strongly recommend clients do the same. I have replaced a TPR valve on a boiler which was leaking, but have not yet had the need to do so on a water heater.

    9:40 I'm glad for the video's sake that you ran into this issue. If there is an issue I can run into while trying to get something done, IT WILL HAPPEN! So I would have been stuck here looking for another solution, possibly in the middle of the project. Or probably would have called a plumber to save me.

    Great video. 67 YO lady here that just bought an old double wide that needs lots of work. The WH has NO PV so I will be installing either a new WH or maybe a tankless. Love your teaching method, plus you have a great voice. I think you must be either a radio host or a preacher, or both. I will be watching your videos. You give me confidence that i can DIM...(Do It Myself). Thanks so much!!!

    Great video, when I was a teenager my family's home was saved by the bell oops I mean T&P valve lol. While we were away hauling a load of cattle to the slaughterhouse, the 40 gallon electric water heater in our basement got extremely hot. We came home that night and I nearly scalded myself when I went to wash my hands. Dad went to investigate the problem and the valve has gushing water that was nearly steam and the basement felt like a sauna. We went to home depot to get two new thermostats, installed them, but now it kept overheating and popping the reset button. Turned out to be a bad element that shorted to the sheathing, and kept heating with 120 volts to the grounded tank after the thermostat shut off, by that time all the stores were closed and it was almost 11pm. So everyone had the privilege of taking a cold shower before catching some 😴

    Thanks for the great video. I had a drip from my drain line and followed the steps outlined in your video and successfully changed out my TP valve. My cpvc drain line was also glued, but as my water heater is in the attic and has a long drain line which directs the flow outside of the house. I ended up cutting the cpvc and installing a cpvc union below the new valve to make it easier the next time whenever either the TP valve or water heater is replaced. Other than that, I followed your steps exactly and will hopefully get a few more years out of my water heater.
