The Garmin Xero C1 Pro is my 4th chronograph, after the Shooting Chrony, ProChrono, and the Caldwell. It is so nice to not have to go in front of the firing line with other shooters waiting to have one align the unit with the shooting position and the target. Also, very nice to not have to repeat the mantra, "Don't shoot the chronograph!" over and over. I hit a small burble with transferring the data to a spreadsheet as the numbers came over as text. I had to massage them a bit to be able to run math functions. But ... all things considered, I am really happy with the performance.
A guy I shoot with had a Garmin at the range and let met try it out! I knew I had to have one right away! These are selling like Hot Cakes and difficult to find in stock. Can’t wait to take it to the range! Found mine at Carolina Outfitters…great service! Thanks for the excellent review!!

Hi Jason. The sad part here is that Joshua Chapman, the owner of CFT was killed in a head on collision just the other day when two teenagers came across the centerline (initial reports). From what Rich told me, Joshua was a good guy, who, when the machining business he owned started to slow down, decided to go into the firearms business and was building a name for himself and his company. He leaves behind 2 children and a wife. A sad ending for this man and his family.
I held off as long as I could after hearing of it 1 month ago due to cost. But it's such a game changer for load development and continuous monitoring I had to pick one up.
I had a Oehler 35 for about 30 years. While the Oehler was THE chronograph. I bought the Garmin Xero. I use a chronograph to keep my air rifle where it needs to be. I can even chronograph my rifles at night.
They do have the fx outdoors crono for 999.99 that does work with firearms and gives you bc at different distances and is about half the size of the lab but thats just a little side note if anyone cares too know this Garmin on the other hand is a hell of a package and I’m tempted for sure!
Hi Reckless! Thanks for the info. I'm sure all these manufacturers are going back to the drawing boards now the the "disrupter" has released. Thanks for watching my friend!
Thanks for the test using both the Magneto and Garmin. Agree that the Magneto is also great, but this takes it to another level. Garmin + Magneto + Chrony Pro will be my tests tomorrow, just for fun. Question- Can you add shots to a "session" after moving to another session which would allow round robin shooting of multiple loads at different targets? I have not found a way to do this yet and nobody mentions it in their YT vids. Y'all DO do load development and are familiar with round robin shooting, right?
Good review guys. I tried mine today for the first time. Nice unit. Have you guys figured out how to set the date? Mine is set on Sept 26...LOL...not that the date is critical but usually these types of gadgets are settable for date and time.

Would like more on trueing data. I understand how and have trued at one environmental setting, but how do you adjust for different environmental conditions. Kestrel allows a speed vs temp scale. Do you have to true those speeds at each temp as well?
Hi Fish! Great question and I'm working on that video right now coincidently...Hoping to have it out before Christmas. MY basic answer is it depends on whether you're using a temp stable powder or not. I use H4350 for my 6.5 Creedmoor and H4895 for my 6mm BRA, so using very temp stable powders like those, I don't need to adjust much if any for temp differences. I did a video on changing powders where I provide some numerical analysis against different velocities, look that one up. Thanks for watching my friend!
Mine is not very consistent. just got it and used it once at an indoor range. I was angling it a bit toward my muzzle. I think I am not supposed to do that.
Hi RC! Yes, that might be your issue. Per the manual, you want the Garmin to pick up the bullet path at least 20 yds from the muzzle. Try angling more parallel to the barrel path and you should see better results. Thanks for watching my friend!
Just curious, I’ve got the new Garmin and I’m curious if anyone has a very easy simple to use app to where I can use the information from the Garmin and chart the velocities without actually manually entering in each velocity numbers, I seen a couple apps but couldn’t figure them out…
Hi ShootingCenter! You can go to developer.garmin.com/fit/fitcsvtool/windows/ and read about the conversion from the .fit file to .csv, then you can bring into Excel and chart the data. Try just changing the file extension first from .fit to .csv and see if that works...I think that's what I did when I was fooling around with the .fit files generated by the xero. Hope this at least gives you a start. Thanks for watching my friend!

The evolution of technology is advancing at such a rate I have to wonder how many shooters on limited budgets are hesitant to ever buy new gear like this because using Lab Radar as an example, there's always a new better cheaper gadget around the corner. I think the Garmin will be a huge hit in the PRS community. As more and more companies listen to customer demands new products will be competing hard to meet them in order to survive the market place. This product is a going to be a hot seller for sure in 2024 as word gets out more.
Hi Rimfire! Yeah, I really do think this has changed the chronograph game. HI Rayman! My understanding and what research I've done says the xero c1 does not support downrange speed like the lab radar and others do. Thanks for watching my friend!
Let's be honest on the price of a labradar, midway USA was selling them for 624.99 but now they are 499.99 none of those prices are close to 1000.00. I own all three of these chronographs and they each have there place. I agree with you on the significant improvements with the Garmin, I only have around 100 shots with it so far so good. That being said I have around 2000 with the labradar with no complaints other than its size.

It's the compactness, ease of use and different mounting options to me that set the Garmin apart. To each his own I say! Thanks for watching my friend!
The only thing stopping me from buying one is the plastic casing around the guts. For $699 Garmin could have ponied up and gone with a nice strong metal case around the guts. I've used mine steadily (probably at least 100 times now) and have knocked it off a shooting bench onto a concrete floor about 5 times with no issues. I was thinking of buying a protective cover that some sell, but, I don't treat it too badly (unless I drop it off a bench!), so haven't. Hi SEOKLADUCKIN! I predict a new Lab Radar by middle of next year that will compete with the Garmin, but by that time, who will really want it? Garmin is saturating the market now, so you may darn well be right. Thanks for watching my friend!
Hi Aldo! Let's see, you could use the LR as a base on a baseball diamond, put it on a shelf as a reminder of what complacency looks like, or sell it and get what you can for it. As I said in the video, I would have loved to be in the leadership meeting at LR when this thing came out and their sales dwindled in one week. I really don't wish the LR team any harm, it's just that I'm betting they were very proud of their market ownership and just didn't listen to anyone. Thanks for watching my friend!
It's to be expected, they have done nothing to upgrade or improve their product and as you say did not listen to the customers, Carmen listened, answered, and unfortunately has blown them out of the water, as you said we wish no harm on their company but we are the consumer it is our money ... interesting to see what lab radar might do to respond, might be too little too late
@@Aldocello1 Yeah, the challenge for Lab Radar is that once guys like me buy something, we generally stick with it until a real game changer comes along. Garmin already changed the game, so the best LR can do in my opinion is come out with a similar device for say 1/2 to 2/3 of the cost to snag the newer shooters. If you have a Kestrel, and "walk out" to the distances you're shooting, I would argue that you don't need a chronograph because you are more than likely going to tweak that chrono data anyway...
Hi Michael! You just defined one of the videos I'm working on! I totally agree that if you didn't have access to a chrono, you can still true your DOPE and be fine. I think one good benefit from having a chrono is when you've changed lots in powder for example and you want to validate velocity, but honestly you could still not use chrono even for that. Thanks for watching my friend!
Most videos are shown with rifles. I, as well as others shoot pistols most of the time. Do I really need a chrono? I do reload and experiment so yes I do. I bought the Garmin primarily because it is so simple and easy to set up and use.😂
Hi Snakeman! Yep, I heard they had been working on it for a while, but now as you say, late to the game. I spoke with some of my buddies who had friends testing the Garmin...They could only test when no one else was around and some even camouflaged the Garmin as a power pack and used a LabRadar as a prop so others would think the shooter was just using a LabRadar. Hi Dale! Yes, 6mm BRA. I run very slow at ~2,755 or so. I've found that the SMK 107's I use either like slow or fast, but not much in between. Now, that is THIS barrel of course, but I run all my rifles slower than normal to extend barrel life more than anything. I just switched back to H4895 and man, that rifle puts close to single holes in paper at 100 yds and I was consistently hitting 850+ yd targets in the match last weekend. Glad I left Varget TBH.
@@The4GunGuy i recently switched to 6BRA. Using 107s also, but I only have Varget for now. My forming load was running about 2785 and sub 1/2 MOA. I am trying to decide if I need to even worry about load development or just run it as is.
@@daleevans5122 If you're getting 1/2 MOA and can impact targets at distance, I wouldn't waste the material. I just validated because I went back to 4895 from Varget and wanted to make sure that load was good. 2785 is a great speed for the smk 107.
HI Dale! Yep, the non-Garmin market has crashed. As I said in the video and you found first hand, MagneetoSpeed will have to drop their price a bit to keep the lower end market dominance here and looks like they have. I love my MS, but can't wait to get my Garmin. Thanks for watching my friend!
Hi Liam! In the instruction manual it states "Verify the target is at least 20 meters or 20 yards from the chronograph.", so it looks like it will track within 100 yds or am I not understanding your question/statement?
I think he’s stating that it doesn’t track velocities incrementally down range like LR. You could possibly place it down range and shoot into radar from there for down range velocity. That would obviously be limited to a range where that’s possible. Possibly the only cons to the Garmin would be no down range velocities and a non replaceable battery? Pretty much non issues for most of us in my mind tho.
@@danielnellessen2234 ahhh, yes that makes sense and I agree that it doesn't have that capability. For my needs, I only care about the MV in order to true my DOPE out to say 1,000 yds for PRS. I know the LR can help you with that, but I just use the 'old school' method.

I picked up a Magnetospeed v3 for $185 thanks to this new Garmin!
HI Dale! Yep, the non-Garmin market has crashed. As I said in the video and you found first hand, MagneetoSpeed will have to drop their price a bit to keep the lower end market dominance here and looks like they have. I love my MS, but can't wait to get my Garmin. Thanks for watching my friend!
Still waiting on someone to test its accuracy by using the data and a ballistics calculator to get first round hits at vaiable distances.
To bad it does not track out to 100 yards minimum.
Then Labradar came out with something of similar size.
Hi Chris! Yeah, haven't seen much of that one and hope it was already in the works and not just thrown together as a response to the Xero...We'll see. Thanks for watching my friend!
@@The4GunGuy there isn't a lot out there on it yet, but from what I have seen, it's no better or worse than the Garmin. Just different.
RIP Joshua Chapman.
At first I was like wtf is this guy talking about. I’ve been out of town on business all week and haven’t been on social media for almost a week. I just went to Josh’s page and saw all the posts. I’m completely heart broken, I can’t believe it!
@@rwhipple73same here. I hung out with him at a match and we hit it off. RIP.
Rich and I just chatted and it is such a shame. Joshua sounded like a really good person and was trying to help the shooting community and get his name out there. RIP Joshua.
I really enjoyed doing this video with you @the4gunguy let’s do more soon.
