    Wow! I didn’t know he had passed. I saw him, Marcus Miller and Bob James a few years back. They put on an unmatched performance. RIP Mr Sanborn and thank you for timeless music.

    God Bless David Sanborn. Never has there been a more important horn player since Trane or Bird. Heaven just got the last best horn player. Playing run for Cover because it’s the first song of David Sanborn that I heard live on the streets of NYC in the village by local street musicians in 1988.

    When I bought this LP in 1986 as a teenager, I remember my first listening to this fabulous piece and my amazement at the perfection of the Sanborn/Miller duo... I bought the CD later and it remains one of their best composition to date... Have a good trip & rest in peace, David!!!

    Back in '85, we used to play this in high school jazz lab. That bass line just knocks me out; I loved locking in (I'm a drummer) and just letting the bass player go to town. Man, we had some good music back then.

    Marcus and Mr Sandborn both incredible but I have to say how much I miss Hiram Bullock. He was a monster. I'll never forget his visit to San Sebastian Jazz Festival. He was awesome. Magic.

    Marcus Miller set bar into stratosphere when comes to jazz funk!!
    The swag and bravado that Marcus Miller displays when he starts "slapping" that Fender Bass is the epitome of confidence.
    Hiram Bullock is funk rock 🎸 king of the strings!
    The Funk stops and ends here! People!
    Did anyone else hear that superb low note that David Sanborn played at about 4:57-5:00?

    Can you even imagine the grip of a handshake from Marcus Miller? The dude is probably able to crack walnuts with his bare hands 😂 Best of the best here. I, 37 years old now, randomly discovered this video and song some I think 7 years ago now, and it remains one of my all time favorites period.

    This is the Steely Dan of Jazz Funk...absolute technical mastery. Nothing quite like this piece in this genre. You can do so much with this song...so many great versions out there. The buildup and drop at 1:55 is epic.

    when i heard the news this morning of my hero's death i played a loud Sanborn set at 6:00 and my wife understood. my son is a great bassist largely on this marcus groove. Dave was one of music's original giants. i remember coming up on alto in the early 80s and EVERYBODY on alto wanted to sound like Dave, even to the point of doing his unique head tilt, all in vain. I and everybody else had to accept that there's only one Dave Sanborn. gutted but grateful

    Master Marcus almost stole the show, but there was the band .. and … David of course! Such a gaggle of Pro's that really understand and FEEL the music they do! I am always entranced emotionally when I am in the company of such as these through their musical expressions of Love! Great Post!!!

    My 2 favorite saxophonists are gone. First Bob Berg, already 21 years ago, and now David Sanborn on May 12, 2024. What remains are their magnificent works. And especially this piece by Marcus Miller for the “Voyeur” album, which remains a must. RIP David

    According to me, this is so important. Especially in these days. For so many reasons, and the way he composed it, and played it. For instance, the ghost-triplets in the main theme. This is pure art. (Now, its mainly focused on speed and technique.)

    He was the reason I picked up a horn, I saw him in Manchester in the mid/late 90s outstanding set, and I was literally 6ft in front of him the whole gig! I shook his hand at the end, his hand was really pliable, almost like it had no bones! I arrived early and drove to the back of the building looking for parking and came across Marcus Miller smoking, what looked like a joint! Precious memories of one of my Heros, I'm 63 and seeing people I considered gods finally passing the mortal coil is weird. I'm not far behind I guess!
