Hi, dear math sorcerer how are you? I'm Raian and I'm 15 years old. I'm a rising 11th-grade student who loves mathematics and wants to get ahead in mathematics. I have been watching your video for a long time and I have learned a lot of things about math from your videos. Also, I bought a lot of math books by watching your math book recommendation videos. I applied for Calculus 1 course for the fall semester in college. But they didn't accept me for their college course program for high school students. I have become really sad about this. Also, I talked with the math assistant principal of my high school about taking precalculus in 11th grade without taking geometry. I took Algebra 1 in 9th grade and Algebra 2 in 10th grade, I wasn't able to take geometry in 10th grade because my previous school didn't offer geometry. My new high school math assistant principal said I could take precalculus in 11th grade without taking geometry since I already took Algebra 2. But the problem is my counselor isn't that good. My counselor might put me in geometry in 11th grade by saying I didn't take geometry. My counselor probably has the power to put me in geometry. But I learned geometry last summer by self-studying from schaum's outline of geometry. I think this horrible thing might happen to me. For this reason, I'm stressed. My goal is to get ahead in mathematics and this thing can prevent me from it. I learned a lot of math by self-studying using books. I did Chapters 1,2,3,4,6,7 of Algebra and Trigonometry by Michael Sullivan 6th edition. I learned about this book from your video. Your videos always motivated me to learn math. My goal is to get ahead in mathematics to graduate college early with an electrical engineering and computer science degree. Do you have some advice for me? I'm really worried about my horrible situation. Hope to get help from you soon.

To be honest, I find self study much more beneficial than being taught by teachers. Getting books from AoPS are great for really getting to know a subject. Been working on intermediate algebra for a bit and pretty much nobody in my school can really compare to me (not trying to sound cocky)

self study mathematics If you truly want to study higher mathematics I would encourage you to self study mathematics on your own and you should not be dependent on school if you want to go in the field of mathematics. I was also like you I watched his videos I was not that interested in math taught in school as it was boring but I wanted to try pure maths when i was 12 during covid I taught myself algebra and studied calculus and after that I read principles of mathematical analysis by walter rudin its extremely difficult to understand buts thats the beauty of it pure maths will give you a different way to look at mathematics and the world currently I am 14 and self learning differential equations. you do not lack the prior knowledge required for calculus Just google the books recommended by the math sorcerer and you are good to go!

You dont need to take geometry.... if you already know algebra and trig then you are plenty fine for calculus too. Calculus 1 is a very intro college course so, from my perspective as a scientist, I don't see why you aren't allowed to even try! Maybe try talking to your math teacher. Besides this, if it doesn't work out, don't worry. There is plenty of time in college to finish everything.

Dude, chill out. The worst case scenario here is you take a year doing domething you've already learned. It's not gonna be a major setback in the grand scheme of things. As long as you take precalc your senior year, you'll be perfectly fine to do math in college.

I am the one who won the auction for this book! I will do my best to replace the pages for this classic (even it just means having a folded printed copy of the missing pages stuck in the book) and treat this book well. I look forward to actually learning from this book along with the Kreyszig. I've had graduate level real analysis but I know its going to be a challenge!

The first fifteen pages missing? No table of contents? The index in the back is a pseudo-inverse function from which the table of contents can be (partially) constructed. But if the book is anything like the second edition, all you are missing are some notes on separation properties and linear mappings of topological vector spaces.

Hey TMS, I am a freshman in college on the pre-med track, but I feel as if the only classes I have enjoyed are calc 1 and 2. Yes, I do have an interest in the sciences, but in reality, I chose pre-med because I was worried about the money aspect of life and not the fulfillment aspect, which is why I began to look deeper into math and the deeper I go, the more I fall in love with it. I'm lost and don't know what to do anymore and if possible, I would like to hear your feedback because I hit a dead end.

      - You likely know from this channel that math in early university is VERY different from math later on in university. The change comes with proof-style classes. You may want to see if your school has any introduction to proofs classes to see if you really like that type of math, because once a math major is done with calculus, differential equations, and potentially linear algebra and discrete math (which sometimes involve some proof writing), the feeling of math classes changes dramatically; Calculus 2 is still too early to get a good sense.
      - You likely know that pre-med involves one or two semesters of physics and four or more semesters of chemistry. If you have not taken these yet, these partially align with most math major programs, so you likely have time to figure things out.
      - Can you take some math electives to be a math major or minor? Many students studying for medicine have a major that isn't pre-med, as long as they fulfill the other requirements.
      - You could also talk to your professors about your interests, because there are fields that are adjacent to medicine that require math, such as bioinformatics, neuroscience, chemistry, and even some fields that benefit from an MD--PhD. MD--PhDs are often FREE programs and giving you a living stipend, and branch into other fields. [1]
      - Ultimately, your best friends will be research and self-study.
      - If you haven't taken organic chemistry yet, IMMEDIATELY buy the cheap and small chemistry book mentioned below: [2]. Begin doing one or two pages per day. Yes, you can begin learning from it today with little to no chemistry background. This book distills organic chemistry to fundamental principles, and will change your entire pre-med experience, freeing up a lot of time that you can use toward other interests, such as math.
      Good luck.

I've been writing in all the math books I've been working through. I treat them like a puzzle book and write the answers next to the problems just like I would a puzzle book. Feel kind of bad doing that. But I paid for the math books so I can do what I want with them. At least I'm not ripping the pages out of them for collage paper or to get the cardboard backs for a junk journals like some people would do. So the pages of my copy of Intro & Intermediate Algebra for College Students by Robert Blitzer are full of notes and the answers. Ink blots and doodling on the pages😂 My copy of Calculus by Stewart is barely readable on some pages because I wrote comments about the math problems so much
