Mathew Ngau Jau is a Malaysian artist who was declared Living National Heritage by the Malaysian Government for his work on revitalizing the sapeh, the traditional four-stringed instrument from Borneo. Today, he is considered the preeminent authority on the instrument, one who has preserved the musical heritage of several generations and who seeks to give the sapeh the chance to prosper beyond the rainforest.
