I was just saying to myself the other day, I have not seen Shug ridding the uni in a while. Then I come home from the woods and there you are. The world is right again.
I learned to ride a uni when I was young. Took about a week of busted ankles, etc but once it clicked ... I have never seen a handbrake on a uni. Thanks for the entertainment!
+David Nutty Man....I too had bloody ankles fro hitting the fork. The brakes help on downhills...pedaling through and feathering the brake to control speed. Not really for stopping.
The first time I seen unicycles used for something other than entertainment/variety show was a few years ago at the MN Ironman. The 100 mile loop joined with the 65 mile loop at some point...and they they were...a group of unicycles. I couldn't believe it. I have not seen them there in the recent years. Riding unicycle on single track?? Personally haven't seen it, but on YT. Good for you!! Awesome!
Awesome! Thats all i can say! I have never seen unicycles used in that kind of way! Makes me wish i could have a go on one! You are an awesome bloke, keep it up! Thanks for sharing!
Awesome video! I follow a lot of mountain biking on youtube. I thought this was from one of those channels when I saw it in my subscriptions. I have been wanting to start mountain bike hammock camping. I found your channel while doing some research. I've learned a lot from you while being very entertained.
I got a unicycle (after some begging) for Christmas when I was nine. Had a hard, non-pneumatic tire. Took a bunch a bunch of falls, black marks on the hallway walls and compressed jewels, but by God I finally learned how to zip down the sidewalk on it. It is a workout.
+flysubcompact I had the same one. Hard tire. It was from Sears. I broke the axle in a week. My Dad then brought me to get a Schwinn. He thought I was an odd bird but his odd bird.
Yes! Great to see you riding. Still getting used to the KH26r. You make it look easy. Plus I've noticed its a lot harder to predict whats coming up with everything covered in leaves. Hope your knee gets better.
+shugemery I am a Surly bike fan... I really am kicking myself for not getting one of the "surly unicycle conundrum" a few years back. They quit making it and I feel that would make an amazing off road machine.
I take my hat off to you Shug that one wheeler looks like a workout, I ride a two wheeler and I know how hard off road riding is. Way to keep at it RYOR. Jim
I watched a doc on this a while ago where a lot of people meet I think in Texas and do unicycle off road stuff it was amazing the stuff they where doing I am surprised some had manhood left lol great vid
in the state just south of you they throw down a big bicycle event every year called RAGBRAI (that will easily google) there is a cyclist rides it every year on a unicycle. They have extra miles added to each day route to earn a merit badge of sorts . The section that went by here involved a river valley with 12 percent grades over 2 miles long. That might not sound taxing but there is 10 thousand cyclists of varying experience levels and the less wise tend to cause the several 15 plus bike wipeouts by rolling down the hills without braking. what goers up must come down.
Hey Shug......how did you like those meals you got up on the Gunflint? Didn't see or hear how you liked them. Great video! Looked tired....done give out....
I was just kidding around about biking it. We are researching the Superior Trail area to backpack for next year. Black Hills, SD is also on next years list. Thanks! Bob
Hey Shug! Special request! Could you hang your AMOK hammock up and then see if your Cuben Fiber Winter Palace will go over it without any modifications? Would love to know if it would work. Thanks a lot if you can.
Ha! interesting. I ride a Carve 29'er (yes, using both wheels ;-) How does the 29 wheel work out vs say a 24 wheel? In the MTB the 29'er is heavier and smoother, and often more stable on obstacles. The 26'er is lighter and more agile, but hangs up on roots and rocks at low speeds.
Haven't ridden one of those since Jr High. Any suggestions on a starter one for the ahem, larger individual (275 but coming down) that won't break the bank? I unfortunately also have rather unusual measurements. It's not often a guy 6'2" tall has to buy 30" inseam pants..
Hey Shug! I usually watch your hammock videos but I've got a question about unicycles today and thought of you right away. My about to be 15 year old son wants one for his birthday and I'm not sure what size wheel to get him. He's almost 6" and weighs about 115lbs. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
Woo buddy, nice ride, Shug. I sure want a 29er, but I don't dig disc brakes...too fussy, and now KH29er comes standard w disc. My KH24 has no brake, and I'd add the Magura rim brakes but they're $160 new w proper hardware. Ugh! 🐍 seriously, on the 29 for the type riding you do, which is Ike I do, handlebars? You like? Thx
+shugemery Thanks, Shug. Okay, I'll get the handlebars & brakes, too. Only those who muni know what a lung-buster those singletracks are, even the downhills. You're in great shape. Did you see, btw, that Terry Unigeezer is doing 200 miles in 24 hrs in January for his 60th bday?! OMG! 🙈
Impressive skills, although I'm not sure how you planned to improve your knee doing this, unless you had a crafty game plan to try to land on your noggin.
+panzerabwerkanone Ha! I knew it was you give me back my wheel thief! ...well at least give back the seat. I can learn to live with one wheel but without a seat.....farting is just not the same.
What??? The Lord of Lollygag breaking a sweat (and possible other things)? Say it aint so. Looks like fun Shug, but in the words of me sainted mother "you're gonna break something" :)
That looks too much like getting beat up. I do enjoy your vids though. You all should have been having some nice aural displays in the night sky the past week or so up there. you ought to consider shooting some of them with time lapse.
I was just saying to myself the other day, I have not seen Shug ridding the uni in a while. Then I come home from the woods and there you are. The world is right again.
+EconoChallenge It has been a while. My knee just did not like it for a while other than stage riding.
I learned to ride a uni when I was young. Took about a week of busted ankles, etc but once it clicked ... I have never seen a handbrake on a uni. Thanks for the entertainment!

Thanks for posting.
+Adam Craig It is fairly popular in the MUni sub-culture. Thankee
Awesome! Thats all i can say! I have never seen unicycles used in that kind of way! Makes me wish i could have a go on one! You are an awesome bloke, keep it up! Thanks for sharing!
+coolerking1984 It is quite popular these days. Crazy what the youth do on unicycles currently. Makes my jaw drop.
That looks so fun! Enjoyed the video as usual. Whooo buddy!
+Brian Longenecker A strange fun. More of a challenge......at this age.
Good to see you out on the unicycle again...missed those type of videos.....Take care, Bluefin.
+mustang774 Thankee Bluefin and take care.
Mighty fine to see ya back on one wheel! Liked the tree cam shots and the properly tricked out helmet ;-)
+RallohE That Sticker improves my groove.....
Great video. Thank you for sharing.

Yep, Sears catalog gift. Mom always hit the Sears catalog at the end of summer and just prior to Christmas. Hadn't thought of that in decades.
Lil unicycle action with Jerusalem Ridge. Love it!!
+lckeeper1 Layed that Jerusalem last night real quick. Woke my wife!
Wooooo Buddy! Looks like great fun.
+zoo It is strange fun for sure. Quite a workout!
Love the work he puts into these videos. I can just imagine the time it takes to set up all these shots, especially at 1:37
+Michael Herring Hey...it gives me a break from pedaling!
For the life of me I do not know how you do that......but I did enjoy watching .... nice video. Thanks
+RS Marett Thankee.
Yes! Great to see you riding. Still getting used to the KH26r. You make it look easy. Plus I've noticed its a lot harder to predict whats coming up with everything covered in leaves. Hope your knee gets better.

+Aaron Dixon (Adventure Dad) I appreciate it Aaron
+shugemery I am a Surly bike fan... I really am kicking myself for not getting one of the "surly unicycle conundrum" a few years back. They quit making it and I feel that would make an amazing off road machine.
I love to see you do this! Nice!!
+steinwaygoat Good to be able too!

+TheLicewine Ouch! I've been lucky so far.
I take my hat off to you Shug that one wheeler looks like a workout, I ride a two wheeler and I know how hard off road riding is. Way to keep at it RYOR. Jim
+22hornet reed It gets the heart pumping and lungs burning for sure.
Superb! As RAF pilots would say ;p
Plus editing, yeeeyyy!!! Splendid as usual, Sir Shug :p
+mirogster Pip Pip and Tally-Ho!
I didnt even know they made offroad unicycle. Thats awsome
+b williams It is a small but growing sport.
I remember my old uncle saying if at first you don't succeed f... it. Seems like good advice.
+ManicheanWarrior Fall, fall, fall, fail, fun, flail, and you shall persavere me Mom said.
that unicycle might help get your knee back in shape Shugs, but what about the plums? They must take a hammering!
+GV-Reviews They are tucked away and scared the whole ride....
I watched a doc on this a while ago where a lot of people meet I think in Texas and do unicycle off road stuff it was amazing the stuff they where doing I am surprised some had manhood left lol
great vid
+Mossy Bark Acually worse on the knees than the nads!
+shugemery lol
I would probably hurt myself just walking that trail! :(
Crazy set of skillz you got there bud 👍
+Tony Eden They seem quite normal to me. Thankee!
Hahaha..........juggling tight rope unicycle........expert hiker and hammock hanger.......anything I missed ? 👍
You are officially a bad-arse roller! You sure know how to fall correctly :p Heck with the knee, my prostate was having sympathy pains!
+Don Milligan My knee is angry today.
in the state just south of you they throw down a big bicycle event every year called RAGBRAI (that will easily google) there is a cyclist rides it every year on a unicycle. +Randy J Oh yeah...in Iowa. Those long grades that seem not steep Ifind the hardest.
Insane...but that's just Shug!
Hey Shug......how did you like those meals you got up on the Gunflint? Didn't see or hear how you liked them. Great video! Looked tired....done give out....
+AndroidM1980 I really liked them. Ordered more. Delectable!
Maybe you can unicycle the Superior Trail. Great Video from Shug!
+uptrail71 No sir....no bikes and such allowed. Feet only.
I was just kidding around about biking it. We are researching the Superior Trail area to backpack for next year. Black Hills, SD is also on next years list. Thanks! Bob
+uptrail71 Believe me...I woulda if I coulda......
that looks difficult and fun, great vid, not sure if you were trying to fix a knee or damage another one :)
+Tac Blades Testing the knee. It is angry today.
Stupid question: Do you ever see other unicyclers out there on the off road trail?
+Kakabekakev I never do.
Hey Shug! Special request! Could you hang your AMOK hammock up and then see if your Cuben Fiber Winter Palace will go over it without any modifications? Would love to know if it would work. Thanks a lot if you can.
+Alex Pendragon Oh, and can you do it on your unicycle while juggling three other hammocks?
+Alex Pendragon I dont have the Winter Palace.....mine are regular size. A tarp needs 10 feet wide width minimum for the Amok.
Ha! interesting.
+xx8xx the 24 is a bit better off-road but do love getting the 29 out on trails. Further to fall!
Haven't ridden one of those since Jr High. Any suggestions on a starter one for the ahem, larger individual (275 but coming down) that won't break the bank? I unfortunately also have rather unusual measurements. It's not often a guy 6'2" tall has to buy 30" inseam pants..

A 20" is good for stage and tricks. A 24" is great for over-all and street riding.

+Alfonso Casillas Crazy Fun!
Nice Vid shug. Maybe you can take it backpacking?
+Joe Magaro I thought about that. ....I think I'll just pleasure ride.
Woo buddy, nice ride, Shug. I sure want a 29er, but I don't dig disc brakes...too fussy, and now KH29er comes standard w disc. My KH24 has no brake, and I'd add the Magura rim brakes but they're $160 new w proper hardware. Ugh! 🐍 seriously, on the 29 for the type riding you do, which is

+coolkayaker1 I like my Magura brakes and I do like the handle bar. Brakes don't come cheap.

+coolkayaker1 He is a uni-monster for sure. Really into it. Big time.
You'll get a little more grip and cushion if you convert that tire to tubeless. It's pretty easy.
+this fall May try one someday for sure.
Impressive skills, although I'm not sure how you planned to improve your knee doing this, unless you had a crafty game plan to try to land on your noggin.
+M00nsplitter Well....test and see how the knee does. It did good. My buttcheeks are on fire today though.
Hey Shug someone stole half of your bicycle! I say we go get the sorry SOB!
+panzerabwerkanone No.....I took half of theirs!
+panzerabwerkanone Ha! I knew it was you give me back my wheel thief! ...well at least give back the seat. I can learn to live with one wheel but without a seat.....farting is just not the same.
Do they make unicycles with switchable gears, like a 10 speed?
+li1ricky They do make a hub you can add to get a second fast gear......krisholm.com/en/gear/component/kh-schlumpf
why is Shug so damn unique hahaha
+DreamBig vake 'cause I ride a unicycle maybe.......
What??? The Lord of Lollygag breaking a sweat (and possible other things)? Say it aint so. Looks like fun Shug, but in the words of me sainted mother "you're gonna break something" :)
+beachcomber52 Not sure what I was thinking....;-)
Hope the knee improves and behaves +shugemery
+Richard Thompson It is a moody knee! Thankee.
That looks too much like getting beat up. I do enjoy your vids though. You all should have been having some nice aural displays in the night sky the past week or so up there. you ought to consider shooting some of them with time lapse.
+hardrockcharlie1 Have not seen the Northern lights down here in the Cities. If I were out backpacking I would give it a go.
Do u like 29 in unicycle for off road the best?
I prefer my 24" for more serious off road. The 29 is a good hybrid and fun on and off road.
All clear in sector 7
+Gary Thompson All secure
+shugemery my mistake but I'm very glad to hear it. :)
they are a lot easier if you could add another wheel... :)
+ZiggZagg11 I like odd numbers. A trike is next for me.
+shugemery you sure are a odd one... :)
Man I have enough trouble with two wheels
+dalton vickers I too do.
I think your middle name may be "Fun".
+CampfireTalk Actually my middle name is Frivolity. :-)
Can't help but thinking of you Shug watching this fellow clown : ruclips.net/video/SlyoeMhuoeE/видео.html
