    I love that format! Those „real life examples“ are the best!! And being able to hear you say it slowly AND in real time is just perfect, great idea! Please more of that and also thank you sooooo much for making those videos!!!

    Thanks so much for doing a video showing normally spoken Finnish!! There are already lots of courses that only teach using slow kirjakieli so it’s definitely great to have some lessons in REAL Finnish!!

    This is great. The real life examples and some more of the puhekieli are much appreciated! And nearly nowhere to be found online in this format. Would definitely like to see/hear it again :) Awesome.

    Very nice video with some really good examples as well :) I'm still getting used to the shorter puhekieli forms of verbs and this provides some clear uses of common verbs in context :)

    I wonder if some time in the future Kat will tell something of the ubiquitous expression "no ni" ("no niin"). With those two little words you can express a large variety of feelings. It just depends on how you stress those two words … :D

    Another word for "ehkä" I find myself using a lot is the word "vissiin/vissii". This is used more in the context of assuming something (especially when answering a question). However, most of the time it is basically the word "probably". I believe it is a quite informal word but used a lot in my dialect at least.

    • @timomastosalo
      @timomastosalo 5 лет назад +1

      The we are in the series:
      vissii(n)
      = varmaa(n)
      ... which is close to maybe, perhaps.

    Why change normal whey of asking Ymmärrätkö to Ymmärsitsä ? Word not become chorter or easily to say. I understand then minä becomes mä or minulla on - mulla or olen - oon but that case is strange. Or I don't see a real reson?

    • @KatChatsFinnish
      @KatChatsFinnish  5 лет назад +1

      Do you understand = Ymmärrätkö SINÄ (emphasis on you) -> ymmärrsitsä = Ymmärsitkö sinä (just smashes the sinä to the end of the word)

    Sometimes I wonder about word order. If I want to say someting like "Perhas he's really young." should it be "Hän on ehkä tosi nuori." or should it be "Ehkä hän on tosi nuori." or are both fine?

    what is "yhtään" means?? . It seems not included in the english translation.

    • @KatChatsFinnish
      @KatChatsFinnish  4 года назад

      It usually translates to "any" but depending on the sentence it can be a bit tricky to translate -> here's some examples: hinative.com/en-US/questions/2407245

      I'm not sure exact what answers you are looking for since all those questions are open ended. for example you can say:
      1. Tulen kaupasta
      2. Tulen kohta
      3. Tulen Helsingistä
      4. Menen Turkuun
      5. Menen kauppaan
      6. Menen Ruotsiin
      7. Menen rannalle
      8. Käyn ravintolassa
      Like you can answer them all in a million different ways!

    Why is written and spoken Finnish different?

    • @jmtikka
      @jmtikka 6 лет назад +1

      The Finnish language has quite a high degree of diglossia where the high variant is the official (written) language and the low variant is the spoken vernacular. Actually there is a language continuum between these two forms and a single speaker can adapt their speech to match the situation. The spoken language of different areas of Finland usually has features from the original dialect of that area so there is not a single version of the spoken language but there are local varieties. Also people of different age tend to use different versions of spoken language.
      No one actually speaks the formal language in their everyday life except in some formal situations. There are some exceptions but those people are considered weird. Finnish speakers instinctively know the level of formality that is suitable in each situation. That is certainly not expected from a language learner.
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diglossia
