The vampires in Blade are just like people. Not super evil, with some exceptions. They don't want to "take over" because there would be no point. They'd be starting a war and they have a big glaring weakness. Most importantly, the vampires in this movie never seemed to be hurting for anything. They were well off, plenty of blood (enough to waste at a club), and they control select humans directly. They seem to already be in charge they just aren't really loud about it, which is why they didn't like Deacon Frost.

Yeah, it'd be like the dumbass bad guys in Vin Diesel's "XXX." The guys were ex-Soviet special forces and ruled the underworld in Prague, lived in an actual freaking castle and had birthday parties where Rammstein played live for them. And then they decided to shoot bio-weapon missiles at several major cities including Prague because why not. And anarchy or something. When you make 80's cartoon villains look smart in comparison, you're doing it wrong.

Pretty much yes. If they tried to take over, they would be outing themselves, and then the humans would wage war against them, and that humans can Wage War 24 hours a day, but the vampire is going to only Wage War at night. This way, they can do what they do in secret, and a mess of the fortune they want, and do what they want when they want.

@@reynaldolorenzo8409 While I concur about the rating being unnecessary for darkness, there's still a violence level, blood level, and dark humor level appropriate for a vampire action movie. Based off of the first film, a new Blade should be closer to Deadpool and Logan than Infinity War and Falcon and The Winter Soldier. For this particular genre an R rating would give a lot more freedom. The Batman was superb, but didn't actually need an R rating to get its point across. By contrast as funny and enjoyable as they are the Venom films are a story about an alien that likes eating human brains that has heads getting bitten off with no blood. It's a stretch.
Marvel has always had rather dark themes and plot points. I mean Spider-Man's story starts with a fifteen year old getting his own uncle shot to death via his own inaction.

Snipes was very much against that line, even though he inspired its inclusion. He used the phrase in reference to some bureaucratic/legal wrangling in the presence of another producer (important to note that this was one of the first big productions of Amen Ra films, Snipes' firm, and that Wesley had a lot of control here (and thank God for that)). The producer instantly wanted to use it in the movie, but Snipes was like, "That's just something I say. It's not dialogue". Still, Wes relented, and the line is as unique and iconic as this iteration of Blade himself, so it all turned out well.

Blade is technically what's called a "Dhampir". A Dhampir is a human-vampire mix who typically has some traits of both species. Interesting theory! Although you have to get kinda specific in talking "vampire" lore, as there's a lot of varieties, and sometimes several even within the same region and time period.
A notable consistency is that a number of classic vampire "weaknesses" are things we now know to be naturally anti-microbial (eg. garlic, silver, etc.). It makes sense, though, that even people who didn't have a concept of "germ theory" would observe that certain materials seemed to discourage infection and thus consider them to be "holy", if "health" is regarded as the "Godly" state and lack of it an indication of an unholy influence.

This movie gets ignored but it really was huge for Marvel and paved the way for X-Men and the MCU. All three films are watchable even if quality does decline. DC had been consistently pumping out movies since the '70s while Marvel struggled with bankruptcies. You get a lot of DC "That's a comic book character?" movies in the '80s and early '90s, but this is really where it all starts for Marvel.

    • @bloodnchocolate

I'd agree with everything except for the fact that Blade 2 is clearly the better movie of the three.

    • @Mauther
      @Mauther 2 года назад +3

Because of those bankruptcies, Marvel had sold off the movie rights of all their "big" names. Spiderman, X-Men, The Hulk, Fantastic Four and all of their associates had been licensed of to "real" movie studios like Fox, Paramount, Sony. So when it was time for Marvel Studios to launch Blade was actually produced by New Line Cinema. New Line had gone through a bit of a rough patch in the late 90's, and this was also pre Lord of the Rings, so Marvel was able to leverage a significant amount of control over the production. Among the ideas that Marvel successfully shot down were making Blade white and making the movie a parody. Marvel and David Goyer pushed for the serious, dark, and violent version that was eventual chosen and the result was the first Marvel film to clear $100 million box office.
Under the previous Marvel Entertainment title they're releases were not nearly so profitable. There's the infamous Howard the Duck which lost about $5 million. Punisher which might have made money if it had been given more than a token theatrical run. Captain America which was never actually released in the US and Roger Corman's Fantastic Four which was never even intended to be released. The financial success of Blade confirmed for Marvel that there was real money to be made off their properties while the success of the X-Men made Marvel realize that sharing these profits with other companies was a waste, so they began plotting the return of licensed characters and the development of sole ownership films.
Long story short, Blade got the ball rolling. It's not directly responsible for the MCU but without Blade, it's unlikely we'd have the MCU as we know it today.

I'm sure someone has already said it, but there's a deleted scene that solves the "but they won't have any food after they take over" flaw in their plan: Frost has been experimenting with literally keeping humans on ice, as comatose blood donors.
Most versions of the vampire myth seem to include some explanation of why they don't take over completely (and openly). My favorite is from Charles Stross' novels: Vampires live for thousands of years, and are borderline invincible when awake ... but have to sleep during the day, and die when exposed to sunlight. They know that if human society ever learned that vampires were REAL, every village would require every citizen to present for rollcall in the town square at high noon -- in other words, as powerful as they are, vampires would almost immediately go extinct.
Because of this, "The first rule of vampire club is: _Vampires don't exist._ " Whenever one elder vampire accidentally encounters another, their immediate thought is, "Dufuq?! If I could find you, then HUMANS could find you. You clearly need to die, for the safety of our entire species." Kinda discourages large vampire alliances.

To answer your question about if turning into a vampire means you're going to be evil, what it actually is the thirst is like the strongest addiction you can ever have. The blood thirst/lust is like being so dehydrated and hungry that feeding becomes all you'll ever focus on and will do anything to quench, so they lose all morality until you feed. As Blade's mom said "Sooner or later the thirst always wins." And is why Blade takes his serum to satisfy and stifle his thirst. The feeding of blood is so good to vampires that finally feeding after not feeding for so long feels almost orgasmic so y'all were correct to say that Blade feeding on the Dr was like their sex scene.

This is one of my favorite comic book movies, because its campy like classic comics but also delightfully bloody, also Wesley Snipes is just plain fun. It was definitely one of the early successful comic book movies that doesn't get nearly the credit it deserves. As to the garlic and silver being good against vampires, Vampirism like Lycanthropy are sometimes considered diseases or infections and both silver and the allicin in garlic have strong antibiotic properties and thus kill creatures animated by the infection. Its a fun overlay of science, alchemy, and magical belief overlapping with truth. Vampires don't take direct control over the world because there needs to be a balance to ensure there is enough food to go around and they control things behind the scenes by investing and buying politicians. That and if they'd reveal themselves, instead of a handful of people hunting them, they would have armies hunting them. They can deal with 5 people better than 5 million.

The most unrealistic part is not that the vampires don't take over, but that they've managed to control their population well enough that the secret of their existence has been kept. The funniest part of conspiracy theories is always the similar assumption that huge numbers of people could maintain total opsec for an extended period, even if they wanted to do so. Billion-dollar movies can barely keep their scripts under wraps for a time-frame measured in months. Hell, top-secret intelligence documents from top-flight agencies get left in taxis or on public transport on a concerningly-regular basis, and nobody can seem to find a way to get an entire staff to stop responding to obvious spearfishing emails.
Three people can keep a secret if two of them are dead, and they often can't do it for long even then.

In most vampire stories, including this one, what causes people to become evil is that they have to drink human blood to survive. This means you have to kill people. They also gain powers, when they become a vampire. So they are basically immortal, with super powers, and they have to kill to survive. This is what turns people evil. And yes, since they can't survive during the day, it's impossible to take over. The reason Blade is a day walker is because of how he was infected, while he was still in his mothers womb.

Blade made the money that turned Marvel around, without Blade being a hit, the publisher would've gone bankrupt before the sequel was even thought of.
The lore varies from which universe & storyteller, some just being bitten turns you, other's its drinking their blood, & sometimes even both, pure bloods would be what Blade became if he had been delivered later than he was, as it would've needed longer to change him fully (think premature babies type).

Despite many logical shortcomings (e.g. Blade's leniency towards Quinn. Or the fact that Frost's sunblocker somehow protects the inside of his eyes and mouth), the movie was quite good at showing, what it wanted to show. And it was basically the first R-rated superhero movie.

@@bwestacado9643 Well between the first 2 movies it might be more a question of personal taste, I'll give you that. I personally didn't like it for the most part (liked the Novak Character, tho). But I would agree that there's no question about the quality, or lack thereof, of Blade Trinity.

@@docdamnij Blade Trinity made me sad at how bad it was. It was the 1st Marvel movie I actually hated. Hulk with Eric Bana was another one lol. It could have been worse, Goyer wanted the 3rd one set like a thousands years into the future. He settle on this shit show though

the greatest trick is to convince the world the devil doesnt exist. The vampires already control most of everything and have their own world, so there is no point in exposing themselves to human society. You should check out the other Blade movies and also check out the movie "Daybreakers" (2010) its a movie where vampires actually did take over the world and there are few humans left.

One early vampire myth is that Judas (after he hanged himself) was cursed to be the first vampire and the reaction to silver was based on his receipt of the 30 pieces of silver.

Very happy that you enjoyed the movie! I'm definitely excited to watch the whole thing next week. :)
I watched this as a youngster. Great watch back then! I'm sure that I'll laugh at some of the scenes but I'm hoping that it holds up. We'll see! :)
I'm sorry, I'm unable to answer your question right now but maybe after I watch the movie I'll be more able to.

to the point of "what would the vampires eat after the blood god comes", there is a deleted scene where they were grabbing people off the streets, hanging them in... basically large body bags, and hooking them to IV's to draw their blood. The idea was that they could keep the people alive for years slowly draining them of blood. No more need to hunt, just a human farm.

Man I dunno how to say this without sounding irony poisoned but I genuinely loved how she asked about Blade Runner. I wish more people were less afraid of asking questions, maybe that way we'd have less willfully ignorant people. There's no dumb questions, only inadequate answers.
