This Is Why I Ride: Beautiful C&O Canal Trail Ride | DAY 1

- I'm back on the C&O Trail. It's a beautiful trail that runs alongside the historic Chesapeake and Ohio Canal from Cumberland MD to Washington DC. The trail has free hiker/biker campsites every 5-6 miles, historic canal locks, and old lock houses. One of the best times to ride is in the spring when everything is fresh and green. It's like riding through a green tunnel. Follow along and see my ride.

Thomas, you have captured the essence of why many of us ride our bikes. The fresh air, the freedom, nature, making new friends, and so much more. Thanks for taking the time to create these videos and share them with us.
Thank you so much for encouraging words 😊
Super fun episode! Those geese didn't know how much you love birds, or they would have stopped and introduced themselves! Thanks for all you do to take us along! Peace & Prayers.
I'm sure you're right, those geese had no idea who they've dealing with 🤣 Thank you for watching and have a great week!
Love your ever present positive attitude.
Thank you glad to hear it, much appreciated 😊
Nice ride.Lots of wildlife and other obstacles in the trail this day. Glad the geese didn't decided to attack! 😂 Fun to see the locks. That tunnel section and the cliffy channel area was really cool. Great trip. Have a nice day.
It's a beautiful trail one of those most known biking trails in the US. I'm glad that those geese didn't attack me but the other guy got hit. One of the geese flew up and hit him with wings, lol but he was okay. Thanks for watching and have a great week.
Catching an Amtrak this Saturday to bike camp the GAP. And C&O ,,,, can’t wait! Thanks for sharing!!!
Awesome! You're gonna love it 👍😎
Watching your videos makes me want to ride my bike more. Thanks for taking us along!
Glad to hear it! Thank you 😊
This trail looks amazing! Thank you for taking us with you so that we can armchair travel and explore. We love your bike rides! 🙂 The tunnel would have been creepy! Waiting to see zombies pop out lol.
I'm glad you guys are following along. Love my rides and it's double fun when I share it with others 😀
Hello from Naples, Florida. Very nice trail, for sure. Love the nature views. Thanks for sharing with us, have a great week 👍 💯 ❤
Thank you and have a great week as well. 😊
You're getting me stoked for my own trip in a couple of weeks. Will be doing the GAP and C&O in the other direction.
I've done it the other direction three times before but this way is an easier downhill ride.
Gran recorrido
Thank you!
Was planning on the OTET this fall, but again, GAP/C&O is always on my mind. That area just past Little Orleans is the Western Maryland Rail Trail. Good option on a rainy day since it’s paved. Hope you had a great trip.
GAP/C&O is always in my mind. I think this was my fourth time riding it, such a great trail. I'm gonna ride the OTET at the end of July. I'm gonna pm you about it.
Very nice! Tunnel was cool. Awesome day 1!
Thanks. Enjoyed the ride
Looks like a great trail but man we thought you were gonna wipe out in that mud. Have a nice week ahead and travel safe
C&O trail has some muddier sections near Cumberland but most of the time it's a nice ride.
Good stuff as always!
It was a beautiful ride, thank you
This was one of my favorite videos of yours so far! Very enjoyable.
Glad you enjoyed it! 😊
Nice trail ride. Hope you had a great Memorial Day.
I did, thanks. Hope you had as well.
Awesome Thomas! Hope it doesn't get too humid for you but then again your from Florida, lol
Florida was already hot in the upper 90s last week but my ride was perfect in the 70s. Thanks and have a great week!
At 12:54 was a ramp to/from the paved Western Md Rail Trail that runs pretty much parallel to the C&O. There are just a few crossover opportunities between mp 141 Little Orleans mp 124 Hancock and mp 114.5 Big Springs near Ft Frederick...have to watch asphalt push-ups from tree roots.
I rode the Western MD trail the next day about 10 miles, started from Hancock
Thomas, thanks for taking us along. What was the detour and how long was it?
Thanks. The detour was just a section where they were working on maybe a quarter of a mile.
Like 13 👍 💯 ❤
Thanks
Nice that you posted a lot of towpath riding views.
I still have to put together the second part of the video from Hancock to Washington DC. Such a beautiful trail.
